  1. I thought it was a new or almost new reel? Obviously they serviced it- since it now works properly... should still have been pretty clean since it was so new, right?
  2. I like the idea to directly compare some specific rods- $$$ vs $ for same applications.
  3. If I were in your shoes, I might look at a 7' H rod to pull multiple technique duty as a frog/jig/small swimbait/ledgebuster/big t-rig rod. (actually I use a H for c-rigs too) At least 3 of your other rods would be fine with jerkbaits/flukes so I'd skip that idea. The other option is to think of your best few techniques and if any two will work on the same rod, replace the one you currently use with something upgraded. Just thinking out loud
  4. Mike, are you originally from WV? I'm amazed that you just now figured out that we had a smallie forum. ;D ;D It's only been, what? 2 years or so?
  5. There is no shame in being a bargain shopper. 1 reason I started the thread was to encourage people to set a little money aside now for purchases to be made later. Or as you mentioned, if a good deal comes along, you'd have the money to jump on it. Also, I hope you didn't misunderstand me about quality. Yes, I like some high end stuff but a few rods I still use are built on $15 blanks and I wouldn't trade them for new GLX rods. There are several low cost rods that fill needs as well as high cost rods. That's probably for another thread, though. ...lol
  6. And to think, all along, I thought the loss was measured in Soldiers, injured and killed. I hope you didn't mean it this way but you sound as if the tragedy of war is the inconvenience on your wallet. :-/

Congrats!! One hint for now... never pass up an opportunity to nap in the 8th or 9th month, because you will get no notice and very few 1st time moms go into labor at a convenient time! ...lol Prayers for a safe, healthy pregnancy!!!!
  8. He should be thanking me... by doing it this way, I actually can afford to buy more and more often. Raul, We all love a deal, and I was only suggesting that by saving a little while before shopping, you could buy what you want even if a deal wasn't waiting for you. I think you got my point but just making sure.
  9. I have seen a lot of people in the past year posting that they want to replace all their rods/reels or both, and usually money is a big factor... especially when you need to buy several at a time. Why do people replace a whole slew of rods/reels at one time? Why not buy what you want or like best, one at a time as you save the money? Very few of us got to IMX or GLX more than one at a time. I don't even think $$Redlinerobert$$, $$roadwarrior$$ or $$Raul$$ buy multiple high end rods/reels at one time. (at least not regularly) Sorry guys, you are just the 3 best known examples that jumped to mind. Sure, that first IMX rod will make the others feel crappy, but that is great motivation to save faster for the next rod. I think most people will have trouble upgrading the stable if they go at it all at once. There is no shame in having an envelope, mason jar, savings account or whatever you use to stash a few $ away in. You'd be surprised at how quickly lunch money can turn into Loomis rods... trust me, that's where my first 3 came from. Now that I'm ahead of the game, I still set aside a few $ each and every payday for new rods/reels, etc. or whatever I might want. So when that new reel is out, I can just go buy it. Or when I see a good deal on something, I can take advantage of the opportunity. It makes things a whole lot easier. * my disclaimer- this is in NO WAY intended to promote high end gear- I love value as much as anyone. I just hate seeing people compromise on equipment purchases because what they want is a little out of reach, regardless of the starting price.
  10. I had a rod rack mounted to the interior roof of the cap in my old truck. They sell a few kinds now for suburbans and the like. Several options. That's usually the best way... if it's an ext. cab, and if your girl will be careful of treble hooks. I got in big trouble over a rapala minnow one time.
  11. farmpond, We agree, and for the reasons you point out, this is the only fishing forum I regularly participate in. I wasn't questioning the site, the mods or freedom, as I also am quick to point out to people that this site isn't a playground for first amendment liberties. The path I was taking was as someone else mentioned, on rare occasion I think one gets locked up to quickly. I hope you read it as I intended it... I wasn't questioning thread locking, just that I've neve seen one unlocked. And wasn't sure there was even a "review" once one was locked. Good to know. And to publicly acknowledge this- you have always responded to PM's where a question was asked. And I'm also a line biter... have ben since I was in gradeschool. My dentist hates it and showed me where I have worn serveral previously pointed teeth flat! I'm learning to use clippers... it's just hard to break the habit. ...lol peace out!
