New Accurist
You caught my attention Brotha! I do have the 2010 Accurist is left hand in the 7.1:1 burner. Comparing it to last years model, the 2010 is lower in profile, it's not as tall as the previous which really bugged me. It looks very similar to the newer Quantums from last year, like the orange Catalyst, Energy. It's just an ounce heavier than said reels but I would think it's due to the flipping switch. The weird thing about the Accurist compared Catalyst and Tour that I have. The spool when the drag and star drag are loosened up, it feels tight. I thought I had a defective one so I had Cabelas send me another & that one does it too. Also the drag, it doesn't state how strong the drag is like the other Quantums, I have to really torque the drag down to keep the spool from turning. The other 2 Quantums don't do that. So I guess that's the difference in price for the quality? I've used the Accurist and it casts real well, not quite in par w/ the latest Shimano Citica but not bad. The Tour Energy I have that thing is butta' & casts crazy far. The new Accurist has the braking system like on the Tour Energy & Catalyst, I don't have to click more than the first one to get good casting. But the Quantums of now compared to the Shimano Curado & Citica, the Quantums are narrower in width & just a tad taller than the Shimanos. But weight wise they are right in the same ballpark. I like my Curado & Citica I just sometimes don't like how wide the are. Reminds me of the Daiwa Advantage HSTLA, that thing felt wide. So I hope I've been helpful about the Accurist. I sometimes go OCD & give TMI & I would think I am not b.s.'ing, but I just LOL at myself or ROTFLOL. ;D

Quantum Catalyst PT Baitcasting reel
The orange reel from last year right, now it's marked down on BPS and/or Cabelas? Very good reel, I have the Burner and it does what it's suppose to do and the centri braking works great. It's lite wait right there w/ the Shimano Curado/Citica. What I like about the Catalyst and that line of Quantums (I have the tour and this years new Accurist) is the body is low profile and it isn't as wide feeling as the Curado/Citica. Smooth reel and it has good pulling power, I think it's like 18-19 lbs. If you can get the Catalyst on sale, then it's great bargain. I really am happy w/ mine.

BPS Carbonlite Rods-Great!
Saw that the new Carbonlite rods are on sale online. So I made a copy of the sale and too a drive to the BPS store. I found the Carbonlite rods and I really liked the look and it is very light. I compared the 6'9" MH Carbonlite to the Abu Garcia 6'9" MH Vendetta casting rods. The Carbonlite was lighter and more eye appeal for, the sensitivity is great and the new guides looks sweet. I then the 7'2" M spinning rod & compared it to the Vendetta 7' M rod. The Carbonlite being a bit longer was still lighter than the Vendetta spinning rod. You pick up both and the Vendetta spinning rod feels like pig compare to the lightness of the Carbonlite. I took the 6'9" MH Carbonlite rod w/ a new 2010 Quantum Accurist b/c reel for a test run today. I didn't catch any bass but the huge shads were in there & I snagged a few. The shads put up a great fight when foul hooked. The Carbon lite rod is very sensitive and it is sweet to look at. I bought both rods mentioned since they are all on sale for $70, even the 100+ ones were $70. I am so thinking of adding a couple more, that's how much I like them. The new foam handle is not like other foam handle/grip. It feels firmer for a foam grip and it feel great too. No problem at all it it was very comfortable to hold on to. I think BPS hit a winner w/ this line of rods. I just wish they would come out w/ a Carbonlite b/c reel in left hand. The new gold JM b/c reel looks awesome & will maybe get one during the spring classic sale.

Series One
Good rods for the price, but now that other mfg's are coming out w/ rods in pretty much the same price range; it's okay. Check out the new Abu Garcia Vendetta & next year Lamiglas is coming out w/ a U.S. made rod for under $100 & it's split grip. The Vendetta has better guides on for the same price for a Series One.

New Quantum Accurist
Anyone has tried it or seen it? From the pics on TW, it's sleeker, lighter, much more lower profile & comes in 2 speeds...plus left hand! Any opinions??? I wouldn't mind upgrading the handle to a 2009 Catalyst or "maybe" even the carbon TE handle.

