Any decent travel rods?
I bought a Penn 3 pc spinning rod about 8 years ago from bps... they had several brands and models at the time. I'd start there. If you really want to do it right, there are some great travel blanks available that you could make or have made. Of course most cars will easily accomodate a 2 pc rod under the back seat so you'll have a bunch of options in 2 pc. (low, mid and higher end)

I need your opinion!
Academy regularly carries All Star and keeps a good selection of the sub $50 rods.

advice on transporting /protecting rods
The idea is to prevent scratches and nicks that happen without notice... those are the places a rod will break later. Nothing worse than the bed of a pick up and several rods rattling around... the guide frames from one rod dinging up other rods. Same for a rod box that doesn't have separators. You just need to be careful and use some common sense for the big stuff like car doors and tailgates. The problem with the bazooka or PVC type is that it's not convenient for short trips... and then you won't use them. Your best be is a rod sock, stick jacket or nylon cover. They go on in 3-4 seconds and provide decent protection. You will actually use these. Nothing that you'll actually use will stop a tailgate. I use the covers from five.bass.limit (which I think are similar to stick jackets) and the cheap nylon covers from bps and cabela's. A cheap cover used all the time trumps a hard case use once in a while.

Bass Resource Elite Members ?
That's ok, I hear she's a little more challenging than Pettis!

For $50 or less, I'd be looking at All Star rods.

Sweet sassy molassy! Shimano cures all disease!
True... but I didn't mean ugly is good. These days, I do put thought into (the looks of) my builds... even the "stealth" rods are intentionally color coordinated.

Bass Resource Elite Members ?
Muddy, I think what he meant was that anyone who wanted to post up a profile or answer a set of questions could just post it, without being "officially nominated" with a title. Kind of like an expanded introduction. on a less serious note... Some would say that "we" already do that.

They could slap a paint job on the IMX and GLX but it would add tip weight and negatively affect the balance. Function over fashion is what made them the standard by which others have been judged for 20+ years. Fashion is great, only when it doesn't hurt function. (IMO)

THE ORIGINAL MUDDY VS THE TROLLING MOTOR STORY
The only thing funnier than muddy's version was hearing Ron, Brent and Russ tell it at the docks. All 3 were completely animated! ;D ;D ;D ;D

Bass Resource Elite Members ?
Yes, I was told it could continue with some changes. I'm absolutely thrilled that it will, and hope to be a long time participant. I'm still amazed that anyone could have a problem with it. People never cease to amaze me. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- back on topic... I'm only mildly surprised that some had problems with elite members... I think it takes a pretty high opinion of yourself to get upset for not being selected. To those that just weren't interested, they didn't have to read them. It's like an ugly stick thread... if you don't care, don't click. But don't ruin it for the rest of us. Maybe we could still profile some "average members" or perhaps tenured members once in a while. At least then, those of us who are interested can read them.

Bass Resource Elite Members ?
It's sad to me that a few desperate personalities can ruin good things for the thousands of others. Sort of reminds me of a certain honorary project that ruffled some insecure person's feathers. Pitiful. Hey- remember when you could just say BassResource.com isn't a democracy and tell someone to.... smile and worry about themselves.

G-Loomis having production problems?
I know we are off topic but why don't you guys who want loomis rods with a split grip, pony up and have one made? It's well worth your time and money... although once you have one, it would be one less thing you can complain about. ...lol On second thought, how bad do you want one? I might have a rod or two in the rack that would fit your likes... ;D

I like the Curado better in black
With no disrespect meant to you, your boss and the marketing guys... the North America business should ask for their (Japanese) input more often. They've had a few things that it seems "all" of us would have really liked. I'll wait for Icast though... just don't let me down (I'm already stashing cash in a separate account)

The Frugal Angler
Read the whole thing and then react.... By my interpretation, *** fits nicely into those qualifications of quality.

Rod Builders, I Need Help/Advice
It would probably cost you less to spec out a custom than to send that one for a complete rebuild. Seriously, the labor alone to strip it and start over would cover the labor and much of the materials of a new build. *My advice is always to keep the rod you like and build another... because there is always a substantial risk that the original blank will not survive the strip down. My option gives you 2 loved rods for only a few bucks more... the alternative could leave you with neither.

TheBeast should be burned at the stake for this...
Anyone with a little common sense knows why he did it... the Quantum reel covers do not offer much protection.

Sweet sassy molassy! Shimano cures all disease!
Burley, Bantam1 hinted that I needed to wait for Icast... and I was looking for a 50MG replacement... Perhaps there going to be a domestic version to be unveiled at the show. ? Save your pennies, bro, you can always circle back to this one!

What do you think the state would say if people wrote "pay you later" notes instead of checks when they owed money? :

Yo-Zuri UltraSoft #10 on Spinning Reel??
No one said anything about a 4000 sized reel... we all said 2500 (or 3000.)
-
Sensitivity, what's more important the angler or the pole?
There is no question that we all feel different things and different degrees of things... unfortunately for some... the most sensitive hands benefit the most from the more sensitive rods. Not real fair when you think about it but then not everyone has the mindset to throw spinnerbaits and rattle traps. In any case, I say it's the angler, not the pole that is most important. But having said that, a good rod can make a good worm or jig fisherman even better.

my bass boat's warning horn
Are you sure it's not compatible as opposed to the sensor is stuck/broken/wired wrong? Is your battery charged? My warning horn will go constantly if the ignition is turned on when the battery is almost dead.

Yo-Zuri UltraSoft #10 on Spinning Reel??
Horrible To clarify a little... I tried #8 and #10 ultra soft on a spinning reel (2500 and 3000 sizes) and it would literally jump off the spool. It was bad. I can say that I ended up using #10 sufix elite (in the red box) with great results. It was more manageable than the ultra soft #8. The straight line break strength is probably less but still under rated and the abrasion resistance was very good. I have been using this line on my spinning reels for 3 years now with no complaints at all. It's the toughest line I've used that is nice and manageable on a spinning reel.

(Problem Resolved) Got 2 Legend elite rods today from Reed's Excitement and Disappointment all in 1
Man, ain't that the truth! Never accept less than you pay for, never... 8-) The above it so true. Now to the root of the problem (...lol) I have a hard time understanding how you or anyone (except Raul or Redlinerobert) could drop $300 for a "pretty" rod. :-* ;D This is tongue in cheek so don't take it as a bash.
