First Assessment of Mag-Touch Casting Rod
Agreed, everyone was jumping all over that guy and I just wanted to give him an honest answer, and a little history. I prefer cork myself, I do not even like it on the few salt water rods i have owned.

You may be the pillar of health with a wife and family at 63, but it's your own choice to be prepared or not. Just about every " Guru " on radio or tv preaches a similar way to do it and they are right. The theory is easy but the road isn't always smooth and sometimes it's just not possible to invest, but the crux of what they say is to" pay yourself first"(dollar cast averaging). In other words stick to your investment game plan before you purchase things of lesser importance. The Gurus may differ in investment vehicles but one has to find what they are comfortable with and to understand it. Nothing better than the 401 k especially if your employer is still matching 1 for 1. Where I come from, and my ethnic background is irrelevant, we are taught from the cradle to take care of ourselves, but I'm always there for my sister and her family. My wife will never have to worry and if I die before my mother I've made sure she will be comfortable if needed. Yea the 401 K's really did wonders for a lot of folks, the young rich power brokers made out Okay, not to mention that picture of integrity Madoff, i wouldn't trust any of those suits with my money, The old Italians taught us to take care of each other, as I did both my parents, my dad his and so on. It is an honor to take care of the people who got us where we are, We do not consider this to be a weakness in any way. This goes for my whole family. We all take care of ourselves and each other, i don;t freaking care about what particular group you are from, not everyone could grow up Italian, BTW; The men in my family all worked until they couldn't, not because they had to they were just built this way. Sure is sad that other folks don't know this sense of family

Thinkin', learnin', catchin'.
Thanks Tom: great thread, started by an intriguing post Depends on the day If I have a newbee in the boat; catch fish, numbers not size is the issue If the bite is strong: I am more likely to throw a lure I am learning, as i already know what I can catch them on When I am by myself, I usually am thinking PB time! When I am fishing with Bruce or anyone else, I have more enjoyment putting them on fish. Currently 4 of my friends have had PB's with me not fishing, only placing the boat. Now that I bought the Garmin 160 from Cart 7 , i am really trying to learn how to use a depth finder to find structure and cover on that structure. THIS IS MY NEW FOCUS CURRENTLY!

First Assessment of Mag-Touch Casting Rod
All the way back to the 70's there have been quality foam handles. The first I ever had was on the old ABU Red Conolons, lots of Diawas had them , lots of surf rods had them, foam really is not a new option. Since Magnetic and Centrifugal brakes work at different parts of the cast, I see many preferring one over the other. I prefer the six pin, 4 on , and 2 off.I leave it that way and depend heavily on the cast control knob to keep the spool right per different lure weight.

Jigs Vs Senko
I took the jig, having to choose. But these are 2 difrrent baits, 2 different uses. I always have both tied on. If you had both that would have been my choice.

Question for those who have bought used reels off of Ebay
SHARKBITE would not listen to me and bought 3 Trions off EBAY; all for 45 bucks all with shot Drag bearings! I have bought 17 reels from the Flea Market; all for at least 1/2 price , 4 were Trions used for myself and resold\ The other 13 were all given away and still in use by recipients of the Give away program EVEEY ONE OF THESE REELS ARE STILL IN ALMOST DAILY USE WITH NO ISSUES BEST SELLER FOR USED REELS; CART-7, hands down another EXCELLENT source; ffotackle.com; they recon a lot of returned reels and come at deep discounts and 90 day warranties, and we have several of these working just fine, well after the 90day period. ps 2 weeks ago I bought a 70's vintage ABU Ci5500 for 40 bucks in near mint condition, with the orignal booklet and spare parts in tact IT is now my everyday cranking reel You can't beat our Flea Market for price, value and quality!

Glue to secure loose line guide
EJ, Fletch and Alpster, 3 of the rod builders here, as well as Reel Mech have always suggested a rewrap, the 2 that I needed solved my problem. Superglue fixits that my friends have done, no matter how carefully always ended with them getting the rods re wrapped anyway

Fenwick Fans
The last time they Upgraded the HMG and The HMX line were "improved" to different levels I felt the HMX pretty much stayed the same, and the HMG was much better. I would try and feel and inspect a new one, and if you don't see value in the upgrade, I would watch ffo and Amazon for a deeply discounted older version.
