  1. Stocks, gold, F.C.O.J. (Trading Places reference), a house are better examples of an investment as you are aware. A boat isn't, as it is something that you can enjoy with your family, by yourself, or with a fishing partner. IMO, The boat you're looking at sounds like a reasonable option given your young family. And you'll have a better idea of what you'll want as your family grows and boating needs change.
  2. Sheep dogs on this thread and every where, be safe.... JB
  3. It's been spring pretty much all month and we NEED the rain. But on the other hand I'm glad I have to contend with all that ice and a set bass fishing season that some of you deal with. Water this past Saturday hit 59.2, air temp was 70....
  4. Dr. G and gulfcaptain, glad the weather held for the tourney and had an uneventful trip back home. I'm sure you've got tackle to put away and stuff to do, but care to comment on the fishing when time allows? Thx, JB
  5. You can barely see it...... It says "Goodyear" down its side.... Nice fish brgbassmaster!
  6. I also believe Road Warrior listed the golden rules for introducing young children to fishing. It doesn't hurt to bring a bucket so they can watch "their fish" while waiting for the next bite. It's a recipe for a life long fishing partner. My daughters are in their 20's and still ask to go fishing...
  7. A fat black Sharpie will take care of that soon to be light green braid, just another thing to keep handy. I just spooled up some Power Pro Hi Vis yellow today, so thanks buzzed bait for the heads up. Surprisingly, I've found Suffix braid holds its color (green) longer than Power Pro or Daiwa Samurai. Has anyone else found this to be true or found a brand of line that doesn't fade after a few fishing trips?
  8. warrior1, great idea to use those drywall corner angles to hang your spinner baits. Much more versatile than the commercial product. IMO, if you want to move them, obviously Velcro is the way to go. If you want a more permanent solution, the 3M double sided tape as mention by KDW96 and Bass newb is gonna be the ticket. It's what"s been securing my "Pro Stow Tackle Management System" in my boat since it was new. A heat gun or hair dryer will take care of removal...
  9. X2 on the Ika, which seems to have a little more action on the fall. Both are fun to throw, especially as we look forward to spring...
  10. Sounds like a great day in SoCal to be on the water contium, but it doesn't sound like you found any signs the spawn had take place. I like fisherrw's suggestions if you're going to be on the water today. But it's possible those bass were enjoying the warm water temperatures to fatten up on those shad as part of the prespawn. In conditions where they're bustin shad along the bank I'd maybe go with a lipless crank or a spinnerbait to "match the hatch". Unfortunately you weren't able to see the fish those shore anglers caught to determine what part of the spawn those fish were in... BTW, I was also on the water yesterday, 77 degree air temp which is why you post caught my attention. The water temp was 56.7 degrees on the Delta, and I did manage to put a few in the boat out of 2-4 feet of water. Fat, chunky, prespawn little guys. This was right before two sea lions showed up... Good fishing contium, and let us know how you did
  11. Holy smokes! Nothing like a well sharpened hook! But maybe confirm it in a fish's mouth
  12. In North Carolina the '60s, my dad would say all you need for bass was a split shot 2' above a rapala. Silver with either a black or silver back were his favorites. I'd just sit there in amazement watching him catch those largemouth on that rig. Of course I did the same thing when he worked a Jitterbug... I'm sure you'll continue to load the boat with bass no matter which species you're targeting. Good fishing
  13. I was surprised a jig wasn't mentioned, but good to have on when fishing Clear Lake's rock piles. Maybe an A-rig and a Hitch colored swimbait.
  14. HOIST-N-HOGS, out of curiosity, were those dead shad in the picture you posted from a river with access to the ocean or a lake?
  15. J._Bricker replied to MIbassin's topic in Fishing Reports
Like Dwight Hottle said, "Congratulations on your new personal best". Good story Mlbassin, it and sounds like you're in the right place and at the right time to maybe break your record again. As for the rash on her side, maybe someone at the local tackle shop can better answer your question. I don't think it will prevent her from spawning and passing on those big fish genetics. Good fishing
  16. I'm sorry for the loss of your brother to you and your family
  17. TxHawgs, my advice would be "run what ya brung" as we all have the most confidence in our best or favorite rods/reels. Not sure what circuit you plan on fishing or if you're fishing with a club. I know at one time the FLW limited co-anglers to five rods, and most clubs let bring as many as you want. Rod socks and reel covers can minimize damage and allow you to quickly identify a technique specific rod quickly. And one good thing about your better rod builders- they stand behind their product warranty. Good luck on tournament day
  18. I've wacked 'em when the chart said we shouldn't have and didn't when the the chart said we should have and vise versa. IMO I guess it can come down to how well you do in relation to the table and whether or not the fish want to cooperate
  19. Unfortunately RW, it's a national issue which every agency is forced to deal with and the reasons are varied. Without going into some of the reasons, I'd like to wish the city of Memphis well with their recruitment efforts
  20. As Bluebasser86 said.... Mend-it X2. Not only will it fix damaged plastics, it works really well on senkos which have a high salt content. Not too mention what combinations you can create with it. It definitely can save you some money
  21. Here she is, got her on a 7" Alan Cole swimbait in April..... All I could say to my buddy was "She's BIG, get the net"! Now if I can figure out how to properly align the picture...
  22. Glad you had a great time and enjoyed the opportunity to catch some of those Disney bass with your family. Was there on a business trip some years back and didn't do it, been regretting ever since...
  23. Snickers candy bars. Hey, my doctor says they're a healthy choice . Always bring jerky, but rarely eat it and water and sugarfree Red Bull. The flask with Mr.Walker is for when the boat's back on the trailer....
  24. Nice looking Ranger Cmiller, and looking at the pictures brought back fond memories of my 373V. Hope you have the same experience with that solid fishing platform. Only concern I'd like to say to keep an eye out for is I did break a leaf spring on my boat trailer an hour from the house on the way to go fishing. Good fishing
  25. Blood Knot, which is similar to Uni to Uni and is easy for me to tie. A drop of Krazy glue doesn't hurt.. Updated..Just broke off a good fish at the knot last week. Thanks everyone, using the Alberto now. Continued good fishing, JB
