G Loomis Pricing increase
It's long overdue... I bought a few IMX rods in May 1994 (I remember the date because I bought a boat that month) I paid: MBR784 $225 MBR785 $240 MBR844 $245 When you do the math, they have actually gotten much cheaper over time with inflation and cost of living. An IMX back then was about the equivalent of twice that price today.

More than 1/2 of mine or your posts. ;D

A nice little gift, I guess
X2 I have a couple of them, been using them trouble free for several years. Nothing fancy, just sold dependable reels. (and surprisingly smooth)

Rod Length and accuracy
control and skipping are different than accuracy. You probably skip in close quarters, which would lend itself to a shorter rod...

Marshal thrown from boat....Biffle and Jones penalized
Between rain, rooster tails, 70 mph, "quite a distance" and all those other boats, you sure paid good attention to the 3 or 4 boats involved... like you were psycic or something. : If they were going 70 as you say then it's probably a good bet they couldn't have stopped from "right behind" the incident... not actually hitting the marshall, or another boat in the chaos seems like helping out to me. You and the umpteen other boats that were further away had ample time to safely stop and render aid, without CAUSING further danger to the situation. Nope, I wasn't there but I haven't seen or heard any good info suggesting those two were "wrong", beyond the stop and render rule... but at what point do too many helpers cause more danger than the intent of the rule. That rule (which is law in most states) is on the books to keep people from being stranded out there without help, not to penalize a couple guys who in your own words were right behind it and lucky not to be involved.

Rod Length and accuracy
I see this quote all the time and it's just not usually true. By the way I mean no disrespect to those who have said it, I just think it's misunderstood. Those who claim this usually use shorter rods... but the claimed improvement in accuracy is a result of having used them more, not an actual by product of the tool. I used to use almost all 6'6" rods and was very accurate with them. I now predominantly use 6'10" and 7' rods and am just as accurate as I was with the shorter rods. It's what you are used to and use most often that gives the greatest accuracy. I suspect that holds true for *most of you, in *most situations.

Reference Catagory?
That's one of the few things I go to the BPS site for, they list it with about every reel. If they don't carry it, it's a crap shoot but mfr. sites and other retailers have some of the info.

Rod building starter kit help
I've seen a number of split grip handle kits but not rod kits. Search for "Lathe" in this section and you'll see some nearly free ways to set up a cork turning station so you can make your own split grip. Making the grip is a big part of the custom nature of a self made rod. If you use a pre-fab grip and don't spiral it, you might as well buy a rack rod... With a little extra research on the front end, you'll do much better than ordering a kit. (I still have never seen a kit with all the "right" stuff in it for a rod I'd like)

Out with the old, in with the new.
That experience is completely normal. Very few people ever have a problem with Gamakatsu hooks... that's why they are the 2nd most popular hook here. By almost all definitions, Gamakatsu hooks are great but Owners are just a 'little' better. (IMO)

Conspiracy?
You can find it pretty quickly in Genesis 1. ;D

Forum Dicitionary
I think they meant the spell check feature... since the words in the first few posts come up as misspelled: Senko, Mustad, crankbaits, crawfish, etc.

Out with the old, in with the new.
For a second I thought you were announcing that you took a job with Fedex! ;D on topic- I've been an owner guy for many years... they are as good as you hear.

Question about the new Core Mg50
I sure am... I totally forgot about the new creamy white Curado!! ;D My beef with the "new" core is that it's so close to the same as the original that it hardly warrants excitement. it holds way less line than the steez, so your turning less mass in the spool. Which is wonderful, if you like light line or use braid. :-X Want to trade a steez for a core? I hate to see you shorting your casts. I'll pick up shipping on both sides.

Carolina Rig Favs and Setup
lizards, craws, worms... some also like flukes and senkos. They will tell you pretty quickly, which they prefer. Lizards were always my #1 producer until I started fishing Belton, and here it's craws. (beaver types) I wouldn't use braid as a leader, but I don't even use it as a main line yet. ...lol

which Daiwa spinning reel...
I know, it's all in fun. I didn't want to imply that a Daiwa wasn't a nice reel... my favorite spinning reel is a TD Fuego But I'll be getting a new stradic to keep it company.
-
which Daiwa spinning reel...
The new stradic 2500 is much lighter than those- 7 oz. and my pflueger supreme xt 2500 is much lighter then that @ 6.5 oz. so nahnahnah haha. I tried looking it up but can't find that model, all I found was the 9025 which is an UL (120 yards / 4 Lb.) So if that's it, it compares to the stradic 1000 which is only 6.2 oz. (and if that's not it, let me know where I can find the other... )

Question about the new Core Mg50
I was prepared to buy several reels that replaced the 50MG but I already have a core and I wouldn't buy another at that price. There just isn't that much difference in the new core to justify it. To the contrary... I'll be buying a steez instead, because the new core isn't much different than the old core... which IMO is a nice reel but not really any better than the 50MG was and nothing worth $350. :-/ Yup, a 9+ oz. reel that doesn't do anything the Curado won't do. The Chronarch is actually the Zillion's best selling point. ;D Thank goodness the new stradic came out... otherwise it would have been a dismal showing for Shimano last week. Hey Bantam, you better tell them not to scrap the 50MG tooling... you guys might need to bring that one back later to save the day.

Quite possible the greatest College Football Player ever
You could say that about any great QB... But look at it this way- there are plenty of guys that have a great supporting cast that aren't great... why? Because, they just aren't great.

Need a guide recommendation near Branson, MO.
Need a little help from you Branson area members. One of my brothers and his wife will be out there and they want to take a day to fish. I assume Table Rock, but if there is a better option without adding much drive time, he'd be game. I don't even think he cares if it's a LMB or SMB trip, for that matter, as long as the fish are on, he'd probably go for hybrids, trout or whatever. I'm hoping we can give him a solid recommendation of a guide or two to call. Thanks for any help.

Can anybody help a newbie?
What's your approximate location? The easiest way to learn is to find some one to go with. You can learn more in a couple hours than in a full day of reading... Not to discount the articles but having a little basic knowledge will help you comprehend more in them. If you are near another member, I bet they would offer to hit the lake with you.

Question about Pros ???
Sorry, I just can't buy that. ...lol Come fish with me once, and I'll prove to you that even if you have hands of stone, a well designed and executed build is quite noticeably more sensitive...

Question about Pros ???
I doubt I can tell much (if any) difference between an Ugly Stick and a Carrot Stick. Are you color blind and illiterate? ;D ;D
