Tomorrow I start my new career! New industry, new position, new field... and best of all new water... the boss has access to some primo water, and one of the lakes is a managed LMB lake. I'm really excited but there is just one drawback... I won't get to peruse BassResource.com from the office anymore. (at least not anytime soon.) For all the prayers and well wishes, Thanks!! Imo, as soon as you use any cast control/brake/magnets/etc. you nullify anything extra you might have gained from the new bearings The only way you can actually gain from the use of any high grade bearings is if you have zero cast control set and no brakes and no magnetic cast control on. And then, you can't use your thumb to break either or you'll do the same thing. If you are only interested in making the reel feel super smooth than the nicer bearings might help.

Great fish no matter the weight... any of us would be happy to catch her! No way to tell for sure from a picture, but as said- easily 5-6 pounds. :-/ atta boy, way to encourage our younger, newer members to participate...

Sorry for the delay, I forgot about this thread. They are all over, kind of. I bet there is one within a 2 hour's drive of most places in the state. I'm sure there are more but here's a list to get you started... fairfield, tradinghouse (sometimes), bastrop, fayette county, coleto creek, brauning, calaveras, welsh, monticello, martin creek, brady branch, gramham, decker, gibbons creek I wouldn't make these a replacement for a Falcon trip, just a place (depending on your route) to stop and "stretch your legs" on the drive down!

Metal ferrules are stronger but the rods aren't any stronger. The 2 reasons I see them being used is uniformity/ease of fitting & cost. They do cause a flat spot in the action and that does increase pressure on either side of it.

Same here... awesome. Love it, especially for navigating at night, fishing/finding offshore structure and cover, and you can look over the 'map' without the wind tearing it up! : You can also drop waypoints or icons in with a simple touch of a button to mark spots... way nicer than throwing a marker buoy out and then finding a pen and the map. ...lol Speaking of which, you can have/use a marker on the screen and no one else sees a buoy.

As a part of my last job, we moved a large number of houses... it's a lot more common than you might think. We had to arrange to have the power lines and traffic signals moved as they passed and had police escorts, etc. Pretty cool to see.

I have a short list of builds for the cold weather... - MB843 (already started, just lack wrap and finish) -All Star 815 (will be built as a spinning rod) -9 wt. and 4 wt. fly rods -North Fork blanks (2 or 3) -working on some new comfortable spinning reel seats, work in progress. ...lol Lets hear it... what are you guys up to once the weather turns?

You can use it for everything you mentioned and more. Try a few different reels on it to see which gives you the best feel... it may feel more balanced with a different reel.

Not everyone. I've always had a dedicated t-rig rod... well for the last 20 years anyway. For that matter, I have a dedicated fluke rod, c-rig rod and a specific rod I like for senkos (although it's not dedicated) Reason being is that my t-rig rod is heavier than I would use for a fluke, senko, etc.

I can't believe this thread is still going... replacing the tiptop is a 1 minute job. 2 minutes for a beginner. And a good top only cost $2-$3, retail.
