  1. They say that’s where the big ones hang out.
  2. I keep my drag a little tighter on a spinning reel that I do a baitcaster, because I can’t use my thumb on hook set. Instead of trying to tighten down the drag during a fish fight, I use the other hand to put a little pressure on the spool. The drag tension nut on a spinning rig isn’t the easiest thing to do while trying to bring in a fish too.
  3. I usually keep my drag what others would call loose. I use my thumb to apply any more drag.
  4. Prayer and all the good Mojo heading your way A-Jay. Got some for you too Hammer-4. and for anybody else that needs it too.
  5. Man I’m hard on glasses, I’ve bought good glasses before, even have a nice pair of Ray-bans I wear occasionally. For the most part, a pair from the fishing section at Walmart is what I have on, around $20.00 bucks or so. I still take care of them the best I can, dish soap warm water, soft towel, the whole bit. On the boat …we’ll that’s a different story….when they start getting dirty, dunked over the side, tap them on my thigh, and wiped of with my shirt. Like I said I’m hard on glasses.
  6. When you please give us a review of it…. And how you mounted it to be interchangeable between yaks. My brother in-law has a couple. id like the review on the garmin thanks

    Nice
  8. It does look like it fits better than survival….. comfort makes a difference…. Might have a tenacity not to wear it. As far as aerodynamics……my boat is probably a little slower than yours. If I take all my gear outta mine, strip her down, with only a couple gallons of fuel, and I hunker down behind my console. I can hit 30mph, if water and wind conditions are in my favor. Hahaha
  9. A-Jay and FishTank why did you choose the Elite 28 over the survival competition? I just asking because, I’m getting ready to buy the survival comp. It is a type II versus the elite is a type III. Am I missing something? The elite looks mor comfortable but the survival looks cooler with the open back. Not being critical just wonder, I just don’t want to buy the wrong one ….they are pretty expensive. Thanks.
  10. Congratulations
  11. $19.97 I think, it’s been about 6 months or more since I bought it. I would guess it was a “return”…. it had no tags or stickers but the printed bar code from Walmart.
  12. I was at Walmart a while back, always go though the clearance isle if I have time. I picked up a Shakespeare GX2 Ugly Stick…. Must have been a return, no tags or labels. A 5’6” light action. I have a Bass Pro micro lite spinning reel, it will make a nice rig and it’s a spare rig. For me or guest. I put the reel on it hung it in the rack and forgot about, not on purpose, just other things got my attention. I was in my shop and it caught my eye….You know I never fished that rig yet. I got it down rigged it it with a boot tail swim bait and headed for the dock. I am so impressed with this set up. The Gx2 is very sensitive, I could feel the boot tail vibrating and all obstacles if I bounced it on the bottom. I was skipping it between pontoons and everywhere else. I mean for the money it’s a great rod. I’ve heard people talk about them, and I even did a search here before I wrote this thread. I just want to know how I missed this rod. I don’t mean to go on and on but I’ve paid more for other rods and their not as good. What else have I skipped and missed out on?
  13. I keep tv’s and computers… electronics all unplugged, unless I’m using them. I just don’t during the storms. Lost a couple of tv’s. I do like to fish this time of year, rain don’t bother me but, the lightning …. Now that’s a different story. Lake George can get nasty fast. When the St. John’s starts rising it backs up its little rivers and creeks. The Ocklawaha is a good to fish then too.

Hi from the Sunshine State of Fl
  15. I’ve slowed down… I don’t want the fast track to fishing 101. I like getting advise from friends around me and here on this forum. I go out to relax and unwind…. I totally enjoy catching , that’s why I go and I strive to get better ….but not obsessed. …… anymore.
  16. Some people just don’t have the passion for fishing that some of us do. You can’t catch fish if you don’t have your bait(or lure) in the water. Rather be standing on deck or a bank tossing bait out than sitting on a soft couch….with a/c….( wait ) a fridge full of beer a few steps……hot or cold and expose to the elements….hmmmm watching TV… maybe we need to rethink our thought process…….. NAW…… I still pick fishing

It’s not just tough fishing in August, it’s tough on fisherman too. Here the heat and humidity will start to melt ya just after 7:00am.
  18. Papajoe222 I’ve been checking in to them too, I almost lost three rods at once because I didn’t secure them laying on deck. One bounce and they were hanging by the reel on the gunwale. Didn’t lose them but it was close. I haven’t found anything that wasn’t a huge or a big float on the butt of the reel. I was looking at some DYI stuff and pool noodles or, pipe insulation were used forward of the reel. Some were trimmed or an angle was put edges at a nice stylish rake. I really didn’t fall in love with any of them. I don’t have top of the line gear, but I like what I’ve got and would hate to lose it to Davie Jone’s locker. Let us know on what you picked.
  19. That’s a beautiful place, thanks for sharing.
  20. Been there- done that….. but I still had fun.
  21. I don’t have any top water Heddon’s , one knockers. To tell the truth, I didn’t know they made them. I have some lipless cranks that are one knockers, really can’t tell the difference.
  22. Gotta love it…. I Remember the first time I saw an elk… a lot bigger than I expected. You did get to fish and looks like you some decent fish.
  23. I was raised in West Virginia, we called the craw dads. Does any body remember when Jethro was going to show the hippies how to smoke craw dads.
  24. A friend of mine does, he swears the back strap on gar taste a lot like lobster. He grills or steams them chunks it and dips them in butter. Says you have to take tin snips to cut down the back bone and peel it back, then take out the back strap. He called it country boy lobster, I’ve never heard of it, but since he told me about , I’ve heard it redneck lobster or, poor boy lobster.
