  1. When I first started tossing bigger swimbaits I was in High School and didn’t have the $ to get a specializes big swim bait rod/reel. I used a similar SW set up you mentioned and had no issues.
  2. its also become my go to way to fish for stripers with smaller swimbaits.
  3. Live Target makes a smaller frog that’s worked well for me in small ponds. I use 30lb braid with no issues. On the normal sized Spro frogs I use 50lb power pro braid that is probably 10 years old.
  4. Also use bass mafia coffin box and works great. Holds all my stuff in the right compartments.
  5. I use the Norman Speed Clips on all my squarebills, lipless, jerkbaits, swim jigs, and bladed swimjigs. I started using them mainly in my kayak when I’d have a couple rods and eventually use all the time now.
  6. Flown Southwest and Hawaiian with the Daiwa travel rods As a carry on and no issues.
  7. d**n didn’t realize the lake got hit that hard with the toxic bloom. My wife and I fished it a few times in the spring of 2008. She had a friend that lived down there so would get us in. It was like fishing in a bath tub. Super clear water and not much cover outside of the boat docks. At the time you could probably see 15-20 ft down. For us we caught fish drop shotting or on a 4” senko. Senkos worked along the docks/walls but you had to be far away and make long casts. Drop shot worked deeper again with long casts. My wife also caught some off of beds. For us we were using 6lb test. This was over 10 years ago and we haven’t been back as we moved.
  8. Can’t say much about crankbaits, but Owner makes some single hooks which I’ve replaced on my jerkbaits with success. I like them when fishing stripers and have not seen a decrease in hookups but have made it a lot easier to release them
  9. I also forgot to mention, tides are key on the delta. I prefer an incoming tide but water movement is key. If you are out early in Disco bay and see birds working an area, stripers are in. Get out a jerkbait or topwater and have some fun.
  10. If you launch out of Orwood, the Old river is good as well as Mildred island
  11. Congrats on the boat a completely different look now on the delta. I haven’t spent much time out of Antioch. I’ve launched a few times out of Big Break area and done ok for LMB, and usually do better out of there for Stripers IMO it’s better to go a little more inland to Stockton or Franks Tract or even Disco Bay Area. I normally launch out of Orwood or Russo’s. If you’ve never launched before I would pick Orwood. It’s a pretty large launch area. You will learn pretty quick the Delta has a lot of fishy looking water, but like most places the fish will congregate to certain areas. With my boat I’m usually fishing pretty quickly through areas until I find a pattern.
  12. Punching has been producing some nice fish. Not sure how early you are getting out but also the frog and buzzbait have been producing in the morning. Swim jigs, spinner baits, blades swim jigs, square bills are good search baits and once you find them you can slow down and flip a jig or a Senko.
  13. I fish jigs all the time from shore. I usually try and get away with the lightest jog possible so spend a lot of time throwing 1/4 oz. I’ve thrown up to a 1oz jig to get it farther out. I find with a lighter jig I tend to get hung up less. I will say I do tend to lose more jigs fishing them from shore vs my boat or kayak...though they still catch the same amount of fish
  14. Yup change it. Tips are easy to replace
  15. I fish both weedless and top hook. I prefer the ROF 5 size in weedless as I swim this bait through weeds/cover. The ROF 12 size I prefer in top hook as I fish this more like a jig dragging it on the bottom.
  16. I think it may be out in specific areas, plenty of stock by me as well
  17. My wife’s first bass came on a Carolina Rig...she just casts and drags it. Still her favorite way to fish for them. Son’s first fish came on a senko
  18. I picked 1 up but haven’t used it yet. I have a couple of the old LC RC wake baits and do really well in the summer time so will try this out in a few months
  19. NorCal is easy...2 days on Clearlake, a day on Berryessa, and 2 days on the Delta All big water areas that can be easily fished from a kayak, it’s driven from where you are launching from
  20. I’ve used a slip bobber as well and the SPRO phat fly as well. Caught a ton of 8-10” Spots...nothing bigger
  21. Tackle Express 20% off Nov 23-25th SAVEBIG18
  22. www.thehookuptackle.com started there 20% off sale code: save20
  23. Can you still fish at the ASU Research Park? i use to fish that 10 years ago and my biggest bass was just under 5lbs. Also when it’s Tialpia spawning season they were super aggressive and finally a great place for carp
  24. I tried the dreamshots when they came out. As mentioned above the tail section tears easily...Roboworms aren't the most durable baits either but they flat out work and have been more durable then the dreamshots. I use predominantly Robo's and have tried a ton of other type baits but always come back to them.
