  1. The reel may be a year old from when he bought it but remember, the Accurist was not in Quantum's line up last year. The reel has to be an '08 model at best. They just brought it again back this year.
  2. I just checked, the Potomac is running about 2-2 1/2' above normal flow. So it's up, but not too bad.
  3. Good luck this weekend Brian_82 and basspro15! Catch a couple for me! btw, there were several more pics Hellbenderman sent me, I just put up the bigger ones! I believe total, there were about 15.
  4. Rarely loose skirts (I zip tie them on when I can ). Another thing you can try is a 4" tube for a slimmer profile.
  5. Yeah, I gotta agree there. Tried hitting dam 4 yesterday for a little bit. The levels just weren't cooperating for fishing it from shore. > Too high to fish the rip rap right below the dam and either too high or too low for me to fish the other area I do well. Had it been about 2' lower I could've worked one section of it and had it been about 2' higher I could've fished it another way. It had me in trees where I couldn't make a decent cast either way. Oh well, there will be other days! Snyders is a bit low at normal levels but I have fun fishing that section. Surprisingly, I've only fished right down at Shepardstown a handful of times from shore (even back when I lived in Sharpsburg). Go figure? :-?
  6. Here's Hellbenderman's pics! Congrats again! Oh, and I know EXACTLY where you were!
  7. Dang! I knew I shoulda went back to BH this evening! Fished the "stick ups" at lunch today and got blanked. Hit the canal at PEPCO this evening and managed one small one on a spinnerbait, no other action. I'll post the piics shortly Chris! Congrats on your outing! Sounds like fun!!! Wishing I could get the boat down there this weekend but have to head to PA for Mom's b-day.
  8. I followed you completely Chris! I'm guessing with the temps you mentioned, you were in fairly clear water? I know that east arm, back at the place I call the stick ups, was pretty stained wednesday when I was there at lunch. If there's that much that much of a difference in the water clarity, I can understand why that boat was getting the water temps they were. Thanks for the report!
  9. Popped over to dam 4 for a little while today. The levels were at an odd level. Yeah, its still up but not high enough for my one area but too low to really be able to work the rip rap. Shot over to the C&O in Williamsport for a little while and managed one dink on a jerkbait. Saw a good one (4-5lb range) cruising but couldn't get her to take a second look at anything.
  10. How can you hate a place with so many "slammin' 'gills"? Hmmm, let's see............... jake hates it, SPEED hates it and I hate it! Majority rule! You're out numbered BK! ;D ;D
  11. Hellbenderman, I'll throw 2 options your way for tomorrow. First would be a 3/8-1/2oz spinnerbait (double willow) in a bubblegum color. Slow roll it in the 4-8' range around the submerged timber (works great in stained water-hint hint). The other would be a t-rigged lizard (your choice of color) on the lightest weight you can get away with, crawled on the bottom in 2-5' around submerged timber. And yes, these 2 techniques have scored my biggest bass (from shore) this time of the year. Andy, Black Hills is located just outside of Germantown. It's great working only 10 minutes from there! Love going there at lunch to take my mind off things! ;D
  12. Between those 2, I'd say the 6.4:1 as well. Personally, I like a slower reel when I throw spinnerbaits. Mine is an Energy PT in a 5.1:1.
  13. Welcome to THE boards basspro15! Be sure to pop on the MD Who's Who thread as well. I created the thread a while back for us MD anglers to get to know each other and share information. I'm sure if you look back through the pages, you'll find some anglers close to you. It's been fairly active lately.
  14. CWB, These look close to the ones that 5Bass has in the Flea Market. I picked up 10 from him and they work great!
  15. Thanks for the sanity check Hellbenderman! Good to know my little thermometer isn't too far off. LOL
  16. Wow Basser! I can't believe PoR's is still climbing! I track the gauge at Hancock (cause it closely follows the same depths as the one section I fish the most). The Hancock gauge has hit its peak and has started back down (slowly, but it is coming down). When I accidently left my thermometer at Black Hills at the lake. I went back in the evening and luckily, it was still there. When I pulled it out of the lake, it read 56 then. I don't think this cold snap would've had a major affect on the temps. Heck, the lake I was fishing over the weekend, the water temps were still climbing even though the air temps were way cooler than the water temps. If all goes well and I can get the boat in order, I'm planning on hitting Black Hills this weekend.
