While don't try to match it EXACTLY, I do try to make it look like it's part of the jig, like a Falcon Craw or Bama Craw color for multi-color jigs. I fish a lot of clear water lakes, so I don't use the flashy colors as much. You'll find some people like contrasting colors better. I think it really depends on water clarity and the predominant forage species available. Crawfish species come in dozens of colors, so it pays to experiment with colors in your body of water.

I agree. They can get pretty creative to the point they're meaningless. There's a small local soft bait company in my area that lists the color names on their website, but no pics. So just what colors are "Swamp Juice" , "The G.O.A.T." , "Monkey Shine", and "Voodoo"? LOL "Neko" (pronounced Neck-O) is the Japanese word for "Cat", meaning the presentation is stealthy - like a cat. "Wacky" came about because when it first came out, it looked like somebody rigged it wrong...or "wacky" "Texas rig" came about because, supposedly, it was invented in Texas. There's no evidence of that, but the name stuck. "Tokyo" - same reason as "Texas"

Gamakatsu is coming out with Ball Rig hooks. I believe they're introducing them at ICAST. I happen to have some. They come in weedless and non-weedless versions. They use Jika rig weights you can swap out for any size you want.

Oh wow, I definitely didn't mean to imply that budget-friendly reels are somehow inferior. That never even crossed my mind when I made that post. What I was responding to was the idea presented in the video that reels that look similar and have interchangeable parts, and are sold under different brand names, are essentially the exact same reel with nothing more than a different logo and price tag. That's a pretty big oversimplification. Using that logic, you could argue that all red pickup trucks are identical because they all have four tires, a battery, and an engine. The fact that some parts may be shared across brands doesn't automatically mean the entire product is the same. There can be significant differences in materials, tolerances, quality control, engineering, component specifications, assembly processes, and manufacturer requirements—even when products appear similar on the surface. So my point wasn't about expensive versus budget reels. It was simply that "they all come from the same place, therefore they're all identical" is a much bigger leap than the video makes it seem.
