It was more than a few years back. Rosemont used to fill the entire exhibition hall. You'd have hundreds of boats to look at, not 25. Manufacturers reps giving away free samples, and ALOT more retailers. I think with the advent of the internet is why the shows are smaller. It's alot easier to get your name out there now if you are a bait company. On the down side it also created more companies and competition between the companies. tbone, a 600 series Ranger isn't practical for bass fishing on the Fox Chain and frankly I don't think any bass boat is practical for smallie fishing either downtown or Door County where I fish. I'm also thinking about fishing for browns out of Milwaukee in the spring and fall. Lake Michigan can turn on you in an instant. I've been out there when it has. Trust me, you don't want to get caught unprepared. I know a Lund went down off Waukegan during perch season 2 years ago due to operator error. The guy had his drift socks set up wrong and pulled the stern under. Anyway, the Predator seems to be a good compromise for my fishing style. The deck is as big as a Z9's There's more than enough storage for my crap and they hold on to their value pretty well. I'm open for suggestion if you think you know of a better boat for me.

Pros and cons of both? Maintenance, longevity, fuel efficiency, overall cost to own. Motor would go on a 20+ foot boat 1600+lbs. I do fish tourneys, but going 80mph is not a priority. Top speed on this particular boat is 62-64mph. Probably less than 100hr per year put on it. 80% would be on small(er)inland lakes, 20% on Lake Michigan. Longevity is my main concern. I'm currently boat shopping. Leaning towards a Lund 2010 Predator. Would love to get 20+ years from it. I know the Lund will last that long, but which motor? I've been running a 90ELPTO for 9 years and invested nothing but annual maintenance. I hear plenty of stories on other websites about blown powerheads and lower units on the bigger motors. I figure I can get an unbiased opinion here without all the arguing. I have also heard motors rated at 150 or less are less prone to problems. I don't know if theres any truth to that or if it's because guys aren't running balls out on the smaller motors. So, Tell me what I need to hear.

Start time at 7:00 and it's 3:00, they want to go home even though the job isn't done, yet he showed up late because he overslept. I just look at it like job security. Raider, I wrote up work for an electrician on a panel a couple years ago at a refrigerated warehouse. Boss asked me to do it and I denied because I didn't feel comfortable. I'm not required to do that work per the contract anyway. Boss asked another guy he knew wouldn't say no. Just to save a buck. He's lucky to be alive today. He somehow shorted out the panel and blew the main outside. The blast threw him 20 feet. From what I recall the fuses at the main cost my company a grand a piece. I'm still sitting at home from my surgery. Doctor is saying about 5 more weeks of therapy and that's about all I'm going to get from my shouder. Where I'm sitting, that's not good. Unless a miracle happens, I'm worried I may be forced to join the otherside and become a carpet walker.

6 of one 1/2 dozen of the other. There are pros and cons to both. In general, tin boats blow around more because they are normally lighter, and normally sit higher out of the water. They also allow you to get into shallower water because they draft less. Generally you get a better ride from a glass boat. A glass boat requires a little more maintenance, being wiped down after each use and waxed on occasion. If you fish shallow rocky water a tin boat is probably a must. Do plenty of research. All 'glass boats are not the same, and all tin boats are not the same.

Why work for a firm? I don't claim to know anything about the accounting business. I do know my sister worked for one of the top firms out of college and hated every minute of it. My father on the otherhand worked at the coporate level in accounting and then insurance for a worldwide automotive chain for 30 years, all the while running his own firm out of our basement. He's 75 and currently works for my sister, because my mother would kill him if he was home all day. My life would be different if I made different choices. I didn't and this is where I am and who I am. No regrets. Keep plugging away and strive to better than the other guy.

Root Beer, Nothing wrong with your accounting degree. If you're going to do anything with it you need to...wait for it...expand on it. Find a specialty in the accounting industry and learn it. I come from a family of very successful CPA's. My father is/was well known in the coporate world and my sister is in the top 100 most financially influential people of 2012, whatever the hell that means.

Raider, If entitlements continue the way they are, than Root Beer is correct in his last statement. If, by some miracle they don't, I believe new economies will create themselves. Just think, If society as a whole had to work, they'd be working. Back to what I mentioned earlier.People don't respect where the food on their table or clothes on their backs came from.

Or they can adapt and change. Maybe they need to learn there is more to life than bookkeeping, educate themselves and change careers. For someone to blame their lack of employment on external influences temporarily is fine. If the unemployment lasts a year or two or three or longer, then it is their own fault and it is because of lack of work ethic and or values. If my industry was replaced by automation, it is then time for me to change, not sit and feel sorry for myself. I am very fortunate to be where I am at career wise with only a H.S. education. I didn't enter my trade until I was 30. At that time I realized I must be doing something wrong. I wanted more than to live paycheck to paycheck.

