Baitcasters are better for heavier baits and heavier cover, as well as a few other things. Spinning combos are better for light line and light baits, as well as a few other things. You can use one or the other for everything but it won't be as efficient as using both. I use baitcasters about 97% of the time in my own fishing but I have "specialty" rods and reels to cover some techniques that would generally require spinning gear. I use casting gear because it's what I enjoy the most.

I would probably look at the 7'6" HF for those weights and larger hollow bellys. Sorry, I see you already have the glass rod, I missed that on first read. You could try it and see how it works. It's less than ideal though.

Lefty, righty on reels really stands for what side the handle is on. Anyone can use either. I learned to fish with spin casting gear when I was a kid so a rh casting reel was natural for me. YMMV

I generally prefer round bend trebles on topwater baits. I like the Owner st36's. I think a size 4 would probably be right for Magnum Pop-r's.

Check out Upton's Customs, they make a fantastic hand poured worm. Kicker Fish also makes a nice floating tail worm, called the High Tail Hole Shot, I think.