BPS Now Has AG Vendetta Rods!
I just perused the BPS online site & very surprised to see the Vendetta rods at the retail price. They have all the lengths & power, don't know if they have them in store or if they are NOW available online. But it's nice to see BPS carry this line of rods. Now I have something to look forward to when I visit BPS next week....hopefully they have the Vendetta rods in.

The Quantum® Tour Edition® PT Baitcast Reel
I have the Curado E7 & 2009 Quantum Tour Edition, both in left hand. I gotta tell you that the TE has really impressed me. The price came down a bit cuz Quantum is coming out w/ there 2010 baitcast reels in 150 size. Comparing the E7 & the TE, the E7 is a bit wide but low profile. To me it's a great reel & smooth. The wider length does bother me a bit it's not all tha comfortable. The TE isn't as wide in length & much more compact & holds 135 yds or 12 lb line. That's all the line I need, I don't need 140-150 yds of line on my spool. I thought the E7 was smooth the TE is really smooth. I poo-pood the idea of buying an expensive Quantum, I already have the 2009 7.1:1 Catalyst & like it. Well the TE is alot smoother than the Catalyst, also has a swept carbon handle. Also the fact that Quantum reels are made in China. The TE has really impressed me, I didn't think that a reel like that could be better in feel & retrieve than a Shimano or Daiwa...but it's that good. The drag is awesome, lots of power! The non handle side has not bothered me as mentioned on Tackletour. It does not stick out all that much as they say it does. I am guessing the reviewers for TT, they have small hands. I really didn't like paying that much more for the TE over the E7 but after a few times using both, the TE has won me over. Only time will tell whether this reel will hold up. I have last years Quantum Energy b/c reel & that thing is a pig! The 2009 Quantum b/c reels are so much better in all around performance.

Daiwa Fuego->TDZ Body?
Thanks Raul! But do the bodies of the Fuego & TDZ the same size? I know the Fuego & Zillion are similar but the Zillion is just a bit bigger due to the bigger gear.
-
Daiwa Fuego->TDZ Body?
I've not held a TDZ b/c reel before but have seen pics & the bodies on both the Fuego & TDZ look very similar. I know the inner workings & weight are very different but the bodies the same size?

Daiwa Sol B/C Handle Replacement
Point me in the right direction for a replacement handle for my left hand Sol. The handle on this reel is "ok" & it does the job, but after seeing some great aftermarket handles for other Daiwa b/c reels, I wouldn't mind going that route for my Sol. Would a Zillion handle work, but would I also need a new star? What carbon handles are available? What other options do I have?

High End Left Hand Baitcast Reels?
It's late & I'm having brain farts...& 3 Taco Bell bean burritos... Name mfg & reel models that come in a left hand crank baitcast reel. Could be previous years or more current ones. I can only think of a few, like over $250...but 4 Sam Adams Summer Ale has clouded my mined & slowed down brain cells at 1:15 am, can't think too well what's avail in high end left hand b/c reels.

New Abu Garcia Vengeance Rod
Micro, deeper orange color on the Vengeance? I think I know & have a reel that should match up quite nicely in a low profile. The 2009 Quantum Catalyst is a deeper orange color than the Daiwa Sol. The Catalyst "almost" reminds me of a burnt orange color. I have a couple Carrot Stix that I thought would match the Sol but not close, even the Catalyst is off on the other side of the spectrum. Oldschool, very nice combo you have there. Hope you get many years of fun service of that combo!

Quantum PT Superlight B/C Rod

St Croix LTB 7' MH B/C Rod Other Uses?
This is the Sweeper Spinnerbait model. Besides what it's tech specific for...spinnerbaits, can this rod do other duties like T-rigs, Carolina rigs, jigs, Senkos, buzzbait, swimbaits??? I do have this rod & I find it to be quite tip heavy, is this something you guys also experience? Is this a good thing for this rod length or should I look at other mfg's in a 7' MH model?

Abu Garcia Vengeance Guides
What kind of guides are on the Vengeance rods? Are they black colored chrome or ceramics?

