Shaving
Shave in the shower. Can't get the hair much softer than in a nice hot shower. I can get most of it in there (and I've never gotten cut while doing this) and any little touch ups are done right after I get out. No shave gel required. ;D

2010 MD fishing expo
Lee, when were you there? I only bought 6 baits. A new color Bandit 100 series crankbait (that I couldv'e bought anywhere), a jerkabit by a company called Stillwater lures and 4 spinnerbaits. The spinnerbaits look identical to one I bought there several years ago before the company went out of business. Matter a fact, I think they're left overs from that company. The rubber bands holding the skirts on were dry rotted on a couple of them. No big deal for me since I zip tie all my skirts on.

2010 MD fishing expo
Allen, are you looking at getting the HDS-10 unit? That one was pretty sweet! I'd love to get one but that'll be a little ways off. I'm over due for a trolling motor upgrade! I think I can make due with the HDS-8 model when I do finally upgrade there. dave, I must have been blind! I completely missed it! I did see both of Faircloth's seminars. I was mostly interested in his jig seminar. I got a little one on one time with him after that seminar to talk about a couple of bodies of water I fish. Very nice guy and was very helpful!!! I wasn't really into seeing Ish's seminar so I blew that one off to do a little shopping at SFT. I didn't realize that Kevin Short was going to be there as well. Saw him hanging out around the one boat dealer.

Quiantum Kevin Vandam Signature Series Rods?
I just checked it out at a fishing expo today myself. It does look and feel good! I wouldn't see why it wouldn't fish good as well.

Best Fluorocarbon?
XPS for me as well. I would like to try Sufix though.

2010 MD fishing expo
Hey Munkin, what did you think of the new Lowrance? dave, where in the world was the Indian Head Charters? I looked for it today and never saw it. :-? I liked the Faircloth's jig seminar. Got to see Ish and Kevin Short was there as well. Overall though, I was disappointed.

Eastern Sports and Outdoors Show- Harirsburg, PA
Its been many moons since I've gone and it was getting less and less when I went last too. I think I may have been there once or twice since I got my boat there. And that was back in 97.

Spinnerbaits for Muddy Water
I have a lake here that typically ranges from stained to muddy most of the time. My spinnerbait choices for this lake consist of a double colorado bladed bait with a firetiger skirt to a double willowleaf (both blades are painted chart) with a solid chart skirt and a single colorado bladed spinnerbait with a black shirt.

Used Senko but want advise on spinnerbait
Glenn's video is a great place to start! KVD's Proven Spinnerbait Techniques is another DVD that I'd recommend picking up. There's a lot of information there as well. For me, spinnerbaits don't become productive until the water temps hit about 48 degrees. I'll throw them from the time it hits 48 until the late fall when it falls back down below 48. A couple standard colors to start out with that I'd suggest would be a white, chartruese & white, solid chartruese and a black. Most of the waters that I fish are clear so I usually throw a double williow bladed bait with a natural colored skirt except when fishing at night and then I'll throw a single colorado bladed bait with the black skirt. Muddy water conditions I treat similar to night time conditions. Colorado blades mostly with either a black or chartruese skirt.

Spinnerbait fans
I use trailer hooks about 90% of the time. And as Crankenstein mentioned, I always let them swing free. It's rare that I've had the trailer hooks foul up on a cast or retrieve but when it has it doesn't affect the tracking that much. To me, the trailer hook helps to tell me if I need to adjust something with the bait itself (whether its the retrieve, color or blade combination) if they're not completely inhaling the bait. If they're just slapping at the bait, I still have the chance to hook that fish with the second hook. Just makes sense to me to use them. There's the suggestion of trimming the skirts up to help minimize the ones that come up and just nip at the end of the skirt. I perfer the fuller skirts so the trailer hook helps prevent those cases from happening as well.

Giant!
You're right, it wasn't released. There's pics in the Field and Stream like that shows the musky in a lab somewhere. Most of my biggest ski's get released, unless I can't CPR them. A small keeper size (I'd get banned from saying this on a musky forum) I do keep from time to time. Musky are great eating! It's a toss up between them and walleye on which one I think taste better.

PA guys (and surrounding areas) want to meet at BPS on 1/24?
Wish I could join you! Like I had told you earlier, I have my daughter that weekend. Why don't you pick me up a few of those XPS jerkbaits! ;D Hey, don't forget to pop on down to the Chinese buffet afterwards! I was just there with my little brother over the holidays. They still have your chicken feet! Needless to say, I passed on them! LOL

Sufix Mono elite or siege
I've used both but I give Siege the nod! Its the only mono brand I have spooled up right now on my bass gear. Not sure why since Elite is supposed to like XL and Siege like XT but I think Siege has less memory than the Elite.

Carolina Rig Technique
Like you Dirk, I just started using the c-rig last year. Since I had 0 confidence in it, I picked a shallow canal to build my confidence up in the rig. My best retrieve was a slow drag pausing to wind up the slack (keeping tension on the line while reeling back to do my next movement). My hook up success only happened with the low sweeping hookset. I'm going to add this because at least to me, it was important part of my success. When I first tried the c-rig out, I was using a cheaper rod (about $50 range). I really didn't have much feel with this rod which in turn didn't give me much confidence in it. It wasn't until I upgraded to a better rod ($110 range) that I was able to gain the feel for what was going on down there and the confidence grew and I started landing fish with it! A sensitive rod is key, at least it was to me!

What was your first artificial lure?
The first bait I remember using was a 2" Mister Twister grub in chartruese. The first bait I bought was a black and silver Humpback Rebel. Man, did I tear the smallies and rock bass up on that bait! Within a year, the little tacklebox I had, had 4 different colored Humpbacks and a couple colors of grubs. Now? Well, we won't go there! LOL

Jig head suggestions please
Thanks! That weightless presentation really has me thinking I want to give that a shot!

Jig head suggestions please
Thanks Delaware Valley Mike and roadwarrior! I hadn't considered the t-rig option. roadwarrior, what size hook are you using? 1/0 EWG?

Jig head suggestions please
Hey All, I've decided to add spider grubs to my arsenal for fishing for smallies on the upper Potomac. I'm looking for suggestions as far as what jig heads to put the 4" spider grubs I've picked up. The majority of the areas I'm fishing for smallies are either rocky or loaded with rock ledges. I'm thinking a football head style to help minimize hang ups. Does this make sense? Do I need one with a weed guard? Any input (head style, weight, hook size, etc) would be greatly appreciated!

Spinner Bait Color
I have to agree with Sam on the KVD video! Well worth the money! I also have KVD's Advanced Spinnerbait Tatics and its good too. Glenn's video here on BR is a great source of information too!
