  1. The ABC's of life saving as taught by the Army. 1. Airway - Open Airway, restore breathing and heartbeat 2. Bleeding - Stop the bleeding if possible 3. Control - Control and or treat for shock 4. Dress - Dress and bandage wounds If he was choking on blood, it definitely would have been wise to attempt to clear the airway. Other concerns must be taken into account as well though. In a situation like that, I would be very concerned with the potential for a spinal injury. Before turning him any, you would have had to make sure his head and neck were immobilized in some way. Whether it is from somebody holding him, or fashioning some way to keep everything in line. Could you have been held legally responsible? I'd like to say no, but honestly I couldn't tell you. I'm no lawyer. I'm sure that in this day and age though, somebody somewhere could find a reason to file suit against you for it if you caused additional damage. At the same time, standing there and doing nothing could probably get you in some kind of trouble as well. It could really end up being one of those situations where you're screwed no matter what depending on how you look at it. If it were me in that situation, I'd do my damnedest to try and help the guy out.
  2. Gulley sustained ‘internal injuries’ during June 19 boating mishap on Kentucky Lake 20.Jun.2011 FLW Outdoors officials have spoken to the family of the person injured in Sunday’s one-boat accident during the FLW Tour event on Kentucky Lake. Mary Ann Gulley has confirmed that her son, Robert Gulley, was a cameraman injured on a boat driven by competitor Shinichi Fukae when the boat struck the Highway 79 Bridge near Paris, Tenn. At about 11:30 a.m. Central time today, Mrs. Gulley referred questions from FLW Outdoors officials to South Carolina angler Michael Murphy, a close family friend and Robert’s practice partner on the FLW Tour. “Robert was involved in an accident and was riding in the passenger side of the boat when they struck the bridge,” Murphy said. “Robert was not ejected from the boat, but he did hit the console and received internal injuries from the impact. He was airlifted to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville where he spent the night in the intensive care unit and remains there now. He is showing signs of improvement. He is eating and drinking, and the doctors feel he is in the clear, but they are going to continue to monitor him. If everything progresses like it is, they will remove him from the ICU and into a regular room.” “Shin (Fukae) is coming to visit Robert this afternoon,” Murphy added. “We are all good friends, like family.”
  3. Directly through Shimano is a pretty easy place. You can send a PM to Bantam1 here, or on several other websites for specific part information. He regularly posts in the TT forums.
  4. It hasn't been "that" long. Though it certainly isn't new news. http://fish.shimano.com/publish/content/global_fish/en/us/index/articles/shimano_american_acquires.html IRVINE, Calif. – December 31, 2008 – Shimano American Corporation, Irvine, Calif., has completed its agreement to acquire Innovative Textiles, Inc., the company best known as the makers of PowerPro braided fishing line, announces Dave Pfeiffer, Shimano American president. Established in 1992, Innovative Textiles introduced PowerPro braided fishing line to the market in 1997. The company first started making Spectra fiber braid for kite flying, plus Krauland and his engineering staff were involved with other companies who needed their braiding expertise for some of the first braided fishing lines.
  5. I'm with Francho. If I can't see it anymore, I'm going to try and cross his eyes. Especially in really thick stuff. Frogs aren't feel baits. If I see a blowup, I'm counting to two and then swinging for the fences. If I miss him, that's when something weightless will get tossed in the area of the blowup. I don't miss too many on a frog.
  6. Honestly, we wont know until Shin or the camera man comes out and says what happened. I read somewhere that Shin may have been reaching for something that was rolling around on the floor of the boat when it happened. Hopefully they both get better. This is just another case of why you should wear a PFD. Imagine if that was you on the water (not in a tourney), and you hit something and did the damage he did. Recipe for disaster.
  7. So I finally have a day off that I can actually go fishing. The weather looks decent tomorrow, so I'm going to hit one of the strip pits that are in my area. Just curious what all you guys think the fish should be doing. The barometer has been fairly stable for the past week and the water levels are still low. I'm really wondering if the afternoon rains that we've been having will effect the fishing much. Got deep water, for the most part with sheer rocky drops. There are a handful of flats on the lake, and one section that has a bridge with chunk rock lining it. Where all would you guys start looking? Or just say screw it and cover the entire water column and hope for the best...
  8. Yeesh. You've been in China more than here it seems. My brother just got back from Qingdao and Beijing about a week and a half ago. There was a big boat festival in Qingdao that we had some stuff to do. He said it was absolutely ridiculous how many people were there this time. The airports were slammed.
