I Have A Shimano Conquest BFS & Expride BFS (JDM) Taste, But I Have An Aliexpress Budget (CDM)
Reel: Kawa Sabre JKS 51(left) Rod: Catch.U Fire Dance, 5'9",1/8-5/8oz lure weight. Not the most prettiest or most refined, but it gets the job done. The Kawa round reel is no Conquest BFS, it's not as light, it is geary and not as smooth. Magentic braking is a bit light, magnets not that strong. I did change out the stock handle to one that suits my liking. The Catch.U rod is not sensitive, it can cast a 1/8oz trout spoon well and the handle is a bit long'ish in length, wish it was a bit shorter and the rod blank a bit longer. I don't think I'll be casting any lure over 3/8oz with this rod. I know I can eventually afford the Conquest/Expride setup, if I save my pennies but for the time being; this cheap, less than $100 setup gets me by. I think owning that setup will probably scare me that I can scratch the reel or break the rod. That would so break my heart.? The setup is actually quite nice looking it handles catching bass and trout swimmingly. If either fails or breaks, I know I didn't spend a lot of money for both. I also wanted the chance to try out BFS fishing with a smaller round reel. So, BFS fishing doesn't have to be all that expensive to have fun fishing lighter lures. I prefer BFS over spinning gear lately. My hand holding the rod gets fatigued, I don't know why. But I don't have that problem fishing BFS casting gear.

BFS?
I Do fish BFS. It's been a blast using this technique instead of a spinning outfit. BFS rod and reel doesn't have to be expensive to catch fish.

Phenix Feather rods
I have the 7'1" Heavy casting Feather. Love the rod, just the lure rating is odd. 1/4oz to 2 oz??? Heaviest lure I'll throw is 1oz and lightest 3/8oz. Great rod, also have the 7'1" Light for BFS.

A Caught Trout Catches A BIG Bass!
Here's my reply to a post from another site, most intriguing. "XXX" exactly that the trout is more nutritious for a bass, especially a bigger bass. I've only seen videos or read that a bass will feed on a trout head first. I actually witnessed that happening when that bass ate the trout. Once I eased the trout out of the weeds, the bass was in position to attack the trout head first. The trout was close to shore and the water was clear to see it all go down. Feeding line when the bass got the trout, I didn't spook the bass (talk about having patience doing this!) to letting go of the trout. When I set the hook, all I felt was a huge pull and the drag clicker going nuts! I tightened the drag enough to fight the bass. The trout was gone, not I'm not sure if the trout got away or if as quick as it can; the bass swallowed the trout. My small 1/8 oz Rapala Countdown was embedded inside the mouth of the bass with both treble hooks dug in, that bass was surely hooked! The week before, I did catch another trout that did get the attention of another bass. That bass did take that trout head first (first time ever witnessing that), but 2 things were against me. I was then using a small trout jig with a single hook and I set the hook too quick. I didn't get a good hook set with a small single hook on the bass and it spit the trout out and also lost the bass. The trout did come unhook close to shore and swam off injured. A minute later not too far from me, I saw a huge splash; so that bass that had the trout came back and ate that trout! I did during the week bring my swimbait rod and a few trout swimbait and glide baits. I just couldn't mimic the stressed reaction of a hooked trout to get the interest of any bass. The bass would come to investigate my swimbait or glide bait and swim off...it's probably thinking...fake. Most incredible fishing experience I've witnessed while bass fishing.

A Caught Trout Catches A BIG Bass!
I done caught a 9-10lb bass! I didn't have my scale, left it in the car. I sent the pics to a friend and he said that bass is 9-10lbs. Look at it compared to my shoe! I used my ultralight BFS rod and reel with a 1/8oz Rapala Countdown minnow in gold color. I wear a size 11 shoe. Bought a new double spool, with shallow BFS spool, Doviello casting reel from Amazon. Used my Abu Garcia Volatile medium light casting rod. I caught a trout, brought it close to shore, then a bass approached the trout and I waited till it took the trout. I gave it a few seconds then set the hook. Lost the trout but that bass had my lure deep in its mouth. Fought the bass for a few minutes to tire it out, did a few jumps that scared me of losing it. Landed the bass with people behind me. I actually used a live caught trout to catch a bass! Never would have thought that would ever happen! I actually had a trout and bass caught together for a few seconds! I had to sit down for a few minutes after releasing the bass, my legs were shaking!?????????? Caught one other trout later after that fun bass catch!

