  1. We would row the boat to a submerged iland(rocks) and row off it till the weeds disappeared then anchor and cast towards the Iland. It's slow fishing but can be very productive. The split shot rigged worm works great in moving water were the backwash is. Or where the water slows down from the main stream. We have large lakes that were dammed rivers that still have running current in the middle. The drop offs on the sides can be very productive. We used 6" black creme straight worms. Back in 1973.
  2. When this rig first came out I was taught to take a #2 snelled eagle hook and use the largest sewing needle I ever seen. We folded the snelled hook leader in half. Shoved it thru the eye of the needle to the knot/hook. Now we entered the plastic worm at the lump. Thread it in the center holding the hook and let the needle pull the leader out with the eye. When the leader is out we pull the stem of the hook into the worms lump. Only half of the turn of the hook sticks out. Then we place the split shot weight on the loop on the leader of the hook above the knot. It stays secure. Old school. I see the bait threaders but never used one yet. How do you guys do it?
  3. I am stubborn when a lure doesn't work. I try it often for a year then rotate it out. After a while it goes back in my box. After a few more tries and still nothing. It may become a Christmas ornament. Lol
  4. Heavier line might help. I would use a Wal-Mart steel leader. The wire is very thin. If your catch of bass decreases it's the wire. The big 29"/32" chain pickerel do such a violent strike there the great whites of the freshwater. Great Northern Pike and Muskies even bite people in the water.(You tube or history channel.) Be careful. The last pickerel I caught inhaled my crankbait. While trying to remove it, it's snapping at me. Awesome fish to catch but a nasty additude. I had a very large 30" fat chain pickerel follow my spinnerbait to shore. It came out of the water on the rocks parallel to the shoreline and ripped off my spinnerbait as I lifted it. I froze in shock. I didn't know there's a drainage pipe under me below the water level. The beavers plug it. He ambushes everything.
  5. How many use the clear sealer for there cork handles? I just picked up two bottles of U-40 cork seal. In the past I was leaving the clear wrap on the handles as long as possible. So how many seal the cork? Good or bad?
  6. Doesn't matter as long as I'm fishing.
  7. Prep for winter. Clean your fireplace and woodstove chimneys. Don't forget to have your oil burner serviced. Don't forget to clean the intake filter on your hot air furnace. Clean your dryer vent hose too. Put seafoam stabilizer in all your power equipment. It will keep the gas fresh. Stock up on bird seed. Our feathered Freinds need to eat too. I stock up on corn for the deer. When there's three feet of snow cover for months it's hard on them. Plus the turkeys show up too. It's almost time for the humming birds and barn swallows to migrate. The summer went by so fast. Well we can still bass fish.
  8. Take the time to take a kid fishing. There's no feeling like putting something back to this awesome fun sport. Take all the neighborhood kids fishing. All the kids who hang out together have a great time fishing. A few dozen night crawlers and let the fun begin. My neighborhood kids are in there 40's now and still are thankful I took them fishing. They never forgot it. Get a kid interested in fishing. He won't have time for anything else. God bless, have a great weekend fishing. BB
  9. I had three rods show up in one pvc tube. They bent a triangle piece of cardboard the whole length of the tube to separate them.
  10. I used yo zuri hybrid copolymer line in 6# up to 10# on my spinning reels never a problem. Once you switch to a copolymer line you will like it way less stretch.
  11. Buy, build, shoot, reload, hunt it never ends. Welcome to the club
  12. If you go to the roadwarriors post he mentions he talks about line test. Sorry for the confusion.
  13. These new lines are so tough I can't break them. I was picking up 400lb machine parts by hand. I'm no light weight. The line cuts my skin before it breaks. The 6lb and 8lb Excalibur silver thread copolymer line is tough line. I never worry about line breaking. I carry a folding scissors in every tackle box now. Small. Fish n save has them. #165971. $1.19
  14. One spot deep in the woods the fish are very easily spooked. I can stand on a ledge above the water and see the whole pond. The black lines moving in the water are big bass on the other side. I can't walk that far with my back right now. I need to post pics and explain the places I fish at.
  15. I only take five setups, 4 spinning. 1 baitcaster. Topwater Crankbaits Spinnerbaits / inline spinners. Plastics, c-rig Jig (baitcaster)
  16. Jig Master A Start a whole new letter series? Or Jig Master PT109 (JFK)
  17. The Wal-Mart locking snap swivels I use on spinnerbaits, Carolina rigs. On the hooks with pre rigged plastics. My c-rig is 1/8oz. near the shoreline. The Mann's classic spinnerbaits and smaller spinnerbaits have eyelets. My crankbaits, topwater setups get the more expensive ball bearing locking snap swivels. Smoother movement is a factor. Plus I'm having a hard time tying knots now. Eye sight and arthritis is taking its toll.
  18. Grand Master Mike's bass catcher jig. One bite Mike's bite Siebert biter Bass cooker Bass jig hooker Bass hooked jig.
  19. That's the cost of one lunch. I have eaten the dollar menu many times to keep the cost down to buy fishing lures. In the past I sacrificed to fish in the early days.
  20. It's the excitement of the blow up's for me. If your not seeing it your presentation is wrong. One rip(1), two rip(2), three rip(3), pause. Don't go too fast.
  21. Hank Parker was killing smallies on the Mann's baby 1 crankbaits in browncraw in NH on lake Winnie?????? I bought one and was killing bass in ct.
  22. Walk the dog on top. But hold the rod tip down and reel. I call it "dive the dog". It runs erract under the water going side to side crazy. You can see the strike.
  23. Checkout brannans bass shop online. Great people in Texas the whole store fishes men and gals they know there baits. Looks like a bandit. But the strike king KVD square bill is close. There's two colors in this size.
  24. Prop baits 1-rip,2-rip,3-rip pause. Or reel it just fast enough to make the props churn. Slow reel, reel fast enough so the props churn. I live and breathe by the 1 2 3 pause.
