  1. Yep, they have them down here in Alexandria's Academy Sporting goods as well. (i'm leaving Friday driving back home to Richmond, VA, so that is why the difference.)
  2. I have the Powell Endurance 775CB. IT is a MONSTER!! That rod will fit your bill for sure! I have no problems throwing the DT16s, I like the Rapalas.
  3. Yeah, I know there is a lot of support for all three on here. It seems you're heading in the right direction. I'm a Shimano-head so.........but, I have friends that swear by both others. Have you taken the rod to the store and put all three on thee rod to see how they balance?
  4. From what I have heard from my friends that use D-bombs, hooks are optional. They will catch fish even without them, hahah!!! Good luck at Guntersville!
  5. I just got one. I have not fished with it yet, in the process of packing and moving. But, if you search this forum, i know there was a review somewhere. They are sweet looking! If you search the internet, you can find them cheaper. Good luck!
  6. I was as well. The only reel place to get your hands on a Powell on the Mid-Atlantic is say your buddies. But, I have definitely increased my landing percentage since converting to Powell Endurances. I have lost three fish in 2 years on Endurances. One failure was old line, another was weak drag setting on the reel ( I hooked "Red October," and did not have the best drag working for that fish), and the last was just hey, he got off. I've never fished a Dobyns, and I am not going to get into the discussion. But, the backbone on the Powell Endurance rods is outstanding!
  7. Powell Endurance 6103. It is a little heavier action, but enough backbone to get a hook home at any depth. Good luck!!
  8. Hey guys! For the James river. I like 42nd, and Texas beach and pony pasture areas. If you are kayaking, pony pasture below the last rocks is very good. I don't have a kayak or fish with from one. But, good success there on the river from the bank of wading. Also, if you have time go 288 to Chesterfield and put in over behind James river high school. Slow water is there as well. But, the only problem is boaters and jet skiers on the weekends, usually starting after noon. BUT, there are some very nice smallies in there! Go to my pictures and find the picture of the smallmouth. He came from that part of the river on a Rage craw! Also, on the weekends, I would run out 522 to where it crosses the James. There is a boat-ish landing there and less party boat traffic. Four inch black and blue laminate weightless senko, or Junebug in the summer. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
  9. Powell Endurance 723 1/40z.-3/4oz. 10#-17# and incredible backbone for hook setting power!
  10. Congrats! I guess you dont need that 7 to 1 50MG7 gear set now? Very cool!!
  11. Those old Abu's just flat out work! They are the tanks of baitcasting reels! I would love for them to do an arbor type round casting reel. There is a lot of material that could be trimmed away to save weight.
  12. Curado was the first baitcaster for me that I could use well. I have a family of E series, supertuned by DVT. The VBS system is very foregiving to learn on. Once you get it adjusted, "Forget about it!" you're ready to catch some bass!!!
  13. Nice pictures, thanks for posting them!
  14. Louisiana Go fishing, then some crawfish, gumbo, jambalaya and your favorite beverage! Rinse and repeat!
  15. I really like the Rapalas!! I have absolutely worn then out on a Helsinki Shad CRR-5! The KVD 1.5s have done well for me to, I am not going to deny them at all, but I like he color patterns over the Rapalas better, they just seem a little "richer," to me. IMO Excalibur square bills as well have done well for me.
  16. Ugh, so envious! It sure looks stought and up to the task of meeting as Roadwarrior calls them "Walmart Girls," (The name he gave to big bass about a year ago, I still laugh over that comment today!) Looks like Shimano responded very well with this new line of Curados.
  17. Weapons of Choice Paulaner Hefe-weizen Sam Adams Cold Snap If it is close to pay day and I am running low, good ole' PBR, it got me through college!
  18. Does anyone know his rod/reel combo and the line he used? I haven't been able to find that. I am curious about the speed of the reel he used. Thanks, Wdy
  19. From what I was sent and read, he mainly used a prototype Livingston Lure, crankbait, crawfish color. Also, I read he used a Rapala DT 6 in practice, but I know he said he used the DT6 today as well. The livingston crank prototype was handed to him on media day and he only had the one in the boat that caught him all the winning fish. Good story for Mr. Howell, seemed to be a real humble guy. Great to see if public figures these days.
  20. I'd cast, catch the fish. Take pictures, get my Citation from the state (myself and my friends do not have any citations and think that is the plateau to shoot for), release the fish. Gloat in front of my fishing buddies, and not tell them what the genie did for me. Or, more importantly, not tell them were they can find that genie. Wdy
  21. Are you set on the 725? I have the Endurance 775, not fished it yet, and primarily got it for Pitching. But, I understand it is a great jig rod from other posts I have read, not sure how it will do for small swimbaits. I probably didn't help you out with this though. Good luck and enjoy the new rod!
