Cast Control Knob On Baitcast Reels Question
I've used braid for quite a few years & am now starting to go to mono, more like P-line CXX. I keep the star drag loose when I'm not using a particular b/c reel, so the washers don't get compressed too much. But since I'm starting to use mono & winter is amongst us(ice on top of the water), I keep the b/c & spinning reels drags loose. Now the problem I am running into w/ some of the b/c reels that I have 10 or 12 lb CXX is that since I keep the star drag loose, the line will spin on the spool easily & start coming undone. Now, can I keep the cast control knob on tighter than the star drag to keep tension on the spool, so the line doesn't unravel? I don't think that there are any washer like on the star drag that can get compressed & get ruined. Am I right about this, or should I keep the cast control knob loose also?

Curado E7/Citica E/Chronarch B For Musky Fishing???
I asked a few days ago if the Citica D would be okay to use for musky fishing. Now how using the new Curado & Citica & Chronarch B's for musky fishing? The new Curado's & Citica's are much smaller than the D's & the Chronarch B's seem that it has the "guts" to handle this type of fishing. I know I could get the Curado 301D, but I don't like the gear ratio & extra weight of this reel. And the new Abu Toro's are heavy & too much money. I want to use said reels for lighter musky tackle for spring time. What's your thoughts????

Baitcast Rod's Line Weight Question
I'm using 8 lb P-line CXX, would that make a difference in strength in using an 8 lb line w/ the rod specs I mentioned? I understand that CXX is some pretty tough line. I use 8 lb CXX for crankbaits/topwater & jerkbaits.

Baitcast Rod's Line Weight Question
A b/c rods line weight is 10-20 lbs, I should be able to use 8 lb line on this rod; right?

Cabela's XMLti Baitcast Rods
Any of you guys tried this rod out, any good? It seems to be the least expensive of the Recoil guide rods. I've been wanting to try a rod w/ Recoil guides & just wasn't sure if the XMLti blanks are any good compared to like a Shimano or others. How is the sensitivity & overall rod? I'm looking at the 6'10" MH b/c rod for mono line jig & worm fishing. I like the 6'10" length, seems to be more of an all around type of rod for me. Thanks

Wanted: Daiwa Sol Baitcast Spool

2 New Rods & 2 New Reels
Just got the Zillion rod the other night & have not tried it out. It is 6'9" MH & the Carrot Stix I have is of the same specs. BUT the Zillion is much stiffer or extra fast than the Carrot Stix. Forgot to mention that I also have the new 2009 Curado E & Citica E in left hand. Got them three weeks ago, I had them on order since end of Sept. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!! We're doing something different this year & having a turdukhen. Heard of that before??? You have a boneless duck on the bottom, then stuffing; then a boneless chicken, then stuffing, & then a boneless turkey that has all that inside. The turkey legs stay on the bird....can't wait to taste this!!!

Exposed Baitcst Reel Seat VS Non Exposed B/C Reel Seat
I have 1 baitcast rod that has a non exposed reel seat, all the other baitcast rods I own have an exposed reel seat, so the non exposed is old school. I haven't used the non exposed reel seat in quite a long time. The newer like the Cumara, Zillion, Carrot Stix, Kistler & Falcon have been taking over! I haven't used the non exposed reel seat rod in sometime. Made me wonder how much of a difference does the exposed reel seat is. With the non exposed one, wouldn't you still feel the sensitivity from the rod? I know that alot of swimbait rods, salmon & musky baitcast rods have non exposed reel seats, so sensitivity isn't as important?

2 New Rods & 2 New Reels
Life is good when the local fishing store has a 20% storewide sale day after Thanksgiving...well since the sales guy knows me, he let me buy what I wanted today. I bought a 6'9" MH Zillion b/c rod, to go w/ the 7.1:1 Zillion b/c reel. Also picked up a Falcon Cara 6'10" finesse jig b/c rod w/ split grip handle. I've been eyeing this rod since the beginning of the year when the store got them in. Both these b/c rods are sooo light, can't wait to try them out. Since I've been wanting to get a quality b/c reel to go w/ my Carrot Stix b/c rod...the Daiwa Sol b/c reel is what I waited for till today. The reel now seems "old school" since it's a few years old & not quite as "juiced" up w/ reels now. But it's still a small, light weight b/c reel that I'll use for cranking lures & finesse apps. They even spooled it w/ 8 lb P-Line CXX for free since I spent quite a few greenbacks there today. I was at Cabelas earlier today too & picked up a couple other reels (okay, so I got more than a couple reels). I had some credit that was burning a hole in my pocket, so I found a very good deal on a left hand Quantum Accurist b/c reel that was their display. The reel is on closeout for $60, but since it was the last w/ no box they took off another 10% off on the reel. I totally went over the reel to make sure that it worked close to flawlessly & it did. Soooooo, I had enough left to get the new 2009 Shimano Sahara 3000 spinning reel....very nice!!! The thing reels like butta!!! Okay gotta admit...I did get "one" more reel last weekend. Dick's Sporting Goods has/had the Daiwa Capricorn 2500(discontinued). It matches "good" w/ the 7' medium Carrot Stix spinning reel I have. Since a friend works at DSG, he got it for me w/ his discount, even though it was on closeout for $50. I KNOW I am done w/ all my upgrades for this year, it should hold up for all of next year...I REALLY hope so....

