Extra Deep Cranking Rod
If you like Gary Dobyn's work, perhaps take a look at the Fury Line. The 7'6" Med Hvy or the 7'9" Med Hvy Swimbait could be in your wheel house. A-Jay

Having trouble fishing jigs
Well Said Catt. "Feeling a worm/jig bite requires keeping a certain amount of tension on your line while at the same time keeping a certain amount of slackness in your line. To the average angler this makes no sense at all but the worm/jig angler it makes total sense." Took me a while to understand what the above underlined passage really meant and even longer to be able to create it with rod & reel in hand, but for me it is the very essences of fishing not only jigs but most any bottom contact bait. Cool ~ so is it safe to assume that dead sticking a Senko usually isn't your first presentation ? A-Jay

Having trouble fishing jigs
Kindly tell us this; which baits &/or presentations do you feel most confident in and why ? This may help the BR jig fishing membership to formulate a way for you to get better. A no response here would indicate that you're no longer interested in learning. We'll be standing by. A-Jay

Purchasing my first Tracker....opinions welcomed!
Since you'll be fishing mainly by myself, occasionally a 2nd and very rarely 3 people, I'd still seriously consider it. How much fishing do you do from the stern ? May be too good a ride to pass up for the possibility of a rare fishing partner. A-Jay

Jig Skirts!
When fishing anything with a skirt, after a while you figure out what you like. Also making you your own is just plain cheap and well beyond easy. If I can do it - well let's just leave it at that. Skirts for Buzzbaits, Spinnerbaits, more recently chatterbaits, of course jigs are all now done in "A-Jay's Custom Bait & Tackle Shop" - For the mostly clear waters up here, my chatterbait & jig skirts are real basic. They almost always start with a base of brown & or green pumpkin or Black & Blue After that there may be a little lighter shade of those added, perhaps a hint of Barbwire silicone skirting material in watermelon, light pumpkin red or rusty Craw. Spinnerbaits & buzzbaits skirts are even more basic - White, Chartreuse, or White & Chartreuse - last season I played around with my version of "Sexy Shad" ~ turns out I need to change the name of that one to #shreddedbypike. Purchasing my first Tracker....opinions welcomed!
I did read that you have checked out the Lund Line however when I was shopping and looking at the boats at the outdoor shows this winter I was impressed with the Lund Fury XL SS. http://www.lundboats.com/boat-models/1625-fury-xl/ For a 16 footer it seemed to offer quite a bit. It was laid out nicely and for the $$$ presented a very attractive boat, motor & trailer package. A-Jay

Low stretch/low memory mono?
Stumbled across an old spool and tried it. Found it to be very mono-like. Great knot & abrasion strength, Solid diameter to strength ratio and perhaps a little less stretch especially in the 17 lb and up. Bulk spools were very reasonably priced - so I change it Often, which for me, is the only way to go with mono. Used it exclusively in Mexico - worked well. A-Jay
