I have a 14ft Lund that has a weight capacity of 800lbs. The nameplate says 200lbs for the motor/fuel/gear and 600 for the people. I would be hesitant to put more than 800lbs of modifications and humans in the boat because it was not designed for that. and my hull is bare bones. Here is a 16ft Tracker for example. This boat has floatation, seats and accessories and the max weight allowance is similar to my bare bones Lund https://www.trackerboats.com/boat/specs.cfm?boat=4277

I guess my answer to the above, is if you don't know, how a hull performs without modifications, how are we supposed to know how it will perform with modifications

You can go to Cabelas in Hoffman or BPS in Bollingbrook and get a new 14ft jon, a 9.9 Tohatsu, and a trailer for about $4k-4500. If you want something with a deck and storage, you're going to have to go used to stay in your price range. It is what it is. I have a 14ft Lund I've been contemplating parting with. I bought it to fish the Fox, but it has been garaged in Wisconsin since I bought it. The motor in the pic has already bee sold, but I do have a 15hp Evinrude (No badges). I also have new transom and bow mounted trolling motors and a Helix 5 that I bought and they are sitting in my garage in IL. If this suits you, let me know when you're ready to pull the trigger. I might be willing to part with them.

You can buy an extended warranty from Mercury for as long as your motor is under the original factory warranty of 3 or 5 years, whichever you originally got. You can buy the warranty from Mercury or any Mercury dealer. BUT the price of the extended warranty increases every year. The cost that Mercury gave you, which you posted above, is the cheapest it will be. I'm going on year 7 with my 2 stroke. It has been professionally maintained every year. It has worked flawlessly.

Unfortunately, much of it is a family thing. Fishing runs deep in my blood. I love the fact that the high schools have fishing teams, but it should probably start much younger. Kids fishing derbys are almost non existent anymore because they cost too much money and they require kids to put down the video games. I'd really like the grammar schools or park districts to have an elective fishing program. At least get the kids introduced to the sport/hobby a an early age. For the past 2 years, I volunteer, along with my father and @cadman and his wife, for a program that introduces kids to the outdoors. It's one day a year and we teach kids ages from 5-15 how to cast. The program also introduces them to firearms, archery, and gun hunting among other things. 99% of the kids have never picked up a fishing rod, and they graduate from closed faced spincasting to spinning reels in 45 minutes. We even teach some of the parents. Unfortunately, these programs are far and few between and I cannot tell you how difficult it is to get people to give up one day of their lives to volunteer to help others. I have contemplated starting a "take a kid fishing" guide service, but feedback on numerous online forums makes me second guess the idea. I PM'd a member here this morning asking how old his boy was when he first took him on the boat. My boy was 15 when I bought my first boat, so that doesn't matter. My grandson is 18 months and infatuated with fish. He loves my trophy wall and was mesmerized at both the zoo and Shed Aquarium by the fish. I'm excited to take him out on the boat for his first go-around

Easier to catch them at ice out. Musky, pike, and trout all spawn during 50-55* water temps. Same as walleye and perch. They'll be way more aggressive and easier to target from a boat. Otherwise, if you really want to ice fish for them, I'm not sure about Michigan but, Wisconsin would be the place to go. They catch browns and lakers thru the ice in Milwaukee/Racine/Kenosha harbors, and you can get pike on tip ups and live bait most anywhere in WI.

Unless you plan on keeping the boat for a long time, I'd invest the $800 in pot stocks and when you've made a fortune, cash out and get a decent boat.