There will always be a need for qualified technicians to create and repair the new technology. The equipment I work on has changed from mechanical controls to circuit boards and electronic sensors. Some have self diagnostics which lead you in the direction of the fault., some do not. Service guys need to change with the times. Simple as that. Root Beer, Unskilled jobs have been leaving the U.S. for decades. The unskilled labor force is no different than the skilled labor force. Adapt or fail. The issue we have is people think someone owes them a job. Because a 22yo spent 4 years in college, they deserve to start at the top. Or the kid who barely graduated H.S. who feels he is worth more than minimum wage. The immigrants have taken many of the low paying jobs because some have a different work ethic. (There are also those who bleed off the system but that's not what I'm getting to) Starting pay in my trade with a trade school education, an associates degree, or first year union apprentice, ranges from $10-$14 an hour depending where you're located. AND its hard work. Not very attractive to many kids nowadays. Funny story: Our company hired a parts driver last spring which is where most guys start fresh out of trade school who are trying to get sponsored into the union. His trade school said he would get a new van to drive around in. He demanded a new van from our fleet manager first day on the job. Apparently trade school failed to teach him how to interact with his superiors. Take what we give you or take a walk. Because of his disrespect, they gave him a van that had a burned out compressor fall over in the van and the oil spilled everywhere. (A compressor that has had an electrical burnout has an odor that will make your nostrils flare and your eyes water.) We've lost the hard work mentality, whether it be physical or mental. We have lost respect for where we get the food for our table and the clothes on our backs. Or should I say where we get our smartphones and video games. Our schools are not teaching the kids honestly. Giving them misinformation about the real world because, let's face it schools are a business trying to make a profit like everyone else. I hate to say it but people get what they deserve. I'm curious to see how things will pan out over the next 20 years. IMO There are other contributing factors to why things are the way they are. They are not allowed on this forum.

Many of you have seen notifications today via Facebook, text message, internet forum or word of mouth that WOW scheduled for January 26th has been cancelled. Hopefully this communication will help clear up some of the confusion around what has happened and what our next steps are: Here’s what happened: Last night, as some of you have seen or read, there was an incident on Bangs Lake where an ATV went through the ice and emergency personnel responded for rescue. Fortunately, this incident was not fatal…. Which is not to say that anyone involved with ALCF takes these types of events lightly. This morning, a group of WOW representatives went to Bangs Lake to determine ice thickness and identify a reasonable area to safely accommodate the WOW derby. We found significant deviations in ice thickness and were working to define a safe area to hold the derby. Shortly before noon today (January 25th) we were notified via phone call, and subsequently via written communication by the City of Wauconda that our Special Event Permit had been nullified. It was at this point in time that we made the decision to cancel tomorrow’s scheduled event. All of these events happened while I was either on the Lake, or in my vehicle. We cannot, for safety, insurance and legal reasons hold this event without a proper permit. What are we doing: We are working diligently to reschedule this event. The reason we hold this event is that we like to ice fish just as much as you do! Please have patience and we will keep you up to date as soon as information is available. It will take us more than a few hours to figure this one out. For those of you that preregistered, your registration will be valid for the rescheduled event. I would ask that you keep in mind that this is an event we put a significant amount of time, energy, and effort into organizing to support the Andrea Lynn Cancer Fund. Let’s face it…. Cancer sucks and ALCF exists to support families in our community that are in need of support. Our goal has always been to hold a safe event that helps benefit a great cause. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we sort out the details and work to reschedule the 9th Annual Walk on Water event.

Walk on Water Jan 26th CANCELLED ATTENTION: Due to circumstances beyond our control - W.O.W. has been cancelled. As some of you know, last night a couple of ATV’s went through the ice at Bangs Lake. While most of you were out fighting the morning commute - we had a small team of guys drilling holes working diligently to mark questionable areas so that we could continue with Walk on Water. Though their efforts were diligent, the Village of Wauconda pulled the permits for W.O.W. Between the ATV going through the ice and the news of a body being recovered at a nearby lake the Village made a decision on the side of safety. Though this is tough on us, we support it. We apologize for the inconvenience, and we will follow up with more details on this event and cancellation date . Thanks for your understanding.

I wasn't looking at gear, but at the Quantum booth a guy named Dave Lindner(no relation to Al or James) has some discount cards for one of the retailers. $80 Quantum rods are selling @ I think he said 2 for $40. Quantum is also giving away samples of KVD line conditioner. Illiana Bassmasters has a $2 raffle to win a 16' Tracker. Beers are $7 and parking is free. Ike is a good speaker. I saw him at Rosemont either last year or the year before.
