Line lays heavy on bottom of spinning reel
.Ghoti, it worked about 90% success, just a slight tapering now, not too bad..........thanks My primary spool is perfect. I've had this problem a few times before on other reels, a different spool was the cure. I have another one coming so I'll see how that spool fares.

Line lays heavy on bottom of spinning reel
Thanks .Ghoti Willing to bet it's the spool, just does lay in quite deep enough.

DICKS SPORTING GOODS!!
I like Dick's. Some months ago I wanted a rod that was no longer in stock at my local store. A sales person located the rod at a Dicks several hundred miles away and had it shipped to my door with no additional shipping charge. For the type of gear I use they have more than an ample supply.

Line lays heavy on bottom of spinning reel
I know, I was just reaching. Could be a bad spool, I have a new one coming. I have had this problem before, it's not brand related, 2 shimanos, 1 pflueger and 1 abu.

Line lays heavy on bottom of spinning reel
Too much line loads on bottom my second spool ( spinning, first spool is perfect). No spacers to remove, I added a couple of spaces but no change.

Fishing Gear Insurance?
Check Texas insurance laws. My HO insurance in Florida was high due to threats of a hurricane or named storms, deductibles are reasonable with the exception of a named storm then the deductible is 2% of insured value. $2000 for a 350 k home would have been very reasonable here. Now in effect is a program that if you get a wind mitigation inspection, cost $75-$100, your premium gets cut roughly in half as mine did. Your premium is not based on market value, value of homes in many markets have been slashed, but on replacement or reconstruction costs, value of land excluded. HO insurance companies get real picky about too many small claims,as many are fictitious. When I got hit by Hurricane Wilma the claim was hefty and payout was prompt less the 2% deductible, with no rate increase or cancellation, my neighbors had the same experience as I had. Many times your agent will not mention this as their commissions are based on the total premium paid.

The action was on fire.
I got a spot for ya.....Hypoluxo, Fl...right on the ocean with your own dock on the Intracoastal for your 34'contender, about 2 miles from the inlet.......probably under 5 mil now, In most places you're on the ocean or the intracoastal, not both, can't dock on the ocean.

The action was on fire.
At the Boynton inlet, both north and south beach were equally as hot. Yesterday morning was dead with a needlefish and tiny snook but I heard thru the vine the bite started at around 3pm yesterday afternoon. 8' NE ground swell, today was only about 6', a few weeds on north but south beach was perfectly clean. This groundswell is supposed to last a few days so hopefully the fishing will stay good, maybe 20# jacks tomorrow( 1 and I will go home and take a nap, hehe), they do school according to size.

The action was on fire.
A day we dream about and it doesn't happen often. A strike on almost every cast. The bluefish and jacks were out in force, no blue less than 6# and most jacks in the 6-8 # range. My arms are sore from 90 minutes of non stop action.

Changing plastic back into oil
I'm retired now, I spent nearly 35 years in the business. I first broke in working at a waste paper company. There are different grades of paper and the same with iron & metals there is a wide range of scrap prices, they are commodities. Whether it's paper, plastic, metals or precious metals recycling has been around for eons and is a multi billion dollar biz. So much of what you use in your daily life has been manufactured from recyclables, most of the time it's more cost effective to recycle scrap than mine ore, but mining goes on as we need lots of raw materials, needless to say China is the biggest consumer of scrap over the last 10 years or so. I was amazed by this technology because in my dealings with plastic scrap every grade needed to be segregated and very clean, then reground back into pellets for injection molding. Recycling is the right thing to do, many items to not biodegrade or take a long time in our landfills, some states are running out of landfill space and sell their garbage to other states. I don't want to get long winded but in countries where they do not actively practice recycling and have little or no conservation programs there is devastation, Amazon rain forest comes to mind. Checking that out may persuade some get yellow and blue bins, it may just improve your own recreational fishing.

braid for small reels
I thought you didn't care for that Daiwa reel? Must be a pretty decent reel if you haven't had a wind knot with it for 4 months so far. I don't like the weight, 10.7 oz heavy for a small reel, the drag and smoothness don't compare to my soron 20. For the few wind knots I do get on the Abu the performance totally outshines the Daiwa. Had I never owned a cardinal 800 series or sorons stx I would have thought the Daiwa was good. Both the tierra and soron are not used for bass, under saltwater conditions it's Abu hands down. Always willing to try something different and had not owned a Daiwa in 40 years, so I gave it a shot. I'm not saying it's a bad reel just not as good as the soron.

