  1. I’m looking for SSR7 Shad Raps in Silver. If anyone has a line on some I’d appreciate it.
  2. Happy New Year everyone. Thank you for your past and continuing support. I’m back up and running full time. Send your reels at your convenience or ask about making a reservation. thank you Mike
  3. For the love of god, don’t hold rods by the tip like this. What you’re actually seeing is two rods with the same action in different powers. Power is a rods resistance to bends, action is WHERE it bends INITIALLY. And please don’t say “more parabolic”. An arch is either parabolic or it’s not. This word actually has no place when discussing rods or blanks.
  4. It’s just a drip, if it’s bothering you , it could be scraped off with a popsicle stick or old credit card. Gentle warming with a hair drier should make it even easier.
  5. Graphite isn’t brittle per se but I know what you’re referring to. The object of high modulus materials is to achieve sensitivity through a lower weight to stiffness ratio. The trade off is, they are less tolerant of high sticking and impact damage. Most of the blanks marketed as blend or composite use a mix of graphite materials and/or glass to achieve a desired action and power not necessarily durability as in resistance to rough handling. Moderate action rods aren’t usually built with the highest modulus materials so Whatever you pick will likely be a little “tougher” as an ancillary benefit. I wouldn’t stress too much over material outside of which one you like the feel of and will perform as intended.
  6. Golden oak wood filler or cork dust n glue as filler. Sand very lightly 300-400 grit. Seal if desired.
  7. I own and use both. I’m right handed and reserve my righty reels for chuck and wind presentations
  8. The angle does look steep in the pics. Try casting it and see how it works. Hard to believe the impact bent the stem but didn’t damage anything else.
  9. Not necessarily. Lots of people with deep pockets that aren’t as into the weeds on this stuff as we are.
  10. I doubt the stem bent. The angle of the spool shaft is called upsweep. If the part can be obtained, repair should be about $40 all in (parts , labor, shipping)
  11. Nothing bad about it, just tickles me to see how they try to hype old news. I get it, it’s a wildly competitive industry and you have to move product to stay in business. Remember 99% of the fishing public is uninitiated in the techno geek stuff we discuss here.
  12. DC braking is not magic or a replacement for basic skill. That misconception is their only danger. The learning curve isn’t that long with proper setup and understanding of bait-casters.
  13. Cool promo but I don’t see anything really innovative or even new except maybe the new SV spool which is just an improvement on existing design. I got a chuckle out of the mag gears with big teeth with the same advantage of Shimano micro mesh gears. They want you to think a fishing reel is a space shuttle level endeavor.
  14. For the reduction train my choice would be high frame match guides in 20/10/5.5 or 6. Minima, CRB, Fuji all make them. AmTack just came out with them too I believe. Research the Fuji rapid choke system to get understanding of the system.
  15. I dip, then hang them to partially drain. Lay the pinion bearing in question on a paper towel for a minute and it will be fine.
  16. The thing to watch when using gear oil in bearings is the pinion support bearing in a spinning reel. If over oiled, they can seep into the AR and cause it to not work properly.
  17. Glad your repair was successful but more importantly, props for helping someone who’s helping others even when down on their own luck. Sorry for your loss. Everyone should be survived by their kids.
  18. As suggested pack the thread often but also make sure you aren’t overlapping and also that the thread is not too tight to move when packing it.
  19. I’m not sure anymore but years ago it was common practice to may builders to glue cork rings to the blank then shape the grip. I never had the nerve or inclination to try that.
  20. Turning a whole rod is different than just a grip. Be careful to not get the tip whipping and snap.
  21. That’s right. Bad gears are not all that common at all.
  22. Forcing the handle when it binds up may brake something else. Get it sorted out before using it. Let me know if you need help.
  23. Flipping doesn’t involve the reel at all for casting and pitching is low speed casting with relatively heavy weights. I’m not quite wrapping my head around the need for special braking. A light spool typically aids casting light baits. If your fishing heavy cover I see the desire for a solid frame and good drag and gear train.
  24. The matt(bushido) and weave have the same texture just different appearance
  25. The G2 are not polished smooth as PVC. They’re selling a ton of them and I haven’t heard anything negative as far as slipperiness.