  17. We talked to a couple boats. There were 2 or 3 boats that had their limit (3) and at least one with 2 bass and another 1 or 2 that had 1 bass. We lefted before the weigh in so don't know anymore than that.
  18. Looks like the levels are about 4' (and rising again) above normal flow. I haven't been over to the Potomac since I posted the flood pics the other week. I'd love to fish taylors area a little more but those dang boat ramps there flat out SUCK! The lower one is too shallow and the upper one is right in the heart of the strongest part of the current and doesn't help that ramp also just drops off so far out. Have checked the temps at the Williamsport power plant lately, the last I had heard they were pushing close to 50 degrees. Could be interesting real soon!
  19. Oh gee, let's see. Where to start? Got out of the truck a little before 7 and the air temp was about 26. Launched the boat and found the water temp was about 44.5 which wasn't that far off what SPEEDBEAD had found when he prefished it last weekend. Went to his first spot where he found fish last weekend and got nothing. Let me say, after seeing his side imaging unit he has, I gotta get me one of those! Anyone want to loan me about $2600? ;D ;D ;D Headed across the lake then and marked some fish. Thought this is a good sign! Each of us had a hit there but couldn't hook up. > Stayed there for a good while but no other luck. Fished our way back to hit the stump line out from the ramp. SPEED got another hit but no takers again. Decided to call it a day at 2 after hearing a couple boats had limits. Have I mentioned that I hate that place? LOL! Can I get an Amen SPEED???
  20. Finally got to try out my KVD crankin rod (7'4" model) today. Very happy with it!
  21. Don't feel too bad Basser! While I wasn't in MD (crossed the Mason Dixon line), I wasn't catchin today either. At the warmest, the water I was fishing was 46.5. Air temps when I started was about 26 or so.
  22. Thanks for the follow up Hellbenderman! I appreciate that! I popped over to the "stick ups" today for a little while. The water was still stained back there. My guess is with the color of the water its probably a little warmer which would bring them in a little closer. This front with the rain and all probably will make them a little tougher to catch but give them a little bit a sun and I think that'll turn them back on. Sorry Boett, I never made it down to see what the river looked like. My main focus that evening was seeing if I could put anything together in the canal in that short time that I had day light. Might pop over there after work tomorrrow, not sure yet though. Let us know how you do!!!
  23. You heard correct Basser714. The NW sections of a lake will receive the most sun light. Being that Black Hills has 3 different arms (technically), you'll have 3 different NW sections to fish. For me, I have the most confidence in the eastern arm. The bass in my avatar and the bookend pics in my signature all came from this arm of the lake and all before the end of May. The 10 mile creek arm is a nice little hike fishing it from shore. If you've never been back there, the back of that arm is VERY shallow (2 maybe 3' at best) and poluted with standing and laydown timber. It looks fishy enough but I haven't managed any big girls out of there but I also haven't spent a whole lot of time back there earlier on in the year. Hope this helps some! Nice report Dave! The 3 I pulled out last thursday from Black Hills were between 4-8' (that's an estimate). Hey Brian, you like fishing with me because you catch all the bass when we go! LOL! I'll prove to you yet that I actually can catch them! ;D Planning on hitting Black Hills at lunchtime a couple times this week, I'll be sure to let you know how I make out. Hopefully I can throw you a bone or two on what they're doing! Boett, I hit the canal at Dickerson for about an hour last Thursday evening. I forgot my thermometer so I can't give you a temp reading. Only had spinnerbaits with me and got blanked in there. Looks like there's some new laydowns in there too. Wish I could give you more but that's all I have on that place.
  24. Depends on the conditions. I have 3 models that I go to at different times. Rattlehead, Picasso and Strike King.
