NEW world record bass caught lake biawa, japan!!!
Just my own opinion, the 2 ounce rules bites. Bigger is bigger. If a scale is certified, it should be considered accurate and an ounce bigger is bigger. Just another in a LONG list of reasons that the IGFA sucks. Their greatest claim to fame is that the manage to create controversy at nearly every turn. My only question about the fish is, in Japan- you'd think someone had a decent camera. :-? Why are there never good pictures of things like this?? The guy has a $200+ reel and a $20 camera. Hope is scale was more expensive. ;D I was never a skeptic, until I moved in here.

Another new St. Croix
Who told you that? Unless they have drastically altered the way they make the 09' models (blue and green) you have been fed a line. I can honestly say of all the rods I fish regularly, the SCV's (and SCIV) are not only some of the best, but among the toughest. But mine (SCV's) are the brown ones. Don't be scared of SCV...

Tow vehicle
That's a gigantic red flag.

Megastrike & JJ's Magic
Be careful... this could be like mixing bleach and ammonia!

Another new St. Croix
Looks good! Hope you love the blank. If I ever get caught up, I'll be building the SCV version of that blank. (for me!)

Daiwa Steez Vs. G-Loomis GLX
We are way off topic here and should have started another thread about a page ago but... It doesn't sound like I will sway your opinion on the merits of a true custom rod, and that's cool... I think you are probably a perfect candidate for the lifetime no-fault warranty. Factory rods aren't bad at all, but they are not the same. I do however, take exception to the term "phile." As for being a perfectionist at times, I'll accept that. If i was "normal" I guess I'd just wrap prefabbed and prefitted components on a blank with spacing charts for Daiwa or Loomis.

At least not anyone that knows squat about rods. ;D

Daiwa Steez Vs. G-Loomis GLX
Hmm... keep up this kind of crappy posting and I'll have Ryan send you his hoodie. : Why not just buy the kistler or zillion, if all you care about are the looks, problem solved.

How to practice casting
for sure! I never saw a dvd or read a book on casting.... Just go fish- you'll develop techniques that you need to get a bait where you want it. With the reels of today, it should be quick and easy to learn most casts.

Back problems when fishing.
According to several doctors I've seen over the years for back issues, the wrong boots/shoes can cause tremendous back issues... so the right pair can solve an equal number of issues. Simply wearing a different pair of shoes in the boat took care of most of my trouble. But don't neglect a real problem, get checked out and ask the Dr. about shoes.

Where are they??
Drop a minnow down on light line... just to see what they are. It's not cheating, it's research. ...lol

Super light weight Patriarch on its way
You guys are funny. What the brand loyal, debate teams are missing is that with every GOOD new reel that hits the market, your brand of choice has to do something to catch, surpass or compete with it. In the long run, it's a win-win for us, the consumers. So I hope the new Patriarch is a big hit... even though I seriously doubt I'll buy one.

Spooling a spinning reel
troll your line... regardless of what else you do. That alone will solve about 90% of your troubles.

Quality Reels & Rods @ a reasonable price
Gee thanks, Catt, if people read this- you've eliminated about 50% of the future threads on the forum. ;D In all sincerity, I agree with every item on your list, that I've used or own.

Tackle gadgets.
NN pliers scale camera The large (4D cell) line stripper is a life saver. It takes all of about 5 seconds to strip a reel. As a guy that changes line often (on 5-10 reels at a time) I can't think of a better "gadget" to own.

Cranking Rod
Spinnerbait, crankbait, topwater... decide which of the 3 you need/want most and buy it. Try it for the other techniques and see if it will work. Some people will say you need 3 seperate rods and others combine 2 or 3 in a single rod. But none of the responses will help you that much until you try it... since it's a feel and preference thing. To me, each of those is a separate rod, but each of them would also double with another technique, not listed.

finally got some pics of new "used" ranger

Anyone ever heard of..
Years ago, they were made with owner hooks. Not sure if that still the case, I don't see them locally these days.

Double footed guides?????
Doubles are rarely necessary, most of my own rods even have a single as the butt guide. I've tested them to the point of breaking a test blank, just to see if they'd hold. Backbone is a blank quality, guides won't change it enough for 99.9% of people to notice. As for why some companies use a bunch of doubles... 2 reasons- they look tougher, and take abuse better. (fewer warranty claims) Singles are fine for anything in bass fishing (except maybe a big, heavy swimbait rod) but they are bent/broken more easily when stepped on or thrown in a truck bed. As for sensitivity, less weight, thread and finish on the blank will actually help felt sensitivity... how much depends on a number of factors.

"monster fish" trev gowdy
I was surprised that they didn't at least edit it better. Chris- carp on the fly!! What a challenge- like freshwater bonefish. ....lol Funny timing, I missed about a 3 foot gar this morning on my flyrod...... just couldn't get turned around and to him fast enough. I thought for sure I'd get him but making a 90 degree turn with 60' of line out is tough with a 2nd fly fisherman in the boat. ...lol

ITS BUZZBAITN TIME-CAVITRON
Bobby, mostly it's preference but I built a dedicated rod specifically to throw 1/2 oz (lunker lures), since that was all I used. I fish buzzbaits pretty fast and "twitch" them rather forcefully, so I like the heavier weight to keep it running true and hook down. I rarely fish them slow. Also, fishing around here with the bluffs and narrow areas there is always a good bit of wind funneling down. I have a couple of the 3/8 cavitrons... they are great baits, no doubt, but just a little light for what I do. Just curious, does the 3/4 have even a bigger blade? (the 3/8 blade is plenty for a 1/2.) Thanks for your interest, Keith

"monster fish" trev gowdy
Happened to see the end of it earlier as they were bow fishing for big alligator gar... he shot about a 7 footer. And then made this big speech about catch and release and how good it feels to let a trophy go, as he released the fish. The only problem is that he shot it, right through the mid section and low (the gut area). And then cut out the arrow (off camera, the guide asks for a knife to cut out the arrow) because it wasn't a pass through where you can reverse the barb. I don't have a problem with bow fishing, if they take, keep, use or give away the fish- but I have a big issue with people shooting fish and "releasing" them for turtle food. What a disgraceful waste of a big, old fish. So the fish swam away... and lived long enough to get off camera... they said it was "fine." >

ITS BUZZBAITN TIME-CAVITRON
I guess that's a "no" on the 1/2 oz. baits. ...lol RW, I was tempted to get a pack of those squeeze on bullet weights... to snug one up to the head.
