  1. 3 posts and 2 of them mention this... somehow I missed it got the link???
  2. total bummer for me... out store was greatness!! I'll miss it for sure.
  3. It sounds like Burley's dream. ;D ;D *edited for decency
  4. What little I read suggested poor eating habits... not a balanced portion of meat in a decent meal. Eat a piece of fish with all the crap that accompanies what they studied and fish would be the cause of higher risk. I think regional and environmental influences are far greater. Down here, living well into your 90's isn't unusual at all. Red meat is required at almost every meal. ..lol Steak and eggs for breakfast... chicken fried steak for lunch and ribeye's on the grill for dinner isn't out of the ordinary. Red meat only = death for the cows, not people. Whoever funded that study should demand a refund. ;D
  5. I was going to say a 6'6" med., but since you already have a med., I'd get the 6'6"MH. Just as a general observation, the heavier rods in shorter lengths usually feel lifeless like a broom handle. The extra length makes a big difference.
  6. sad, senseless and just awful. Quotes like this confuse me: Wouldn't it be more likely that (if anyone involved was racist) it would be the mass murdering perpetrator, who killed 4 over a traffic stop? I'm sure he had a permit to carry that gun also. :Are the officers supposed to say, "hold your fire, we're calling a black officer to participate in the gunfight" as the shooting starts??? The media makes me crazy sometimes.
  7. The only surprise in that story is that you are still buying from bps.
  8. It's always best to try them... if you can find someone with what you want, they will usually let you try them out for a spin. Back when I bought my first high end rod... there were only a couple choices. I didn't know anyone personally using high end gear so I bought blind. Most of the talk was of Loomis IMX, so I tried one.... and then another and another and another... That was in the early 90's. these days I don't have to save 2 months lunch money for a nice rod or reel so I buy something new (usually a reel) every month or two and sell what I don't like. I use more Shimano reels than other brands, but not because I'm "loyal"... they just happened to make a few models that fit my hand and my preferred features/specs better than the others I have bought recently.
  9. Meat grows pretty well already, no?
  10. Good idea, I'd love to... what's your password? ;D
  11. Bizz, that looks like the same footage I saw on tv a year or so ago... the guy interviewd said it had been shot once already and they were after it for a follow up or just to retrieve it. Obviously the first shot wasn't well placed... or they rushed up on it right away.
  12. it appears that it worked for almost a year.
  13. Yes, it was Belton. It seems like we have a couple every year. We already had one at Stillhouse (5 miles away) this year. My boat has the older style kill switch where there is a manual switch, and if the "ring" is pulled free the toggle switch is flipped. So anyone could flip it and be back in service.
  14. Yes, we pick up a few hours of light in the summer. In about june, we can launch at 5:30-5:40 am and see... and it gets dark after 9:30 pm. In the short months, it's like 7am to about 5pm. A huge difference for those of us that fish weeknights after work... I can get 4+ hours of light in summer and it's dark before I get home from work in the winter.
  15. Maybe there should be a semi annual quiz on the FAQ's... fail it and lose posting privileges until you pass it. ;D Although with my history, I might not pass even though I read them. :
  16. There was an accident the other day on our home lake... still one body that's not been recovered... sadly, it's the brother of someone close. I hate reality checks like this. Please be careful on the water guys, it happens WAY to often. :'(
  17. the answer is not in a reel's design, shape or spool width. A pitch is simply an underhanded cast so whichever of the two you cast better will probably be the one you pitch better.
  18. Forgot to mention...... with spinning gear- troll your line regularly to eliminate twist and to help it behave better.
  19. As stated something went wrong. I'm inclined to think it was either a cut in the line (possible cause by some cover) or something J Franco pointed out. Also I wouldn't usually lift fish by the line. Earlier in my life, I broke a lot of 4-6 lb fish off trying to lift them (even on #14 and #17 XT). Take a 6' piece of your line and tie on a 2 lb weight... put a glove on your hand and try picking up the weight and bounce it a little. There is a huge difference between handling 6 lbs of pressure and handling a couple pounds jerked up into the air. (which quickly becomes several times it's own weight in pressure.)
  20. Did you try the email link? Maybe he's opted not to participate here any more, and if so he'll never get a PM. If his email address is still valid, you might reach him that way.
  21. A regular short bed will hold up to an 8' rod if you lay it diagonally.
  22. Had to be a Lazerlure... because just like the commercial says... "cats can't resist a lazer" :-?
  23. Thank goodness you remembered your "Lucky Hat" (it's greatness!)
  24. Sweet! Great looking fish!
  25. Is it still a shill bid if the bidder would happily buy the item for the bid amount? for example, I'll admit I have done it but for a bow that was worth a couple hundred bucks, I made a single bid like $50 and would have been thrilled if no one outbid me on it. ;D When I buy, I place a max bid of what it's worth to me and leave it at that... if I win, great, if not- oh well.
