  1. I could have wrote that a little better.Don't try typing and watching big bang theory at the same time.lol!
  2. I was looking at ultra light rods last winter and ended up buying a 7 ft light st croix eyecon rod instead. This past may i caught the biggest bass of my life on that rod (24") this past may.I love that rod for light stuff.
  3. This site is the best. Its because of guys like tom and some others who reply often and spew their hard earned knowledge for the rest of us for free. The more time one spends on this great site the better angler he becomes.I wish i had something more to add to this topic but these guys blow me away.
  4. I would repeat what marty said about the guides.I had something like that happen to me once on a brand new spool of braided line, turns out the top guide was cracked.
  5. When your sister in law makes the comment to your wife,"He cant be fishing all the time, nobody likes to fish that much."
  6. I have no insight to offer on the Hobie pro angler.I recently bought a wilderness system ride 115 and before buying it i typed in reviews for the ride 115 on different search engines and a few sites popped up offering owners opinions.Try typing in reviews for the Hobie pro angler 12 on yahoo,i'm sure you will get responses.
  7. Its funny you posted the sandpaper tip.I remember reading in another forum a couple years back a fisherman recommended doing that to increase sensitivity in his finger tips, something about sanding the dead skin cells off his finger tips so they would be more sensitive to fish taps.A little extreme.lol
  8. I had read online that neither of the guys were seriously hurt, they were stunned for a few moments but ok.
  9. Like fishes in trees said look at the us spinning reels,I bought one when they first came out years ago and i liked them so much i bought two more. I have one paired up with my legend elite, super light combo.
  10. In early may of this year i caught a 24"bass on a 4"wacky rigged yum dinger out at the strip pit club i belong to in illinois.I had just picked up my fishing kayak that day(first time in one) and i was nervous about bringing a lot of gear in case it would flip so i brought minimal gear with me,all i had was the bag of yum dingers, hooks, tape measure, and my 7ft st croix lite eyecon,The biggest fish of my life and i left the camera in the truck back on shore.
  11. I have seen guys connect three pallets together to make a pyramid shape and drag them out on the ice for the spring thaw.
  12. Hi Jim,I bought the ride 115 back in early may of this year.I have had no problem getting in and sitting down in the ride 115 and i am 51 and weigh in at 190#..Nothing odd about seat/height location either. If you search reviews on line it will be tough to find a complaint about the ride.My only complaint is i wish i was retired so i could use it every day..
  13. I cant say much about the u s baitcaster reels since i dont own any of them but i do have three of their spinning reels and i prefer using them over some of the shimano reels i own,Their is nothing fancy about them but they get the job done, plus i havent had any problems with any of them in the 4-5 years i have owned them.
  14. I just picked up my first fishing kayak three months ago.I went with the wilderness system ride 115.I dont have a lot of experience with other makes and models to compare it to but i have to say i love it.I have reached the point to where i am planning on selling my to pond prowlers because i love the simplicity of kayak bass fishing. If you look on you tube you can see videos of the ride 115 where fisherman are standing and casting out of it,i have stood up in it often(mainly to pee) but with me being 52 i would be a little hesistant to stand and cast away, the guys on the videos must have put there time in(practice) to be that confident. The ride is a great kayak,i fish a lot of time sitting on the edge with my legs dangling in the water with no fear of flipping it over.Kayak fishing is a blast, you will love it.
  15. Definitely grab your self some 4" yum dingers in water melon color and wacky rig them.I have fished strip pits most of my life and this has been the best consistent producer for me.I also have had luck with some 3" kahlin watermelon grubs rigged on 1/8 jig heads for those times when they want some thing faster moving.
  16. I fish similar water.I would try a 4" senko or yum dinger in watermelon color wacky rigged.I have had good luck with the yamamoto shad shape worm in watermelon color rigged weightless on a straight shank hook Another lure Ive had good luck with in that type of water is a 3"kahlin grub in watermelon color rigged on a 1/8 oz ball jig head.Like the others have said drop shotting works well in that type of water, those shad shape worms works good on a drop shot also.I use 10# power pro braided line which is 2# diam in the moss green color so i can cast a country mile as not to spook the fish in that clear water.
  17. I never had any luck spraying my clothes with deet as a deterrent ,i would spray it on and watch the ticks crawl up my pants like i used water. The only thing i found effective against ticks was applying a band of double face tape on each pant leg about knee cap high, the ticks would crawl up my pants and get stuck on the tape.
  18. I always wondered the same thing. With all the hi tech cameras out there how come when its a UFO or Bigfoot the pictures are always out of focus.
  19. Drank a thermos of old coffee that was sitting in the pot from the week before. I added new grounds and added water and started piling all my gear into the car while it was brewing,i was so excited to go fishing i never thought about checking the decanter to see if it was empty before starting a new pot,i kept wondering why it tasted funny and was luke warm at best,i figured maybe the coffee maker was on its way out before realizing my sister in law was at the house the week before and made a pot and didn't finish it all.
  20. I have been out fishing at two different locations. The first place was a cemetery retention pond that i told has bass. (no luck) The second place i tried was a cook county forest preserve lake.(no luck) At the forest preserve lake there were a few others fishing so i walked along and chatted with them, all of us got skunked.I tried lipless cranks, black & blue jig,and a Berkly swim bait.
  21. It looks like none of us boys from Illinois are catching any fish yet.I have been out a few times the past two weeks and haven't caught anything either, actually i am still waiting for my first hit.I have tried grubs, shakey head worm, flukes, wacky rigged zoom finesse worms, bitsy bug jigs, and a 1/4oz lipless crank bait all to no avail.Come on spring!
  22. Good luck Chris, go out a catch a monster for those of us stuck at work who wish we could join you.
  23. This is the future. This is why our country is doomed.
  24. Luckily i have an understanding wife. For those of you that are not so fortunate maybe you can stash it small piles around the garage and the house, so at least when she stumbles upon your tackle it wont look massive and cause a fight.
  25. I get some kind of reaction when i take aspirin. I remember taking it when i was a kid and never having a problem but as i got older it messes with my stomach.
