  1. How about catching a fish, unhooking it with needle nose pliers and intead of tossing the dink into the lake I tossed my pliers! Talk about feeling like an idiot.
  2. The Mann's jelly worms smell awesome. I only use the purple colored ones and they smeel just like the grape bubble gum I chewed growing up. Brings back good memories! BTW, the little 4" worms are killer on days when the bite is slow.
  3. There are tons of places to fish around there. Check out the VDGIF website for lists of places.
  4. Great post! You've got the memories that we all dream of having. It sounds like your dad was a great man and he passed his genes on down the line. I cherish the times my dad and I are out fishing together. It's the one time when we can just talk about anything and don't have to worry about everything going on in the world.
  5. I watched some of it but was pretty bored with it. He sure seems like a real *$ after watching that show.
  6. f-f-i, That is the exact way I think also. (time for a plug for me) Luckily, I'm just over halfway through and have a 3.94 GPA!
  7. Tell her to put a "For Sale" sign in his yard one night and try to find his number to put on it. Maybe he'll get the point then. I'd be the same as you though. Add to that the fact that I'm borderline OCD and having trash in his front yard that long would have probably put me over the edge.
  8. I have the same problem this semester with one of my classes. The only thing I can say is to just keep plugging along. I'm on week 14 of sixteen so I feel like I'm home free now. I've also got another "A" to go on my transcript!
  9. It depends on how far up the James you want to go. IMO the best smallmouth fishing is to be had from where the Maury intersects the James to about Scottsville. There are MANY places to launch a yak from in this area.
  10. I'm turning it on right now!
  11. BigBassGuy, that is about as close as I've found but it isn't the exact color. I am gonna buy them though. Thanks! BassNman Mike, pm sent!
  12. I've got several foxy shad but this color replicates the blue back herring shad in a couple of lakes I fish and outfishes basically everything in my box when the crankbait bite is on.
  13. It may be a guppy but I'm not sure. I know it's not the fry because I have some of those and it's bigger in size than them.
  14. While fishing today I lost my absolute best crankbait. I've had it for several years and it has outcaught every single bait in my box! It's a Bomber and I think it's a Fat Free Shad but I'm not sure since the writing has come off the sides. It dives about 6-8 feet. It's dark blue on top and fades down to white on the bottom. It has the black dot near the top of the back and a pink spot under the bill. Find me this and I'll buy any you can get me with this color regardless of the size or condition of the bait as long as it works. BTW, Bomber doesn't make this color anymore that I can find. Here is the only pic I have of it.
  15. I'll start with yesterday. It was a beautiful day but I didn't catch one single fish in the two hours I headed out yesterday evening. I did run across something sad though. I was fishing an 8 acre pond that has lots of big bass in it. Although I had not saw one I have heard of several 10+ pounders being caught in the last couple of years. It looks like someone must have caught this one because it has only been dead a few days and looked healthy in size. I didn't pick it up but did get a measurement of almost 26" long with a huge girth. I put a fluke beside it so you can get an idea of how big she actually was. I hope there are many others like her in there. On a happier note. I went fishing this morning at a 505 acre boy scouts owned lake that has VERY limited access and only around the dam area. I've been fishing this lake since I was a kid so over 25 years. I've pulled many 7-8 pound bass from here as well as my dad pulling a 12 pounder out of there a couple years ago. I fished for two hours and came away with over 30 bass and the majority of them were 2-4 lbs. There was another guy fishing there and he landed an 8-8 according to my scales and it was 23 inches long. None like this for me today though. It was still a great day of fishing!
  16. I picked September although October is right there with it.
  17. I've got a 6x10 utility trailer that I haul my 12' jon on. It works perfect for this also. I back it down the ramp till the trailer almost touches the water and slide the boat out at this point. The low trailer makes this a very easy thing to accomplish. I honestly believe this is easier than a regular trailer to use with a jon. Not only that but you can use it for other things to haul.
  18. That's the way I am with a fluke.
  19. Water only while on the boat. Keeps me from having to pee so often and helps with dehydration. For a snack I load up on granola bars.
  20. I couldn't have said it better myself. Once you find this spot you can load right up to the roller with almost no effort.
  21. I used to have a Nitro but 2 kids later and it's been sold. I'm now fishing out of a 96 Quantum fish and ski with a 120Force on it. Decent boat, it floats so that's all that matters. I've got a 12' plastic Coleman jon too.
  22. Although I haven't fished it in about 5 years there was a small farm pond a couple properties over from where I lived. This pond is probably an acre in size and the deepest point is less than 8' deep. It holds a bunch of 1lb+ bluegill and I've personally caught several 6lb+ bass out of it. Suprisingly I didn't catch very many small bass or small bluegill out of it. The pond had very dark water and seemed very acidic as it was surrounded by pine trees.
  23. Looks like a good time was had! I hate to break the news to you but 22" IS a citation bass.
