  1. I really doubt the spawn is still on in mass but I guess it's possible. Maybe that female's tale has yet to heal since the spawn, or maybe even a turtle attack. Though I don't claim to have a plethora of knowledge I think you just parked your canoe in the right spot and there's another explanation for the tail. But hey, what do I know?
  2. So this season I've been focusing on trying out as many different bodies of water as I can in my my general area. I kinda got comfortable in a couple different places but I feel like I should search for that perfect body of water. I live in north Bergen County and would be looking for a lake within an hour or so of where I live. I'm particularly interested in the Highland Lakes and the reservoirs in the Rt. 23/Clinton area. Here's where I've already fished in my area: The Monksville (AKA Skunksville) Green Turtle Pond Campgaw Pond Greenwood Lake Shepherds Lake Ramapo Lake Spruce Run Both the Lakes in the Ramapo Reservation Bear Swamp Lake Darlington Pond White's Pond Blue Lake (NY) Lake Hopatcong Pompton Lake Potash Lake I think that's pretty much it, although I'm sure I forgot a spot or two. Also I'd prefer if it was manageable with a kayak, but I'm pretty sure most lakes in NJ are besides like Greenwood and Hopatcong. Anyway thanks for reading, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  3. Do you mean like to send a rod back to a manufacturer or to travel? For mailing a rod, just go to a UPS store and for travel just go to any tackle shop.
  4. bottledgt - i had a similar accident 2-3 years ago and i also no longer fish in sandals.
  5. ahhhh the awesome power of the senko.
  6. I recently decided to upgrade my my line type by going from 12# mono to 20# braid with a 12# flouro leader. So far I'm loving it. I never realized how big a difference a line with no stretch would make on my sensitivity. So I was taught how to tie leaders a while back by a fishing buddy of my fathers, but the knot he showed me is making a bit more of a bump in my line than I would like. Now I may have missed an article on this site but I didn't see anything about tying leaders, and I am hoping you guys can point me in the direction of something to help me tie better leaders. Thanks.

Hey were not just bass fisherman, we are a special group of individuals that solve all the worlds problems mostly on this forum (lol). It just so happens that we are all bass fishermen. Pay attention when some of these older members speak their minds the best thing to do is to shut up and listen to their golden words of wisdom. That made me laugh ;D
  8. Nice fish! I've actually been fishing a lot of muddy water recently (we've had a lot of rain up here) and I wish I was producing fish like that.
  9. Nice fish Johnny Boy. I was just wondering if you ever caught that first bass of 09 hahah.
  10. Nice fish. Is that a highland smallie? I've been shore fishing the Ramapo River lately and been doing great with numbers, but crappy with size.

If I were you I would avoid having the mom involved, if possible. Personally I think it would make things awkward because I feel at that age it's hard to really be who you wanna be in front of your parents. But I guess if you don't have a lot of options just try to make it just for the ride. Also definitely have mom drive and sit in the back with her. It would probably make her feel more comfortable. Also I wanna say that I think your putting more thought into this than you need to. Just relax and be yourself, confidence is key with the ladies it I wish I had realized that sooner, but once I did it totally changed my "game" for the better. P.S. You couldn't think of better people to ask for relationship advice than a bunch of bass fisherman?
  12. And by the way Muddy, I've got some LOUD live Dead coming out of these bose headphones right now.
  13. Well I'm kidding, I said "this is just for fun". But if you were a part of the said forum you would see rule #1 in action and how well it actually works. It make's it easier to call out the obvious fabrications and exaggeration that naturally occur among fishermen. I didn't realize how narrow the sense of humor of old bass-heads can be. Sorry for trying to have a little fun on my somewhat-new favorite website. So to answer Muddy, Yes and Yes
  14. Yeah I had been going out too but I stay close to home when it rains, because of the lightning possibility. My favorite lakes are all about 30 minutes in different directions and if I get caught in a sudden thunderstorm in a kayak in them it could get quite ugly.
  15. Thanks bite. We're all pretty experienced so it's not a huge deal, but I'm concerned about the kids. They're all getting to the age where they want to go out on their own in kayaks and are too cool to be in a canoe with dad. Maybe I'll just bring a couple rafts, which are 100 times safer.
  16. So this is just for fun, but another forum I frequent has 1 rule which we refer to as "Rule #1". It is used when someone mentions a female, whether it is a girlfriend, wife, friend, a random date...whatever. There must be a picture in the post of said female. For Example: Subject: Had worst blind date ever last night. Message: So I went on a blind date and she turned out to look like Bilbo Baggins, and she farted after she scarfed down the entire 72 ounce steak which I had to pay for. Now if the poster didn't not put up a photo, I would respond by saying "Rule #1 or bust pal". If the pic is not posted then the board refuses to believe the story. I think this would work well when someone posts something like "I caught a 13 pounder in Vermont." Basically you must post a pic, or loose credibility.
  17. Yeah i'm fine. As I said it could've been much worse. I would've taken a picture but that didn't exactly cross my mind when I was trying to clean it and stop the bleeding.... But the fact that you requested the picture just gave me a good idea. I'm going to start a thread about it in the Everything Else section. Another forum has a "rule" called Rule #1 which I think could be very useful on this site. Also I would snap a shot now but there is really nothing to see. Being that the cut was under the nail it would just be a pic of a fingernail with a little red dot on it.
  18. I was reaching down to pick up my rod and on the way down my hand was head towards the hook which slid right under my fingernail. It was a one in a million shot. Luckily it could of been a heck of a lot worse, but it was definitely doin' some serious bleedin'.
  19. I didn't actually laugh out loud until I read "and farted whenever he wanted." Then I just hit the floor.
  20. I wish I had read this thread an 3 hours ago. I just bought my first 150 yard spool of braid and just tied it right on the spool with out a backing. I'm using 20lb braid with a 12lb flouro leader. I just got back from the pond down the street and it worked great, but I'll cross my fingers in the hopes that it doesn't start slipping.
  21. Yo sharkbite, how high is it? I'm doing a trip next weekend up north and we're going to be kayaking/canoeing. A couple guys are bringing their kids and I'm hoping it's not going to be dangerous for anyone. I'm really just wondering if you worried about your boat in particular because I've been in it and I know it's not set up to go through any rapids or quick water, or if the river is just straight up dangerous for anyone.
  22. Look for the topic on here titled "General Walleye Advice" I started it a couple weeks ago and got some pretty good feedback.
  23. idaho***er - that's all the same lake?
  24. You think we're ever gunna get a break from this rain? There's gunna be a rod in my car at work tomorrow, but something tells me I'm not gunna be able to use it when I get out.