Changing plastic back into oil
Being in the recycling industry I thought the video was fascinating. I have bought and sold many tons of plastic over the years and what amazed me was no separation of the different types of plastic materials. Just like metals plastic comes in a wide variety of different blends. Also in this recycling application the plastic does not have to be clean it's garbage and as rule plastic must be free of dirt and foreign materials to be reground. I'm in awe........this is important technology.

I must be crazy
thanks bilge, appreciate the info. I've used PB blaster many times, it's good stuff. One thing I've from business is to use professional service where part are usually available and second never use a back alley mechanic. Running 4 Mac diesels trucks and several med to heavy duty gas rigs taught me going cheap is more expensive in the long run. That said I'm done with Shimano, as much as I like the stradic it just doesn't hold up to the salt as other reels do, no wonder not that many seen down here. But I'm chasing and going to fix this reel, should have just tossed it into the brine. One nice thing about being retired, I have time and money so no big deal. Just a little side bar, had 2 abu's both about 2 years old, an 802 and 704, with a very slight gear feel. Called Pure Fishing and spoke to a tech and he said just a little short on lube, send them in and I'll replace both of them, 6 days later Fed ex dropped off a new soron 20 and a new soron 40, upgrade with no charge and they even paid the shipping back. I'm sticking with these guys.

I must be crazy
Pretty much what they told me, the bail assembly was $25.90, which I was going to order but the cust rep was unsure if all the internal parts were included. I'm sure it may cost me about $70 and down time, but I may just get treated " right ". It's only money !

I must be crazy
My reel mechanic had it a few days and couldn't budge it, always a chance I'll get a new reel, seeing as Shimano has the part on back order until Feb, worth a shot , I'm buying a new one(3000fi) anyway in addition to the fix, to replace a Daiwa I'm not crazy about..

I must be crazy
Been having fits with my stradic 4000 fi, the line roller bearing is rusted( common stradic problem) in place and cannot be removed. By the time I pay for the shipping both ways, then parts and labor I'm better off buying a new one, but like a schmo I'm sending in to Shimano. The grinding noise is not noticeable if i I fish in the wind......lol. I do like this reel.

What line for Stripers?
40# braid is fine but I would use a heavier leader, most saltwater guys I know, including myself would probably use 40 or 50#. My everyday setup is 15#braid with 30# leader or 20# braid with 40#leader. I've gone back and forth mono vs fluro leader and have yet to see the difference in number of strikes, at present I cut my leaders form Ande mono.

braid for small reels
sqhertz...... I have the same problem and imo it's the reel more than the line. I'm using a Pflueger supreme 25 and I get more than my share of wind knots using 10# PP ( no windknots on my supremes 30& 35 with 15# PP). Prior to this reel I used an Abu 101, seldom windknots on this cheepy and used both PP 10# and fireline 10#. To augment my position on the reel I had a Johnny Morris wide spool with 20# PP, windknot after windknot, returned reel in favor of a Daiwa tierra, put same line on and have yet to have a windknot in 4 months.

LOVE this car. 1961 Mercedes SL. Tuned by RennTech. Mods by HR & CS
Thanks Redline.........I loved that car, 0-60 I could walk faster, no performance parts were made for those MB's, different case for Porsche. Car required little maintenance and was very dependable, had a ball with it. Knew of a guy who had a 280sl, we shared the same German mechanic so I saw the car often, built back up from the lugs with about $120,000, but still only worth around 25k then, lol. Being from Detroit I had my muscle cars too.

guide tipping etiquette
I give 15-20% but I would rather take the tip out of the equation by just paying a higher price in the first place. Yesterday I go out on a drift boat, now these guys work on tips, cost of the 4 hour trips is about $40, usually a $10 tip. They take the fish you don't want, sell kings for $2.00 a pound (my 10 pounder was worth $20) and sell other species for bait , is that not a tip in itself?