  9. Just saw this myself. Condolences to his friends and family.... Case in point of what drinking and driving can do.
  10. DefInitley looks like a Mudfish to me. Like Shallow Thinker said, those are some nasty fish. Not something that I really like to even handle. Given the choice, I'll keep them in the water and try to dehook them with some long pliers.
  11. Happy fathers day, all. Hope you all enjoyed the day as much as I did. Aint much better than waking up late and having the kids leap into bed with you to say "Happy Daddies Day!" Good times.
  12. Probably because he couldn't return under his own power. I'm pretty sure if you get towed in, you end up forfeiting the days catch. Don't quote me on that though as I'm not 100% certain.
  13. Here's a photo I found of it that was posted on another forum. Both of them are very lucky nothing worse happened to them.
  14. Sure as hell does look like wood. The rollers appear to be Aftco's, but you never can tell now without actually having them in your hand. The reels look an awful lot like Shimano TLD's. Not exactly the best reels in the world. They're plenty serviceable though. If that is true, I'm kind of surprised. Most guys now are using stuff like Robert mentioned about. You can find Penn Internationals on just about any boat that does a lot of offshore trolling. I believe one of the pics you posted in your other thread had them set up in the rocket launcher on the deck of the boat. I really hope you didn't lose that fish because of shoddy equipment. Although, I can honestly that I'm kind of glad in a way. I know you mentioned that the Captain and Mate wanting to bring the fish back in to weigh. Thats a serious no no in my book. Tag them, revive them, then let them be on their way. Really big Blues are becoming fewer and fewer. If you think a 10 pound bass has a hard time getting that big, imagine being a Marlin. No matter what, it's a hell of a fish either way. Great memory right there. Hope somebody got you a couple pics of the fish.
  15. I know I've had a bunch of rain the last few days down here in Broward. Though it seems that water is getting pulled out of the lakes down here as quick as it's going in. Wheres one of those tropical systems when you actually need one....
  16. Unreal. KVD wins AOY......again. Dude is just awesome.
  17. Oh wow. That sucks. I'm very sorry to hear it. There isn't much worse than having to put down a family pet. They just become another member of the family. My condolences to you and your family.
  18. This could well be some of the best advice you get. The smoother your cast, generally the lower the amount of braking force you need, giving you a longer cast. Unfortunately for me, there are still times when I get over excited and try to whip a cast out. Then I hear that lovely sound of a backlash while it's happening and just hang my head. Happens to everybody once in a while.
  19. God, I feel for the guy in that picture. That had to suck. Jigfishn, I know the feeling about the table saw. I'm excessively careful with mine. I've seen people remove body parts with them. That is one two that I just don't mess around with. You got lucky as hell with your mishap.
  20. Does look a lot like wood in that picture. If I had to make a guess, it'd be a glass rod.
  21. Just out of curiosity, what are Miami fans going through right now? I mean I'm a serious sports nut, but uh....yeah, nothing wrong here. Would it have been cool to win? Sure. They didn't. Life goes on. I got what I paid for when I bought my tickets this year. Entertainment. The Heat were the most exciting team to watch in Basketball this year. Looking forward to next season. The only thing I'm sad about right now is the lack of sports on TV each evening. Between the NBA and NHL playoffs, the last couple of weeks have been great. Crying shame I can't say the same for the Dolphins....
  22. The thumb trick will work most of the time. Eventually though, you're going to get one that just won't clear doing it that way. Time to start picking it out by hand. If you're patient enough, you can clear just about any backlash. When you're learning how to use it though, a cheap nylon mono is definitely the way to go. When the bad one does happen, you won't be angry about having to cut away line.
  23. Not that I argue with anything you said, Deaknh03, don't you think if endorsements were really a concern he would have picked New York? He could made made much more money by going up there.
  24. x2 The Citica is such a great reel for the money spent it's funny. The Curado is a bit better, and it's another fine reel. I use my Citicas far more than my other Shimano models. I'll probably be buying more before too long while they're on sale. I'm fully expecting to see some for sale on the flea market after ICAST and the new toys come to the market.
  25. It's just ridiculous. The Decision wasn't his idea. He gets slammed for it. We might as well slam him for all the money and equipment that got donated to needy children as well. I mean that was part of the big evil Decision. If he stays at home, he gets killed for being the typical money hungry professional athlete. He leaves, and does what the public has been begging an athlete to do for a while (take less money to try and win), he gets absolutely murdered. The simple fact of the matter is he's screwed no matter what he does. He could quit playing basketball, donate every dime he has to some charity, and be done with it, and public opinion won't change. He'd still get killed for doing that. Most people would probably lose it after being scrutinized so much for an entire year. Getting constantly harassed no matter what. The guy deserves some credit for handling everything he's had to.
