Some low hanging fruit here, and probably too obvious of pairings...but here's a few thoughts; If I could pick two anglers at the height of their professional careers from a similar era and pair them up against two greats from a slightly different era, etc., then have them fish off in a series of Championship Team events for all the marbles, I'd go: Bill Dance & Roland Martin vs. Rick Clunn & Larry Nixon vs. Kevin Vandam & Jacob Wheeler All 6 of these guys dominated their respective eras. As a different twist, pairing a couple somewhat obvious anglers with specialties in a boat for a day, just so I could sit back and be an observer and listen to them talk technique back and forth out on the water while fishing, I'd throw these pairings out there: Alfred Williams & Dean Rojas (frog fishing) ...sub - Ish Monroe Tommy Biffle & Denny Brauer (jig flipping) ...sub - Greg Hackney Charlie Campbell & Zell Rowland (topwater) Doug Hannon & Bill Murphy (big bass) The last two are not "pros," but...

Lol - getting very difficult to find any longer. May need to start looking for a replacement - or just go braid in that one instance.

This about sums it up. Pretty much the only two I need. In the rare instance I need excess abrasion resistance, I go TORAY.

Yep - I've stated that exact thing a number of times in here. Is there anywhere to see this test data online - studies or papers you could reference? Data you could send me via message or email? ...and not some quote from Berkley - lol. I ask seriously because I've researched this quite a bit myself (I'm even mentioned/linked in one of your article links), and all the data I've seen is contrary to the "fluoro stretches differently" claim like the Berkley quote. This includes SS curve comparisons between the two, at least in anything under about 40 lb test, when compared side by side. I'd love to see something contrary to what I already have to at least show some support for the other side of this coin. Thanks in advance!

Agree with Tom. Something isn't right here. This isn't a step or tunnel hull, right? Just a plain single (slight) v-hull bottom? Like a big fancy jon boat. I can understand current location because of the factory installed transducer plate, and subsequently the extra transducer bracket. I'm thinking you just don't have the adjustment correct on the new bracket yet. You'll need to adjust the transducer angle down some to make sure you get full clean contact with the water. Sometimes the transducer itself can caught turbulence if you have it too flat or slightly kicked up. So hard to tell from that picture alone. For others reference: bracket specifics

A picture would really help, but sounds like you’re still getting too much turbulence. You'll either have to lower the transducer further, likely by moving the mounting bracket down, or further away from the engine, to the next opening between strakes - or the other side of the engine.

I believe the ‘no braid’ comment is in regard to sub freezing temps and icing, and not an overall statement against braid. I avoid braid when I’m out and air temps are at or below freezing. The braid weave will allow water to cling to the line and start icing or freezing, rendering it useless. Mono isn’t near as bad, especially if you spray or wipe with silicone before using. Anything 35 deg and above though, braid is fair game.

Maybe, maybe not. The #101 was small spin size; #11 was standard size. There was a #1 Jumbo pork frog, as well as the #10 Big Daddy. Could be either of those last two. Another popular large piece of pork was the #800 Spring Lizard that was commonly used as a big jig trailer.

It’s simply become a mental thing in your head at this point. You're not missing bites. Ned rig has never been about feeling bites - unless you aren’t fishing it the way Ned intended. He fishes with $20 rods. You could argue the same thing with Charlie Brewer and Slider fishing. Same goes for wacky. Have you ever timed how long a bass will hold these baits and just swim around with them in their mouth? Oftentimes it’s 20, 30 or even 45 seconds or more. I’ve done the experiment - you should, too. It’s an eye opener. Get back out there and just go fishing. Try and play like a tournament angler during practice, and see if you can shake the bait out of a basses mouth when he bites, and get him to drop it. Don’t even try and set the hook. You’ll have a whole different mental outlook after you’re done ?

On a mushroom head jig (Ned style), but you already knew that coming from me. Have caught several nice bass on Roboworms fishing this way - they just don’t hold up after a few fish, but I restocked this fall ?

They’re $3.49 - buy one of each. If I had to pick only one, go ‘large.’ By design, it should work with most any weight. Doesn’t have to be a mojo weight, either. Works with nearly any sliding weight. Same with the threader, though you adjust that by number of strands threaded. I often just pull one or two from a spinnerbait or jig skirt to use instead of buying special.

In some instances, yes, as in less time overall, or as a smaller percentage of my overall fishing. But, just fishing them a little differently in other instances based on my research.

This is the year I’m finally going to focus on trying to catch quality bass over numbers. I’ve already been sent “a sign” that this is the right path for this year. Should be a big and interesting learning experience.

Just picked up a new Daiwa myself, but different model. Had the same gear ratio options though. For all-around spinning, go with the faster ratio. There is a noticeable difference.

Most swim jigs traditionally have a somewhat softer weedguard for better hookups since you are usually fishing/swimming them “around” cover and not flipping or pitching them right into the thick of it.

Yep. He mentioned a week or two back that he's only caught two of his double digit bass fishing in less than 10 ft of water. He has also mentioned that he doesn't fish structure/cover in the normal sense. It's why he removes the weed guard from his swim jigs - he doesn't need them. He simply puts the trolling motor down and starts looking for these fish out in open water. If you watch enough of his video snippets though, you can tell he isn't catching most of these fish deep - they are shallow but suspended over deeper water. That could be a genetic carryover or behavior from the FL gene influence. You mention associating 10 lb. northern bass as being unicorns, but you could make the argument that before JJ came along and sacked nearly 5 dozen DDs in two years, most people wouldn't have guessed that possible in said waters. Certainly we probably couldn't name a single other person in that region who has done even remotely similar. Only names like Butch Brown in CA come to mind on an equal/higher level in the recent past, at least that I'm aware of. He's tapped into a fish/fishery that few, if any people, even knew existed. John Hope's tracking kind of documented this possibility, but it took FFS to really prove it and provide a way to capitalize on it in any sense of an efficient way. Could that be duplicated in a pure northern strain fishery...even if we dropped the size from 10 lbs to, say, 8 pounds? Is there a BIG bass population in these northern strain fisheries that has gone completely overlooked because of this behavior tendency? My hunch is, 'no', but would love to see someone like him come north and be proven wrong.
