what todo when the bite is off?
id try a fluke. trying lures youve never caught anything on when the bite is off is not a good idea. youre setting yourself up for failure. then u may never throw that lure again cause "it dosent work". better to stick with your confidence baits and grind it out. maybe float the powerworm, maybe go to a bigger one and get those dinks off ya.

What kind of jigs do you use??
different jigs....different times to use them. i like your plane ol 1/2oz jig in blue and black or natural colors.(greens and browns). they work great for an all around presentation. football heads are good for rocky bottoms or deep structure.

My Cavitron story

Which line for my new Citica 200E?
i use the green. yozuri has flouro reflective properties, so i dont really think the clear matters in clear water. but i do think it does inn off colored water. polly wrong but thats my thinking.

Jon boat or canoe?
you can easily stand up and fish in a wide bottom'd 15ft canoe in protected waters or rivers. easy. done it a million times on wakulla river here. just have to sit down whenn someone goes by in a boat. ...... annd try not to hit anything unnderwater.... ie... logs, stumps...manatees,alligators...

This is gonna sound stupid but what is a split shot rig??
the reason that this hasnt replaced the c-rig is because it takes a long time for a 1/8 split shot to fall 18+ feet. and then when it gets there.... you cant feel it. split shotting is great for shallow water... and i suppose in super crystal clear deep water. this is the same rig i think we all threw as kids on our zebcos and a nightcrawler. was mine anyway. i like to use the stike king zero for this.... they will float a 3/0 hook and they are impervious to those d*@!m bream that attack this rig with vengence.

Reels for my rods question
so i played with a brand new citica today. eh.. i meann it was nice and i liked how small it was and how much thumb access to the spool there was. but.... it didnt reallly feel that smooth to me at all and it wasnt the most solid feeling thing either. it has two less bearings than the curado.... but feels light years different inn smoothness. i played with both the new saltwater accurist and the revo sx and both seemed as nice or better and the store was offering them much much cheaper. 70 for the accurist ad 90 for the sx. the citica was 110. *shrug* maybe a million other people came in this week and spun it. just my .02

Why do crankbait rods have to be different from standard rods??
u can just get a good medium action fiberglass rod instead of a graphite rod and itll do great with your cranks. thats what alot of pros do............ and me too! ;D
-
Any of you cast both right and left handed?
while i rarely find myself CASTING witth my left hand.... i most certainly reel with it. i fished spinning reels exclusively until recently so when i bought my first baitcast, i got a left hand retreive. since i had planned on using it for mostly bottom fishing i thught this was smart anyway. why cast and change hands? i mean i know this comes from all of us starting out on our zebco 33s.....but its ineffecent. i do both though.... like RF. left handed when you need to engage immediately, right handed for more relaxed things like spnrbt and crnnkbt. its easy to learn. im sure you could learn to cast lefthanded.

what spinning reel would you buy ?
save allotta lotta money and get a quantum incyte! didnt i just say this on another thread? : just kidding. if you had that kinda money a good shimano or diawa would be the way to go.

Do you like Pfluger reels?
np. apparrently it isnt a aluminum frame just reenforced, but u wouldnt know it. i use mine for trout and red fishing with the spare spool and drop shotting and light plastics with the ported spool and i dont know what i would do without it. ive caught 25+ inch reds on it with no flex or problems in anyway. the spare spool that i use in salt water HAS started to corrode a tiny bit... but ive had it now for 2 years. the reel shows little to no signns of wear or corrosion and feels like i took it out of the box yesterday. i know pflugers are good too.....*shrug*. just like my quantum.

Jon boat or canoe?
well.... based solely on the "12 ft." parameter, id say get a jb. a canoe that size cann be dicey and esp if your wife wants to go with you that may end badly. HOWEVER..... if you can get a 14 or 15ft. GHEENOE..... well then that is by far the best idea. they are the best of all worlds. my buddy and i go fishing out of his 15ft. gheenoe and we are both 200lbs. with our gear and a cooler.....u get the picture. weve been out in that thing in choppy inland waters and never had an issue. we can stand up (not at the same time) and stretch or whatever. the only drawbacks are room.... and seat backs. if you put an aftermarket seat on them, you raise the center of gravity and it gets hairy. canoe seat backs work fine though. a 14ft. johnboat is the same or less stable than the equivilent gheenoe unless you get a high-side nice one like a g3 in which case u are trailering it. also.... weve been running a 4 horse on the gheenoe with our big butts in it and it ran just fine on plane. thats not gonna happen in a square jb. and...... if you have engine problems or shallow water problems..... u can ALWAYS paddle a gheenoe! i love em.

rod longevity?
yeah, i just read the other thread down there that had gary loomis explaining im ratings and it explained alot to me in the sense that it wasnt really the rods fault that the owners before me may have accidently mistreated them and didnt even know it. ive owned graphite rods before a long time back and didnt have any problems that i remember but i went along time with durability being more important to me than sensitivity. like i said on the other post i feel more comfortable about the entire situation now. it didnt help my self esteem to know that millions of people only use graphite rods and dont have the issues i did. now i feel more confident that i was in fact right all along and the problem had nothing to do with me!! : : :

Graphite content in a rod
awesome read. glad i saw this. this puts to rest some issues ive had with graphite rods and i feel much more comfortable with purchasing a new one. good stuff.
-
rod longevity?
everytime i use a graphite rod it ends up breaking. hooksets, hangin up on a lilly pad, casting a spook- just some of the crappy ways i have broken them. these were all rods givin to me... and a few years old. but they allegedly had no problems. just old. and not cheap stuff either. had a st. croix break casting a spook jr. pathetic. i have to get a graphite rod for worm/c-rigging and frankly im terrified to spend more that 50 bucks on one. i am NOT hard on my equipment and baby most of my stuff obsessively. i have not bought a graphite rod until now cause i was normally in a gheenoe or canoe and didnt want to put them through it. now i spend more time co-angling on a bass rig and know its time to step up in some areas. think im getting a lightening rod or something. not spending 100 bucks on a shimano that breaks on a lillypad. :'(

Jigs and Soft Plastics
two things of advice. read all the articles on here that relate to the lure you want to learn and read through the forum archives. youll start noticing a pattern of brands and colors and techniques and favorable conditions to use them. secondly- most importantly- on a suitable day- take that lure and only that lure (in a few sizes and colors) and throw it. throw it all day wheather youre catching fish or not. you will learn how to present it and cast it. you cannot catch fish on a lure you never throw. just my 2 cents............