Tatula 100, Tatula CT and Fuego CT PSA
Thank you again Tatulatard! I took one of my TD Zillion and the TD Fuego and swapped the spools. I'm happy to say that the spool swap worked! All these years, I did not even thought that the TD Zillion and TD Fuego used the same spool size. Thank you for posting the BFS spool for the TD Zillion. I'll be ordering o e spool for my TD Zillions and TD Fuego in black to switch out with which TD reel I want to use for BFS. I feel I have new life for those TD reels! Thank you again! Now...if I can find a shallow BFS spool for my Shimano Curado 51E....

Tatula 100, Tatula CT and Fuego CT PSA
Tatulatard, I have a Tatula CT 100 in left hand and I bought a Ray's Studio BFS shallow spool last year. After reading what you said, I pulled that reel and my Coastal 150 in left hand, and installed the BFS spool in the Coastal SV 150. Well what do you know, the BFS spool fits and works in the Coastal SV 150! So cool that I can now use the Coastal 150 as a BFS configuration. So, if I end up getting the Coastal SV TW 80 in the near future, any idea which BFS spool will work with this reel? Thank you for giving me the thought to use the BFS spool from my Tatula CT 100 on my Coastal SV 150.

Tatula 100, Tatula CT and Fuego CT PSA
Is there a shallow(BFS) spool for the Coastal 150? Or which other Daiwa shallow spool fit and work on the Coastal 150?

Has the SLX MGL been around long enough to call it “Proven”?
Why Yes
-
Shimano SLX MGL & SLX XT, The Same Frame???
Ok, but are the spools interchangeable with either reel?

BFS Rod Dobyns, Phenix or Cashion
I have the newer Phenix Classic BFS in 6'8" casting rod. I did compare to a Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse in 6'9" Light. The Phenix was lighter and aesthetics were nicer to me than the Dobyns. It casts 1/16 to 1/4oz lures wonderfully. The Phenix is very sensitive, I can feel the vibrations from spoons, spinners and small cranks nicely. I have it paired with a Kastking Kestrel Elite baitcast reel, and combo with is at 7oz.

Help with glide bait options
Check out BPS XPS Swerve glide bait. 3.1 oz, a few different colors. And it's $17.99. I bought one to try out, seems interesting and not too expensive. I got the bone color, if I like it; I want to get either the foil'd shad or clearwater shad color.

Pencil poppers
Cotton Cordell Pencil in 5"(3/4 oz) works great. Rotating front swivel and it casts far. I've had crazy hard blowups using the Cotton Cordell. Loud rattle too! Both treble hooks are heavy duty, I don't know who makes them but I don't need to change out those trebles. I've also use this as a popper and have been slammed that way too. The bass I've caught stay pinned when I use this pencil versus some other walk the dog lures.

Just Ordered Daiwa Tatula SV 70...Questions
I ordered the 7.1:1 gear ratio for an all around reel. I do have some questions about this reel. 1. Zero adjuster knob for spool tension. Am I able to turn the knob to adjust for lure weight, or should I leave it at factory setting? 2. I mostly use braid, Power Pro braid. Should I spool with with 20 or 30 lb braid? I will have backing first. 3. Which action for a casting rod should I use? Medium or medium heavy power? 4. Any idea what lure weights I can cast? from 1/8 oz to 5/8oz? Or what weight range are you using your SV 70?

Lew's Baitcasting Handle Shaft Size Question
Howdy, Just picked up a new Lew's Pro SP, 8.3:1 left baitcast reel. I'd like to switch out the handle with a graphite handle. I'm not sure what the handle shaft size is. Are Lew's baitcast reel shaft 8x5mm or 7x4mm?
