  1. The way I look at it “technique specific “ is a rod with attributes that work exceptionally well in a given application. That doesn’t mean the same rod wouldn’t work well or as well in another application. Not every technique is highly dependent on specific rods either. Pick the right tool for the job and fine tune as you see fit.
  2. The mojo should make a fine spinner bait rod but I don’t see it feeling identical to the LB
  3. It’s perfectly reasonable to have a brand preference, but to say unequivocally that any brand rods are more sensitive than another is impossible. Read opinions and weigh them. Then go with your gut and own experience.
  4. This is what I was thinking about when I posted prior. On paper, dual supported pinions are much better design. In real world applications the difference is much less noticeable in many cases.
  5. Happy New Year friends! Special thanks to Glenn to providing this space for us. As always, thank you everyone for your support of our business and for all the advice, opinions and friendship present on the forum.
  6. Shimano and Daiwa are the standard imo but Doyo is a good manufacturer.
  7. What you have there is three rods of all different power and action. The take away is really highlighting the subjectivity of manufacturer labels.
  8. What you’re describing is normal and not likely to indicate the need to replace parts. Yes, there are fine tuning hacks to achieve and maintain a certain feel (up to point) but you’ll get yrs of use out of that reel doing what you’re doing.
  9. I can’t see any mechanical reason for the drag to back off aside from moving the drag star intentionally or unintentionally. The detail that it only happens during certain motions and positions supports this idea. I have seen Heavy jerkbaiting put a beating on AR clutches causing a handle to intermittently back turn but that’s another story.
  10. Thanks for shining this light. I see posts all the time bragging about doing 20+ reels a day claiming they do full tear down service. Same goes for those that charge $15 a reel and claim to do a full cleaning. I sure as heck ain’t getting rich but not working for $10/hr either.
  11. Merry Christmas/ Happy Holidays to all. Best wishes from our family to yours.
  12. If you feel the need to change the gears in the Met I’d just go with a Curado. Performance in that application is 6 of one , half dozen of the other.
  13. It wasn’t long ago that the internet was filled with complaints of “over greased “ reels that need immediate cleaning out when new. A reel not being visibly slathered in grease is not a problem. Like Jfranco said oiling bearings is S.O.P.
  14. Any light oil is fine for spool bearings. Remoil, 3in1, air tool oil or even sewing machine oil will work. One small drop on the side of the bearing is all it takes. One inside the palm plate one under the cast control cap.
  15. I do a lot of these repairs successfully. If you do decide to retrieve the handle I’d cut it off flush in front of the seat and either drill it out or arbor to fit the new application
  16. Marketing, perception and just plain timing can make all the difference.
  17. If you bought casting tackle in hopes or raw distance over spinning tackle you might be disappointed.
  18. Nice job. Ingenuity worthy of a rod builder!
  19. The easiest answer is a spinning rod where conditions make casting troublesome.
  20. It has to do with the angle of the trip ramp. Shimano design allows the bail to stay open but it not fully open and locked hence the snap. positioning the bail with roller top dead center for casting should eliminate this problem with any spinning reel designs.
  21. I have a friend and customer who is adamant about having all the same reels to eliminate adjustments in technique from one to the next. I don’t do that personally but can see the logic. Each brand has models that shine in certain applications so there’s a good argument for an eclectic collection which is how I lean. For serious tournament angling I stress the importance of bullet proof workhorse reels over anything more refined and “pleasurable “ to fish.
  22. Send whatever you have at your convenience. Thanks!!
  23. Is your question if new reels are “better in every way”? If so, I don’t think it’s that cut and dried.
  24. Agreed. The rub is that they have a cult following and go for more than I paid new on clearance. Personally, I don’t see the “latest tech” having all that much value over the e7. Biggest advantage would be longer parts availability of new models. One could argue that even so, the E is less likely to need parts over time. It’s your call.
