  1. Just ordered the SG8 100 in 7.3:1 left hand thru TW black Friday sale. Looking forward to trying this reel out. With the reel handle on the "correct" side of the reel ?. I've held the right hand version and liked it and tried dry reeling at shop.
  2. Agree on the ML action. I have the 7'1" Light and use a Curado BFS reel. I do go up on lure weight to 3/8 oz and works great. But for the applications you want to use and the reel choices, the Feather 7'1" ML should fit the bill.
  3. I have the 7' Heavy, 1-4oz, bought this for similar purpose what you had in mind. I had more in mind for up to 4oz topwater lures and a length not too cumbersome trying to cast at a park lake. https://www.basspro.com/shop/en/offshore-angler-gold-cup-inshore-casting-rod-100828865
  4. Any ya'll own either reel? Does the SV spool make that much of a difference? The Tatula 80 seems to hold just a bit more line than the Tatula SV 70. And weight of both reels are the same. Is one better at paling than the other? From the 2 Tatulas, which of the 2 is comparable to the Shimano Metanium MGL?
  5. Berkley Lightnin' Rod has a 6' pistol grip rod, rated 1/4-5/8oz. I have one and used a few times for light setup.
  6. I have a Shimano Calcutta 51, the reel seat im not be able to mount the reel on most of my baitcast rods cuz of slop. What I mean is the reel will slightly move sideways on the reel seat. I've tried adding electrical tape to the slightly narrow reel foot. This kina helps but the reel still moves when reeling. Is there an aluminum or something I can slide onto the reel foot, front and back to stop the side to side wobble? I love this little reel, I've had it since 2005 and it's now a classic.
  7. The Stogie Calcutta! If they had a left handed one back in the day...
  8. Mine would be and still own, all bought new in box: 1. 2020 Shimano Metanium MGL 151HG(bought brand new this past August 2022) 2. 2003 Shimano Calcutta TE 101GT 3. 2010 Daiwa Zillion Type R 100HSHLR
  9. NOOOOOOO!!!! I live in SoCal. Guess I'll be moving back to the Midwest way before then.
  10. 3/4oz Cotton Cordell Pencil
  11. You know there are 4 brake pads on the spool. You'll need to watch a youtube video on how to take off side plate. It's not like other baitcast reels to take off side plate. I have 2 of the inner brakes on and 2 off. I've not had a real bad backlash with the Metanium.
  12. Ah, but do you say "worsh"(wash)? That hurts my ears...
  13. How do you fish. Bass oreno?
  14. I've thrown swimbaits, and glides baits now and then and have not caught a bass on one, till earlier this evening. Used a 1oz Ima glide bait, swam it, did quarter turns on the handle and also did twitches. This lure casts far, it does helicopter but I added a split ring and swivel to lessen the line twist. I did swim it and after a couple twitches....BAM! Hooked a nice 2-3lb bass! Notice the stripes on its side, looks to me like a Florida strain largemouth. Both the size 4 Owner table hooks pinned the bass real good. Now I have confidence with glide baits and will be pulling out my other 1oz Ima and G-Ratt glides. How do you guys fish your glide baits? I noticed the bass were not hitting my shallow crankbaits, so this time around I switched it up and it paid off! I gotta say, that was fun!
  15. Looking to pulling the trigger and getting one in left hand, probably in 7.1:1 gear ratio. Those who own this reel, what are your thoughts? What is comparable to Shimano?
  16. I still have one of the original TD Fuego casting reel in left hand from 2005, also the TD Sol from same year.
  17. The M1 Vortex Heavy in my opinion is a more versatile rod than the MH. Also the Heavy has more backbone for setting hooks. I think the MH would be good for cranks and topwater which I also tried and I got very good distance.
  18. Frnknsteen, I now both thr 7'2" M1 I. H and MH. The H feels more like a true MH.
  19. Shimano Metanium MGL 151 HG, 7.1 gear ratio. Phenix M1 Vortex, 7'2" MH rod. So light and the Metanium MGL is as smooth as others have said. This reel palms quite nice. It's a little taller than the Curado MGL 71 I have. This is such a beautiful baitcast reel! The M1 Votex is stunning to look at and very light in weight and feel, very good sensitivity with various lures. Not sure if I buy into the Metanium MGL since its frame is all one piece Hagane that it is sensitive too. I do use 20 lb Power Pro Super8Slick V2. I may bump up to 30lb Super8Slick V2. This is a combo I've been wanting for a long time, finally pulled the trigger and gifted myself.
  20. WRB, so KVD line conditioner is a different formula from Reel Magic? All this time I thought they were the same thing just name swapping.
  21. Specifically carbon fiber baitcast reels. Using reel magic for mono, fluoro or copoly on a carbon fiber reel, will Reel Magic weaken, warp or somehow damage this kind of reel body?
  22. I have those lures. Good but not great. The tend to not run true if you crank too fast, but it does have a nice wake. Somewhat light in weight and does not cast all that well, will helicopter at times. Check out Bass Pro Shops The Egg. Comes in 2 sizes and both cast very well with the bigger 3/4 oz one, casts far. Both wake really good and excellent 1' or less shallow crankbait. I've caught many bass with both sizes either waked, subsurface or cranked under a foot. If you do get the Egg, change out the hooks to size 4 short shank trebles or the bigger Egg in size 3 or 4 short shank trebles. I use either VMC short shank trebles or Mustad KVD short shank treble hooks.
  23. This is what I do, no backing. After the braid is on the spool, at knot area, I'll put down a small strip of electrical tape to keep braid from slipping.
