  9. The article says they eat other shrimp. Doesn't say if they eat them exclusively, or with a plankton side dish.

Alrighty then. I will fish them the same as I do a swimjig. With a paddletail trailer. I was worried something too big would screw up the action.

Do you use a trailer or not? If so, what type or style? I'd guess anything bulky would affect the retrieve.
  12. That hurts just looking at it.
  13. Of course they can. Much depends on where the fish is bleeding from. I have read mortality rate on a tongue or gut hooked bass is 50%, gill hooked is 25%. Every tongue hooked bass I've brought to weighin has died. I wouldn't worry to much.I posted in another thread. Animals and fish have extrordinary healing powers.
  14. So you need a 3lb average to be in the money. A 2lb average with a 6lb kicker isn't in the money. Again, How well do you know the water? I advise you to learn new spots or new presentations since the old ones are only working on smaller fish.
  15. This How well do you know the water? Your larger than average bass aren't going to be as easy to catch as the average ones. This applies to you and your competition. BUT, if the competition knows the water better than you, the cards are now stacked against you. In the tourneys I fish, bass are roughly the same average as you mentioned 2-3lbs. You need to know where you can get a limit, and you need to know where to get a kicker. If you spend all day looking for the kicker you may never find the limit.
  16. Yes we did. This was the OP's reply. He doesn't want to drive far. Figured a monster smallie within driving distance would satisfy his need. We all know a 7lb smallie would be a better fight than a 10lb green bass anyday.
  17. I've been proud of things I've laid, but an egg was never one of them.
  18. Head to Lake Michigan. Make and break a goal for a 7lb smallie
  19. A good whack to the head solves that problem. Much easier to fillet a dead fish. I have heard they do not feel pain in their mouth/jaw area, only pressure. Fish/animals have some pretty amazing healing powers. Humans probably would too if we weren't a bunch of whiners. I have caught multiple fish missing chunks from pike/musky attacks. Plenty of bass with weak and broken jaws from bad catch and release moments. Fish with lampreys attached to them. Fish with tumors or abscess' growing out of them. Fish missing eyes or fins. They have all lived to fight another day. There is a mortality rate to this sport. We as anglers can gain knowledge to reduce the mortality. The other option is the deep fryer.
