  1. Nobody said it was easy. The teaching issue is a subject all it's own. For you to take offense to these comments shows the high reguard you have for the profession, which is commendable. It seems the problem the OP has is in his opinion he feels the teacher is not earning his pay. The frustration of paying 10's of thousands of dollars. He expects more for his money. Now, if Root beer learns whatever "features" or whatever it was he talked about in the original post despite the instructors involvement, or lack there of, Was the money wasted? If Root beer doesn't learn, well obiviously it was the instructors fault. Or was it? If you go out to eat at an Italian restaurant, Do you expect an Italian chef to make your food? When you find out the delicious italian food you just ate was prepared by a mexican, does that change things? The result was the same. My company charges the same hourly rate whether the send a journeyman or an apprentice to a jobsite to complete the work which was requested. Is that fair to the customer? If the job gets completed properly and in a timely manner, does it matter who performs it? The assignment was titled "The school of hard knocks assignment" Sounds to me the instructor has a method to his madness. Maybe this guy is a horrible instructor. I'm not in a position to make that call. Root beer, Remember this. Unskilled labor gets paid for what they do. Skilled labor gets paid for what tthey know. I urge you to become one of those who get paid for what they know. More knowledge= more $$$
  2. What Glenn said. But there's a difference in tools. Snap-on or Made in Taiwan. Any rod, reel, line, lure, electronics, etc. will work. Some just work better than others. Some make the job easier than others. I think the fishermans knowledge and ability to adapt trumps everything else.
  3. What's the difference between red stabil and marine stabil? I've been using red and seafoam for 10 years and haven't had issues.
  4. Beats taking community showers.
  5. A standpipe is a threaded hollow plastic pipe which should screw into the hole on the bottom of the livewell. The pump can run as long as it has a water supply and a charged battery.
  6. Unless I'm in jail or the hospital, I won't watch it.
  7. Looks like he learned how to pose for the pics from you and roadwarrior Nice fish.
  8. I agree there are good and bad in every profession. The issue I have is people who become teachers/professors with limited or no real world experience. Couldn't hack it in the working world, but spent tens of thousands on an education. They justify the expenditure by becoming a teacher. No, I'm not saying all teachers are like this. The same applies to someone who works for 6 months, decides they know everything there is to know about said business and start up there own. Nothing against people trying to better themselves, but chances are they will be unsuccessful. Skilled labor requires skill. There are many different levels of skill. Some people are born with it. Some people can develop it. Some people are clueless. There are also those who are taught incorrectly and can succesfully perform a job incorrectly their entire lives. I'm a skilled tradesman. I have no problem sharing my knowledge with others. I appreciate a person who asks questions. I don't give them the answers, just guidance and suggestions.
  9. Depends how hungry they are. I have caught countless numbers of northern strain small bass on lures that are the same size the fish are. Whether it was a strike out of hunger or aggression, only the fish knows that. My largest bass to date was caught on KY Lake. (Don't know if that's a northern strain lake) A hair under 7lbs caught on a crappie minnow. Guess she wasn't that hungry. Bass are going to eat whatever forage is around, to which they are acustomed to. Otherwise they don't eat. Not like they can go to the fish dept at Piggly Wiggly and order up some baked tilapia. I don't know how many times I have a livewell full of 3-5lb fish and a bunch of tiny crayfish they have spit up. How many times have you caught a fish on a crank or jerkbait and it has another fish in its gullet? They eat when they are hungry. They eat what's available at the time. Striking out of aggression is a different subject. I make these statements having only caught northern strain bass. I can't imagine a bass' feeding behavior is that different in the south
  10. Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. Nevre went to college. Here's what I know. Figure out how those features work. Read up on them, talk with others about them, figure them out. That's what will separate you from the masses when you get out in the real world.(Please don't take that the wrong way) School should teach you the basics. You need to keep an open mind and continue to learn something new everyday of your life. Strive to be the best at whatever you do and you will be successful. As far as the expense of college My son is a college student and the only issue I have is colleges and universities pushing a liberal agenda. Education should be unbiased. Especially if you have to pay for it.
  11. It's personal preference. I use flouro leaders with braid tied with an albright knot. When tied properly, I feel it's the best line to line knot. Mono stretches and is less sensitive. If thats ok with your presentation, by all means use it. There is no one set way to setup your rigs. As far as the palomar knot. IMO the best and easisest knot around. All line will burn if it's not lubricated when you cinch the knot. Spit on the knot before you cinch it down and you'll be good to go.
  12. Yes. A pump needs to be "primed" or "prefilled" for it to work. If there is air in a pump, it will not pump properly.
  13. No plates but I do have titanium screws in my ankle. The only time I'm bothered by them is when I'm on my feet all day long...which is every day. My arthritis is affected by the cold and damp. I have 2 ex coworkers I keep in contact with. One was involved in a motorcycle accident and has plates in his thiegh and he's good for the most part. Another guy I know fell off a roof a week to the day after I fell off the same roof. I tore my hammy. He landed on his elbow and shattered it. He had multiple surgeries, screws and plates to have it rebuilt. He's in his late 50's and the elbow is plagued with arthritis. If you're surgery involves a joint you may be affected more than if it's in a straight bone. Good luck.
  14. A dowel screw may work. It's a screw threaded on both ends which is used on wooden banisters.
  15. I use a leader for 2 reasons. Flouro is more abrasion resistant than braid, and if you get hung up bad, the flouro will let go, braid won't. Make sure you have a good knot. I use an albright knot.
  16. Agreed If you have ever seen a seminar givin by KVD or Ike or any of the big name pros, you'd realize they are on a completely different level then the masses. I beleive I am a good fisherman. I do alright club fishing. I try and learn things everytime I'm on the water or the web to expand my knowledge. Could I ever compete with the likes of KVD or Ike? Probably not. Would I want to? Sure, I'd give it a shot, if for nothing else, to live the experience.
  17. Whatever it is, its value is equal to t**. Funny...Should be plural. 2 is better than 1.
  18. This statement makes zero sense. The only time you shouldn't be catching fish is if you're not fishing.
  19. Do you guys have dishwashing competitions also It's a sickness. Ask her if she "needs" all the shoes, purses, clothing she has in the closet. Touche'
