Bates Hundo 5.0 Casting Reel
Got the Hundo! Left hand and knobs are interesting. Gummy solid feel. Not sure if I like, it doesn't seem to go with the reels aesthetics. 5oz(142gm) on the nose, and spool 10gms. Mounted the Hundo on my Phenix MBX 7' MH and on Phenix M1 Vortex 7'2" MH. Feels balanced on either rod. It's very light, like in BFS light weight range. As mentioned, drag clicker with nice sound and feel. Very smooth and it's a work of art like the Shimano Metanium MGL 151. I got the 7.1 gear ratio. I spooled with Power Pro Super Slick 8, 30lb braid moss green with mono backing. Frame is stunning but does not state country of origin. Odd.

Bates Reels!?
I know old post. I ordered the Bates Hundo today from TW 20% email Dale. Price dropped down to $300 before tax. I'm hoping to have it by end of this week. I'll weigh the Hundo and find out if the claim to 5oz is for real. The Hundo has intrigued me since I heard of it after last summer. I wonder if this reel with ne a Shimano Metanium killer. I have that reel and it is a masterpiece of fishable art.

TW 20% Off Sale!
Just placed my order for the Bates Hundo Reel. Bates Reels are not on the exclusions list but when I put in my cart, it was still regular price. I called TW and asked what's up. Rep said that after you place order, the discount will apply. I did that placed order and discount price came up. Rep said that if discount after placing order does does apply, call them and they will manually adjust. Rep also mentioned that items like Bates Reels will not show discount in cart even if you have the 20% email. It only shows after order is placed. Whew! Been wanting the Hundo since Icast last year!

Opinions on Phenix Ultra MBX rods
Hey FrnkNsteen, I reckon that the older one I mentioned. Can you take a pic w/o the reel on it? The handle is reminiscent of the Gloomis Wiebe handle.

Opinions on Phenix Ultra MBX rods
If it's the MBX from a couple generations, then you got yourself a great bargain! Is this the model with a slight hump on the handle? If so, the reel sits slightly lower on the rod. I bought the 2023/2024 MBX in 7' MH and it is a very nice rod.

BFS Rod Recommendations
Check out the Phenix Classic BFS rods. I have the 6'8" and 7'1" casting rods. Also comes in a 7'4" casting rod.

Your BFS Set Up ?
Hi PhishLi, I also have the 13 Muse Black 6'10" ML. It's a very good rod and I like the looks of it too. I bought it from TW from there last 15% sale w/ free 13 Fishing Blackout rod. Now that was a good buy! Anyway, the Muse Black ML, I'll mount any of my BFS reels and it will be great for bottom contact plastics.

New Berkley Krej
It's a copy of bigger version of the Jackall Riser Bait 007. I am interested cuz the Riser does skim on top of the water, but I would like a bigger(the Krej) version than a finesse version.

Concocted Up A Couple BFS Lures - Fingers Crossed They Work
Dual BFS swimbait rig. Actually it's an old Roadrunner Reality Shad Buffet Rig. I threw on the paddle tails instead of the chubby Crappie bodies that were stock to this rig. Bottom swimbait is 1/8oz jighead and top is 1/16oz jighead. Surprisingly, this dual rig casts good and far, also when reeling in; it swims vertical. Like the heavier jig is on the bottom and lighter jig is on top, perpendicular to each other...as long as you do a steady retrieve and don't burn it in. I have 2 or 3 spares of these rigs. I may try it out with a 1/8oz and 1/16oz chatterbaits. I can only imagine how much vibration it'll throw off. Hopefully it'll swim correctly. Or I may figure out how to rig with a couple BFS crankbaits or minnows. I see much potential in this dual rig! I haven't thrown this rig in years and forgot I had it in my pack. When the weather warms up, I think this will be bitchin' fish catchin' rig to use! Here's the chatterbait rig I just did up. 1/8oz on bottom, 1/16 oz on top. Total weight 3/8oz. Another hair brain idea for a BFS type lure. Not sure what the weedless drop shot hook is. I added a small split shot on the middle bottom( super glued the split shot so it stays in place) for I'm hoping a horizontal fall with soft plastic. That's a Lake Fork Live Baby Shad, 2.25". I can also try a Zoom Tiny Fluke 3", and a Zoom Salty Super Fluke 4". The 1st pic with the 2.25" baby shad weighs at 1/8oz. With all 3 shad bodies, I should be able to cast the distance I want and get the sink rate to mimic a dying small shad when I shake twitch the rod. I'll have to wait till this coming weekend to give it a go.

Saw a new bait
Hey Franknsteen, use that lure now that it's butt cold there. The cold may stiffen the Ti wire so it won't be so flimsy. 😉😁😄 I think I slapped on a paddle tail when I used it. Same deal though, the Ti wire didn't do justice to the lure.

Saw a new bait
Doesn't work. I bought one, the flexible wire bends too much and fouls up, also it spins more when reeled. It's not stable at all. I guess it's more for bottom contact, where it's bounced on the bottom and the blade has a bit of flash.

2024 Bass Pro Shops Master Catalog?
I've been looking on BPS online to order the 2024 master catalog. It's not there, only like 4 catalogs and saltwater catalog is 2024. Anyone know if there will be a 2024 master catalog?

Nice! I have to wait till April/May this year to get the Expride 6'8" Light casting rod, I piece. All places are sold out. I was able to get the Curado light 6'8" casting rod to match up with my Curado BFS reel.

Lures You Used More this Year
Bass Pro Shops The Egg, super shallow crankbait; either size. Caught most of my bass either waking or running just foot under water. Now they are discontinued. So glad I have a good Supply of both sizes in Different colors.
