  1. Just like everyone sd it is a presentation that causes a reaction strike. I use a 7' 6" H, 65+ lb braid, 1 - 1 1/2 oz tungsten weight, 4/0 flipping hook, zoom lizard. I have found that the lizard works 10x better than any other plastic I've used. Simply pitch the bait, with good height to get their attention, at different patches of weeds you believe they are hiding. Simply lift, then drop a few time and repeat.
  2. Catt, I'm starting to see a pattern hah
  3. I have never deep cranked that deep...were you fishing the thermocline? I usually stick to the 12-20' range running my crank along the weedline parallel to the first drop off...I'm not saying those are the only places that you will have luck or to fish, I have just found those spots to be the most productive...only other advice would be to get a powerful rod and so when you do get hung up (which is a good thing) you can rip the crank out which often will entice a strike... Deep cranking is my favorite way to fish and provide a day of fishing you may never thought was possible, so keep on chuckin!
  4. Just caught this lady on the same setup! It is definitely getting the attention of the bigger bass.
  5. Nice fish dude! 7.2?
  6. I talked to Chris a little bit today as he gloated about his outing (I would have too) and it got me thinking that I should throw a swimjig/hollow belly combo. A little back story, I have had a terrible last few months, nothing over 4.5 lbs. I went out and on my first cast, THUNK! THUNK!, a nice 3 lbr followed by four in a row the same size. I couldn't believe the swimbait lasted as long as it did, but I realized after that last fish that I was out!! The only swimbaits I had with me were the 6" shadlicious hollow bellies. I hooked one up thinking if I catch anything it will be a muskie/pike...After a few casts around the side of a point I get a bite that nearly rips the pole out of my mind. I finally get this hog close enough to lip it and it was a giant 5.5 lb bass; my biggest since early spring. It's weird to say it because I have taught Chris all he knows about fishing, but I owe this one to him
  7. I agree with RR. Try someone with a little more action in the hot summer days; my favorite is a paca chunk and RR spaz chunk. But for cold water I have not found a better match for a jig than his cold water trailer; they are what we like to call a match made in heaven!
  8. Anyone is has tried it knows just how hard it is to kick...good thing I'm getting married bc that will force me to quit
  9. A-Jay, Is that just a senko?
  10. I would say shaky head with a zoom finesse worm, but I cant stand finesse fishing.....SOOO I would go with Norman deep little N
  11. It actually happened this spring. I was throwing a swim jig in the back of a cove and literally the second it hit the water a bass annihilated it. I set the hook and my rod doubled over and as soon as he was on, he was off...I have never felt a fish that powerful and this one put the 6lber I had caught earlier to shame. This Muskie was one of the bigger fish I had hooked and landed. Saltwater, I had a manta ray on that I fought for a good 45 minutes until it snapped my steel line...
  12. Shad Master, I agree. Your confidence in the bait you are throwing is as important as the bait itself. If you have a bunch a cranks in your box without confidence in them, you are going to be quick on the trigger to go the next one without giving it a legitimate shot to catch bass. I have a few in my box that when I go out no matter the conditions I go right for those first.
  13. I first piece of advice I always give beginners is to learn as much info about bass fishing as you can, and then take that into consideration when buying tackle, instead of going to your local store and buying everything on the shelf.
  14. I agree with tholmes. I would concentrate on many other aspects before the actual worm I am throwing including: technique, weight size, retrieve, location, size, color, etc.
  15. When it comes to color, a lot of it depends on the conditions in which you are fishing, but it is also very important that you have confidence in what you are throwing. One of my favorite colors is Hot Mustard. I throw will throw that color in 75% of situations because I have so much confidence that it will produce for me, and in many cases it does.
  16. I haven't noticed any that are very cheap, but these Kanji's are pretty nice. I fish these in more open water, but if you are fishing a lake with vegetation I would get a straight finesse drop shot weight.
  17. All I have used from BBB is the squirrel tail worms, which are awesome on a shaky head.
  18. It all depends on the situation, but I have the most confidence in the Norman series of cranks
  19. I actually really like the one Matzuo popper I have. It looks just like a Megabass, for 1/20 of the price haha...The only problem I have with the company I have is their inconstancy. I bought a spook style bait in one of the coolest colors I have ever seen, but it just lays on its side.
  20. I wouldn't touch Matzuo cranks with a ten foot pole. After every cast you have to tune them and they never stay on track during the retrieve. If your price range is $5-10, I would go with the Rapala DT series. All I really use are DT's, Normans, and 6xds, because they work and I have confidence in them.
  21. As far as abrasion resistance, P-Line CXX is awsome.
  22. What kind of knot are you tying? It could be something as simple as knot wetting it enough...There are plenty of things it could be, but most of my snapping issues were due to these problems.
