  1. great idea. i hear those bps sticks are excellent for the price. make sure you handle a glass rod before you buy it (if youve never fished one). some people love them but the one i tried seemed a bit too heavy for a weight weenie like me.
  2. a well balanced rod reduces fatigue throughout the day. a well balanced rod may feel lighter than a rod that actually weighs less but is not balanced well. especially after a few hundred casts. IMO, get a decent "light weight" combo and you shouldnt have to worry about balance. the last rod i had that felt unbalanced was a $50 combo i bought in highschool. my rogue, st. croix and loomis rods balance well with my shimano reels: casting 7-7.5oz, spinning 9.5oz. ive never used a split grip, but i hear some of those are a little tip heavy. some people like that when dragging bottom baits.
  3. id put the 5.4:1 on the lightning rod for cranks. the 7:1 will make a good jig/plastics reel. like mentioned above, use more sensitive rods for bottom baits. id look at the st. croix avid series rods. check out the replacement policy.
  4. 1/4 bitsy bug (green craw) baby rage craw (grn pumpkin) 3" crazy legs chigger craw (black blue flake) 1/8-3/16oz tungsten worm weight - i peg it tight with an eagle claw bobber stop and it seems to stand straight on the bottom, great action/small profile 4" senko
  5. unfortunately (fortunately?), time and place occurs very often with senkos and some people never get more versatile than that.
  6. the baitmonkey took it easy on me at first. took many yrs to upgrade from $30 rods to $100 ones and from $100 rods to avids. i discovered this site a few yrs ago and have spent probably close to 3 or 4k on tackle and rods. add another 2k for kayaks with rudders (not blaming BR for this purchase).

sorry to deviate from the thread but i saw a good movie last night called "Precious". not a favorite movie but the mother is one of the most evil characters ive ever seen on the screen. .dsaavedra. - i think you will enjoy this one.
  8. i always recommend sony or samsung.
  9. i think it depends on the lure. with buzzbait no, with jig yes. a day that you cant pull a bass up with a jig or plastic is very rare.

  12. my last 6 or 7 pairs of shoes have been New Balance 574s. i switch up the colors to add some variety. when im walking in the woods, i wear Merrell Moab XCRs
  13. youre gonna love it. watch out for shallow rocks. kevlar does not like collisions. in the boundary waters you shouldnt have that problem!

today, right now, in no particular order: fargo big lebowski boogie nights no country for old men pulp fiction
  15. id get him a St. Croix Avid 6'8" M/XF rod and let him use the reel he has now. he can later buy a nice reel and have a great setup.
  16. id keep my bsr852. 7'1" mediumish-extra fast spinning rod. stradic because i dont know any better... reason is because i fish mostly bottom baits under 3/8oz. the only baits i dont like tossing on this rod are cranks.
  17. IMO if a family member feels disrespected if you dont call them "uncle" or "aunt" then that person doesnt know you very well. unless, of course, you really dont respect them.
  18. x2 i use a 6'9" ml/xf (soft tip) for drop shot, 6'8" m/xf for wacky/shakey head rigs. if i had to choose one rod to do all the above, id go with the Med/extra fast.
  19. this probably wont help but i use a bsr852 glx spinning rod for 1/4oz jigs with 3" trailers. this is my favorite set up and i actually prefer pitching on a spinning rod, flipping might be an issue however...
  20. soda - Coca-Cola hard drink - Johnnie Walker (non-red) beer - micro brew or import (too hard to choose fav) wine - cabernet (haven't found a fav yet, hope the search never ends) coffee - lavazza espresso
  21. i match rod power and line strength to the jig weight and cover being fished. i use: bsr852 glx/2500 stradic - 3/16-5/16oz jigs w/3" plastic trailers bcr803 glx/chronarch 51mg - 5/16-3/8oz jigs mbr844c glx/curado 201 - >5/16oz jigs like previously mentioned, i also like a high gear ratio for all bottom baits.
  22. so Part B could tell you if they are incapable of driving but how would you know that theyre high on marijuana? they could be exhausted, have an ear infection affecting equilibrium, or be messed up off of prescription drugs, right?
  23. YoZuri US i have not tried CXX yet, however.
  24. Tin- youre right, it would have to be a test that could tell you were under the influence at the time. that doesnt exist so i guess theres no way to tell... you cant really test for legal drugs either (painkillers) and those are pretty impairing.
