  1. There’s no need to open shielded bearings to clean or oil them under normal circumstances. If you do frequent cleaning of the bearings, running them open can get slight improvement in free spin but not enough to notice during casting imo. Go ahead and experiment for yourself if you’re so inclined but don’t stress that you’re missing out on anything.
  2. AI still gets its input from people it’s just a design tool so I don’t care either way about that. You’re right to ignore the marketing jargon. TW is a trusted retailer. If Duckett puts all their eggs in that basket , so what? Best advice was already given: try one and see for yourself. Proofs in the pudding as they say
  3. They be dented with out I’ll affects but removing the dent is near impossible. Replace it.
  4. That’s right. It just happens in some reels. I get around it by holding the reel with the spool facing down and lift the side plate up into place. Gravity helps keep the brake tabs from flopping down like you describe. It’s easy to do but hard to describe. I end up doing a FaceTime call with the other guy.
  5. I just went thru this with another customer. Call me and I’ll try to explain. It’s hard to do in writing. There’s nothing wrong or broken it’s a design issue.
  6. My tackle are tools, but I take good care of my tools.
  7. Looks like you got lucky. Mainshafts can and do get stripped. Try a new nut making sure it starts easily and snug by hand. Tighten just enough to align the retainer with the screw hole. Don’t force it at all ever.
  8. The fact that you’re doing something at all gets you 90% of the way there. The actual products you choose are preference. There’s no magic in anything labeled reel oil. Biannual deep clean and as needed interim maintenance is a great place to start.
  9. Flush with wd40, simple green and hot water spinning handle in between. Repeat as necessary. Lube with oil.
  10. That’s an affordable easy upgrade. Highly recommended
  11. Reel Magic contains petroleum distillates that slightly degrade the line softening it. It’s also not the best environmentally. KVD is a copolymer that coats and binds to the line. Fluoro is not as elastic as mono. That’s why it weakens when stretched. That’s not to say it will positively break during use though.
  12. Not all composite rods share every feature. They are often designed to blend aspects of glass and graphite rods. Each model is different. On a side note, don’t conflate action with bend profile. Action is where the rod INITIALLY bends when loaded. A fast action can also bend deep into the length as load progresses.
  13. Hopefully I’m qualified. Lol. Thanks bud
  14. Thank you. That’s my next move if I can’t get something stateside.
  15. Hey guys. Anyone got a pre t wing Steez A etc parts reel? I need the clutch cam and brake dial.
  16. You’re not going to rough that up enough to do what you want. Shrink wrap or grip tape.
  17. Years ago you could buy what they called a Japanese handle that was a grip and seat mounted on a carbon tube. You just used arbors to fit to any blank. I don’t like the idea of the blank not going all the way through.
  18. The type or brand of grease and oil is way over emphasized. The “Geary” feeling we complain about is still light years ahead of what we used happily not that long ago. There’s a list of things to check that affected the final feel of a real once it’s been serviced. Feel free to contact me if you’d like help troubleshootingfor
  19. I don’t particularly like clickers at all, drag, star, spool tension. It’s not important enough to me to add nor disable them.
  20. I’m not totally convinced that latest and greatest are inextricably connected.
  21. I’m fortunate to see and handle all kinds of tackle and my most used reels are E series Shimano casting and Ci4+ Stradics. So, no.
  22. Original custom split grips were intended to aid two handed casting by promoting consistent placement of the rear hand with a solid grip. Claims of increased sensitivity are pure marketing by manufacturers whose primary goal is using less material and secondarily, style. It’s really just a matter of preference.