Abu Garcia Revo S
Looking to getting this baitcast reel, just wanted some input from you guys that own or have used one. Looking for the one w/ the X-Craftic frame, is there a way to tell which one of the Revo S from last year to this year has the X-Craftic frame? How does it perform compared to other brand of reels around the same price....Citica E? Best uses or is it an all around type of reel?
-
Abu Revo's-Where Are They Made?
I was looking at the Revo S-L, found out that it's made in China...oh well. But what is different about the X-Craftic(sp?) frame, how is it any better than an aluminum frame? I'll probably pick up the newer Revo S-L w/ the X-Craftic frame soon & next year during the reel trade-in at BPS, I'll get the new 2010 Revo Premier. I would like to add the Revo Skeet Reese but that's way down the ways....

Abu Revo's-Where Are They Made?
2009-2010 Premier, STX, SX, S...just wondering.

Top Heavy Rods Need Heavier Reel???
I've been pondering this about hearing a rod that's top heavy, rods especially baitcasters & using a reel say under 7.5-8 oz would still make a rod top heavy. I am thinking rods that are 7' & over would be considered top heavy in some mfg/models? So a heavier baitcast reel like over 8 oz to 10 oz would balance out a top heavy rod, right? I do have a St Croix LTB 7' MH Spinnerbait b/c rod & to me it does feel top heavy, even the 6'10" MH Cabelas XMLTi b/c rod I have feels top heavy. I mount my Zillion reel that's 8.5 oz or Shimano Chronarch 101B 9.0 oz or last years Quantum Energy at 9.5 oz on either of these rods & the heavier reel does feel more balanced on these rods. I throw on a new 2009 Quantum Tour Edition 7.5 oz or Shimano Chronarch MG51 b/c reels & the rods don't feel not balanced. Is that the idea, a heavier reel for top heavy rods? I don't really like adding weights to the end of rods to make them feel balanced, like rods that have built in weight systems. It makes the rod feel heavier even after putting on a light reel.

Backlash problem on Curado DPV
I bought the same reel last week & noticed that it does backlash a bit more than my other Shimano b/c reels. I am using 20(6) Power Pro w/ half the spool backed w/ 10 lb mono. I use 3 pink stock brakes. I may try & use 3 green brakes & see if that improves. I may switch to 30(8) braid...maybe 20(6) is just too light for this reel. I'm using the 20(6) braid so I can get my cranks deeper w/ the thinner line.

Thinking Outside The Box-Painting Cork Handles Black?
A crazy idea just hit me, is it possible to paint cork handles black; if so what kind of paint or stain would I need? Also you think painting the cork will it void the warranty on the rod from the mfg? I guess I'm getting tired of seeing my cork split-grips looking crappy from all the dirt & stuff. I clean them & they get dirty again. I did get some U40 cork stuff.

Which Powell Baitcast Rod?
Thanks for the great info! I'll be for surely ordering one this coming Monday...take advantage of the 15%. It seems to have all what I'm looking for especially the Fuji ECS reel seat. I have a Falcon Cara 6'10" MH finesse jig rod & it has the ACS, nice but not as comfortable as the ECS. Glad to know it has Alconite guides. I have a Shimano Cumara 6'8" M/XF, 1/4-1/2 oz b/c rod, I wonder if the Powell 683C MH is stiffer?
-
Which Powell Baitcast Rod?
Okay, I'm looking at the 683, 6'8" MH Powell rod. I went on the Powell website & it does not say what kind of guides are on the Powell bass rods. Also is the reel seat a Fuji ECS?
-
Which Powell Baitcast Rod?
I'm looking for to add "ONE" more casting rod & thinking of a Powell. Which Powell casting rod do you own & what do you use it for & how do you like it? Do your Powell compare to what other rod mfg?

SCORE! Abu Garcia Vendetta Rod From Tacklewarehouse
Won't know how I like the rod, it's backordered till 9/16 and be delivered to my house on the 23rd; that's the only downside so far. I got my email invoice & it states $59.96. Also it doesn't say what the warranty is for the Vendetta rod so I called TW today & asked them. They had to call Abu Garcia to get the answer & it's a 3 year warranty. Not bad for a rod that's $80.
