I'd say, for me, any large saltwater fish or shark. It would have to be casting or jigging though. Trolling takes the fun out of it for me. There is nothing like a 25lb+ king salmon hitting a crankbait on bass gear. The initial hit is like hooking the bumper of a Mack truck speeding down the highway. I can only imagine a 100lb+ tarpon, shark, or billfish doing the same.

When in doubt, set the hook. Always try to keep a little tension on the line. Bass like to pick them up and swim with them. Watch your line. As far as fishing them, try hopping them, dragging them, swimming them, or whatever seems to work on that particular day. Nothing is set in stone.

My son does well with them texas rigged, in Big Texan color. I don't believe he uses them as a trailer though. Mostly shallow water fishing timber, riprap, weeds, docks, and sea walls

Update Thanks everyone, Spoke to him today. He's not enjoying not smoking. They caught it early enough and whatever they did in the hospital prevented something more serious from happening.

It's a tough gig. I'm in my mid 40's and my body is shot. Had a couple surguries, knees are bad, so on and so forth. I talked my son out of the trades because I don't want to see him end up like me. I can't say if I was right or wrong, it's just how I feel. I want him to have it easier then me. He's in college still not sure what he wants to do, and he's still young and has plenty of time to change his mind if things don't work out. Me on the otherhand, I'm just worn out. Only 20 years til retirement LOL.

Been there. Worked for a mom&pop shop for almost 10 years and was in discussion to buy it from him.(A whole nutha story) That didn't work out. Gave 2 weeks notice. Owner says ok. I head to my first job. He calls 15 minutes later and said it would be best if I leave now. I went home, unloaded my tools from the service truck and drove back to the shop. Owner drove me home and didn't say a word to me for the 1/2 hour drive. I called the new boss, and picked up my new van. Loaded up my tools ready to start the next morning. Fished a tourney on the Chain today and sucked. Caught tons of shorts and weighed in 0. Water temps varied from 75-80 and water is low. Swimjigs, jigs and senkos is what worked.
