A or C thread for fly guides?
Yes, A thread is plenty strong for an 8 wt. It will look better also. Finish magnifies so C and D look like rope under a good finish. ...lol Anyway, you'd have to be building some real heavy duty rods to need C or D. As a testimony to how strong A thread is- when I was testing out fly guides for spiral wrapped swimbait rods, I had them wrapped with A... in trying to get a guide to fail, i broke a XH blank twice, without hurting the guides... and the thread was just fine and it was unfinished.

Pistol Advice
I don't think they are any more or less safe than any pistol w/o an external safety.... if you pull the trigger, they go boom. The only real safety on a weapon is between your ears. From the glock website- Micro- off topic but are any of the compact glocks narrower than the rest? All the ones I've seen in person looked pretty thick.

Half of this is purely about what's comfortable and what you like. If you don't really like revolvers, that's totally cool. I happen to like them (the J-frames and equivalent) a lot for CC since they are so small and light. Hopefully you have a good range near you... all the big ranges down here have rentals... just about anything you might want, you can shoot before buying one. I'd start at a gun show or store and find 4-5 different models that feel good in your hands and are legitimately concealable and then head to the range to try them out. (or if you have any buddies that will let you shoot theirs at the range) Also you might look into the forums... there are a number of them dedicated to either- certain brands (glock, xd, S&W, etc.) styles (1911, etc) or concealed carry.

Yes, a good number of law enforcement uses 9mm... I also think it's the smallest caliber that any law enforcement uses. Smaller cartridges allow higher capacities in magazines... caliber choice is a never ending debate in most circles.

I don't know anything about Glocks... I think Micro is well versed in them. But if you generally like the glocks, also look at the XD's. for concealed carry or home protection or both? That can make a huge difference in recommendations. There are lots of trade-offs in size, weight, etc. punching paper means shooting at the range. Don't completely discount a revolver either... especially if you are new to guns. They are simple, reliable and some can shoot multiple calibers. .38/.357 .44spl/44mag (think light recoil/cheap for range use and premium, full power for home defense)

What´s wrong in here ?
You can even have fun safely, with beer. Speaking of which, how about the unrestrained cooler on the front "deck" and they are probably passing the camera boat too close for the speed they are going. One wave at a poor angle and the guy up front looses or breaks both of those rods.

Loomis warranty and pricing- the truth
I'd bet some cash that if they had IMX and GLX, they would still be offered. When your product is the industry's benchmark, there aren't many compelling reasons to discontinue making it.

Lure Pass #1 About to kick off!
You can skip the delivery confirmation if you insure it... they have to track it for the insurance. Although you won't get the email that it's been delivered, everyone along the way saves $2 on the shipping. And if it does get lost, you'll get confirmation from the next guy on the list that it wasn't delivered.

Looks very well done! I think new construction is easier than repair/mods. You get a clean slate and are only limited by your imagination.

Loomis warranty and pricing- the truth
I think what they have done is operate on a much thinner profit margin and made it up (and then some) on volume. Used to only be able to get IMX at a select few shops... now you can get them everywhere. Very true, but that's not what I was trying to address... the complaints usually stem from the Expediter service. Sometimes they charge you for the return shipping as well which ends up being more than the Expediter service since you have to insure the shipment for full value. (depending on the rod and your location) valid points, but not warranty related. (although I like raw blanks when you can't choose the colors!)

Self Adjusting cast control?
I've never used the DC... but according to the literature, the new versions are much better than the originals. I like my thumb... it even worked well with sub par reels so I know it works great with nice reels. ;D ;D

Loomis warranty and pricing- the truth
With some regularity, people bash Loomis and the cost of the warranty vs the cost of the rods... Let's take an honest look at G.Loomis's pricing and warranty situation: I know this has become a popular thought (that Loomis jacked up prices to cover the "Expiditer" warranty) but it's just not true. The cost of Loomis rods has been more stable than the cost of living index and inflation. The prices of the high end rods are within a few dollars of what they were almost 15 years ago, long before the Expiditer warranty was introduced. It's cheaper to buy Loomis rods now that ever before.... I bought a few IMX rods in May 1994 (I remember the date because I bought a boat that month) I paid: MBR784 $225 MBR785 $240 MBR844 $245 When you do the math, they have actually gotten much cheaper over time with inflation and cost of living. An IMX back then was about the equivalent of twice that price today. Now some will probably argue that they have been overpriced for all these years, but what they also don't know (or remember) is that 15 years ago, it was very hard to buy these rods because no dealer could keep them in stock. Demand was way ahead of production. Compared to the crap that we had back then, I was glad to pay the asking price... as they were light years ahead of most rods back then. If you don't want to buy or use Loomis, that's perfectly fine but lets not mix up fact and opinions. rant over. (this wasn't directed at any one person... the topic comes up quite often)

moving to skid row- updated! (on pg. 3)
Well, it is happening. Time to dust off the old resume and get a haircut! ...lol I'm trying not to look at it as a loss of a job, but rather a way for the good Lord to push me to where I'm supposed to be! He has always provided for us and I don't expect that to change. Luckily we have saved for such an "emergency" so things aren't dire by any means. I just hate to start running down the Emergency Fund. I'm excited to get moving and see where the new chapter will begin! I might have to curb my appetite for fishing/hunting/shooting gear for a while. :'(