  12. Mine is minor- when people use the word "structure" instead of cover. Colors are goofy, but as long as they look similar from company to company, I don't really care. OK, since you brought it up. ;D I've tried a few times but have yet to get anything unlocked... and now that you mentioned it, I don't think I've ever seen one unlocked. The closest was when you (or another mod) said another thread could be started. Is it really more than a click or two to unlock one? :
  13. impressive max resistance number, but a total deal breaker, since its not adjustable. If that's true, don't buy this reel unless you have a 100% free lifetime replacement warranty on your rod. :-X
  14. Laws vary by state. However, when I worked at an apartment complex, about 75% of the time we filed for eviction (which was fairly cheap at the time) the people moved out in the middle of the night, within a couple days. The worst thing you can do is wait... because the judge has final say in how fast they leave. If he or she puts a good sob story on, the judge can give them more time. (I've seen it as long as 90 days after the 45 days to get a court date!) And the one guarantee is that they will not pay any rent while this is going on.
  15. Thanks for the vote of confidence. I used an All Star Classic c-rig rod for over a year after I started building rods... I was in no hurry to replace it because it is a quality rod.
  16. Not so "smart carry" http://www.ksla.com/Global/story.asp?S=9871071&nav=menu50_2 The highlights: Good holsters and good training go a long way.
  17. Sorry fellas, you can't just claim to be a Mook.... you have to be named so, by the Duke of Mook... it's sort of like being Knighted. : ;D I'm unsure if you can have a Curado and still be a Mook. Sounds like a call for the rules committee... again, that's a solo position, held by the Duke of Mook.
  18. retiredbosn, Where did this info come from? --------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm glad you mentioned strain rate, because brittleness comes up fairly often and is very misunderstood. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Also as a general warning, the article you referenced was written by Craig Baugher... both he and his article have been shot full of holes. He is famous for misquoting and incorrectly taking info from the interviewee and getting the article wrong. Do a search if you need more info. I hope this doesn't become a can o' worms.
  19. She did good... that much effort says a few things about how she feels about you!
  20. They are pretty good rods... best $50 rods I have ever seen. They also go on sale about every month or so.
  21. So I'm not all negative, I like the 10 minutes worth of fishing that i saw!! ;D
  22. I was surprised at how little fishing they showed... the day one coverage was incredible... less than 10 minutes of actual fishing in the first hour!! They had the footage, why not show it? And to add insult to injury, the 2nd hour was a re-run of the first. I didn't watch any more after that.
  23. Done right, there is nothing wrong with swinging a fish. Swing it over the boat and grab the fish or line on its way in... Done right, the fish never touches the carpet. If the fish is too big to catch on the way in, reach over the side and lip it.
  24. GLX is worth the price, but I wouldn't buy a spinning rod in GLX. That's just me- I don't think you get the best out of it in a spinning rod, due in part to the reel seats. My personal opinion is that the casting rods allow you to feel all the GLX has to offer. I would (and have) buy the spinning rod in IMX.
  25. Natural, My prayers for your marriage. I firmly believe that love is a choice. It's also a lot of work... If it were easy, no one would divorce. I sincerely hope that each of you decides that it's worth it to continue to INVEST in the marriage. Sounds like there has been a lack of investment in one or more areas (emotion, time, effort, selflessness, etc.) over the last year(s). Been there myself. A counselor can guide you two through it, fairly easily and quickly... then you just need to commit to putting in the effort to "fix" it. I have a much better marriage now, having had the trouble earlier on and addressing it. Think back to when you dated... all the time you spent together, not just 'around' each other and compare the attention you paid to her then vs. now. When I did, it was easy to see the we had both changed our ways. I've also learned that when I change my behavior, hers follows suit. Hard to do sometimes but making the first move usually works... even if it's not your "fault." Best of luck to you, Keith