Kistler + chronarch 50mg

Citica D and Curado D
The Curado 200D is the same size as the Citca 200D. And the Curado 101D is the same size as the Citica 100D. Also the D models are heavier at just shy of 10 oz. The newer E models are almost 2 oz lighter, so these are easier to fish all day long. I had the D models of the Citca & Curado & I could only fish w/ them for so long before getting tired. This years Quantum b/c reels were also close to 10 oz, now the 2009 models have also dropped in weight. Go to Tackletour.com & look at the archives to see the reviews of these reels.

Daiwa Zillion Rod Will Be Mine In A Couple Weeks!
http://www.tackletour.com/reviewdaiwazillionrod.html First I have to say that the review from TT of the Zillion Rod is great! Now from the Zillion rod model that TT reviewed is the one I will be getting. I have that same exact rod on layway till day after Thanksgiving. The store I am buying it from is having a 20% off sale, that is the time I'll be picking the 6'9" MH Zillion rod. I had the Daiwa Ike 6'8" medium spinning rod a couple weeks ago. The first time using it, I hooked a bass while using a jig. I set the hook & the rod snapped a foot or so from the top. When the bass took off, the rod snapped a couple more times under the original place it broke. I brought the broken Ike rod back to the store & the manager told me he will replace w/ the same model. Well they didn't have any more of the same, so I went w/a 7'6" MH Ike spinning rod. I hemmed & hawed over a week w/ this rod & did not take the plastic off or use it. I then get a flyer from the store that they will be having a day after Thanksgiving sale. So I went back to the store w/ the new 7'6" Ike rod & used that money for a down payment for the 6'9" MH Zillion rod. I just have to wait a couple more weeks till I can get the Zillion rod. Only thing is the timing will suck, cuz winter is coming....FAST & will only be able to try it out for a little while. the rod will match w/ my Zillion 7.1:1 baitcast reel perfectly!

Zillion Rod 6'9" MH Is Good For.....
It's 1/4-1 oz lure weight, 10-20 lb line weight. Is this strictly a worm/jig rod, swimjigs???? Can this be used for frogs & heavier crankbaits/jerkbaits? How about under 5" swimbait types like Shadalicious???

Fenwick Elite Tech Rods
The all graphite ones, not the half & half ones; what kind of shafts are they? IM, HMG, proprietary??? They have come out w/ a new walleye model & would also like to know what kind of shafts are on them. On the Fenwick site it does does state what kind of graphite shaft they use. I'm intrigued cuz they cost $200 & up, so just wondering if it's quality graphite shafts being used.

phantom red power pro ......
I am using 40 lb (10 lb dia) red PP on 3 of my baitcast reels. The box I have, the red has bled & it stains your fingers. I feel that the red does stand out more but I've mostly used the line for fast moving baits or top water, like frog fishing. So the fish I guess really don't see the color. I noticed that the red also fades a bit faster than the green PP. I've colored the first 6' of the red line w/ a black marker. I mostly bought the red braid to go w/ my red spool Zillion 7.1 & 2008 Daiwa Advantage baitcast reel that also has a red spool. It really looks sharp on the reels. The third reel that I put the line on is on my BPS Extreme 7.1 baitcast reel. The way I understand what red does in different depths, it does not disappear, but turns black. It was just one spool of the red PP I bought, but in the future I'll be buying green.

Spro BBZ-1 Shad Question
I am looking to ordering the BBZ-1 Shad in the herring color. But I'm not sure which sink rate I need, the slow sink or fast sink. I fish pretty much at all depths, so I am thinking the fast sink would be the one I want. But is the slow sink just "slow" to get to the depth I want? I would think that the fast sink would be similar to a Mattlures Baby Bass when it comes to how fast it will dive. If this is right, then I think the fast sink is what I need. What do you think? What would the slow sink be best used for, shallow fishing up to 6'?
