  1. For weightless Texas rigs, I love my MBR842CGLX. For weighted T-rigs, its the 843C.
  2. I've never fished with a Mojo, but the Avid is worth every penny of it's asking price. I would recommend it any day. If you keep an eye on the flea market, you could find one for the price of a new Mojo.
  3. I would seriously consider a used Stradic FJ. I have a couple of the original Stradic CI4 reels and like them. But I have bought a couple of the FJs and like them just as much. They really aren't that much heavier in the grand scheme, and are just as smooth. To boot, they can be found for around $100-120 if you are patient. They won't disappoint you. Dave
  4. I've never used the Chronarch. But I loved my Core so much I gladly traded a Steed for another one and haven't looked back. Get the Core, you'll be glad you did.
  5. I have the Scorpion XT 1001 and the new Scorpion 71HG. If I were to buy another, it would be the XT 1001. The 71 is a nice reel, but it's got a few more moving parts with the different brake systems and such, and I'm still working on dialing it in after a month of fishing with it. With XT 1001, it took me almost no time to dial it in, and I don't have to mess with it any more.
  6. I would also consider buying used. This morning I bought a St Croix Avid 7' MHM cranking rod bought new from Tackle Warehouse last week from a guy for $126 shipped. I would recommend that rod over any mentioned here all day long. When buying used, check the sellers feedback and always use paypal "goods or services" option to protect you. I have been buying used for years, to include St Croix, Loomis, Daiwa, and Shimano, and have always gotten better than,i expected when I bought the item. Keep an eye out on the flea market here and other forums.
  7. For the plastics, I would definitely go with the 68MXF. I have a Legend Elite 68MXF spinning rod I use for Senkos exclusively. It is an awesome rod for that. As for the reel, for your use I would go with the 3000. If I'm not mistaken, the reel body is the same size, but the spool is deeper and thus holds more line for your striper fishing. But as someone else mentioned, I would go with the Sustain or even the new Stradic FK and save enough on the reel alone to almost get another full combo. Dave
  8. I would seriously consider picking up a used Daiwa Pixy off the bay. Some nice ones are available now for around $150-175 shipped. Fantastic reel at that price and wouldn't need the upgrades.
  9. The 50E can easily handle the heavier stuff. Buy and use with LOTS of confidence!
  10. Anyone know of any? Thanks, Dave
  11. For those that have fished both, shock would you choose if you could have only one of them and why? Thanks, Dave
  12. I generally have about 10-14 rods in the boat with me. 2-3 different crankbait rods 2-3 different plastics rods Swimbait rod Buzzbait/spinnerbait Dropshot Frog Topwater Jig
  13. What rod and line do you guys fish this thing on?

Your baits look incredible!!! I would like to try my hand at making some cranks. I've bought some balsa, but have no cedar. What type of cedar do you use and where do you get it? Thanks, Dave
  15. I was throwing spinnerbaits on a MHF spinning rod with my Stradic 2500 CI4. I liked the feel of the combo, but felt like I was overworking the feel a bit. I switched it out with a Stradic 2500FJ and it feels much better. But I love the CI4 for just about any other application.
  16. Fishing is better there now. Some friends and I went to Sandy and Briery this past weekend. We fished Briery Friday and Saturday mornings and Sandy both evenings. Between us we caught well over 100 bass in the two days. Most were in the 2+ pound range, with probably 10-12 over 3 and half a dozen over 4. I was also lucky enough to catch a 7 pounder Friday night at Sandy and a 6 pounder first thing Saturday morning at Briery. So the fishing is picking up. Give it another try soon.
  17. I like their XXX Mono that comes in a green and black box, but since I found Sunline Super Natural Mono, I haven't gone back to the Spiderwire.
  18. Ffo Tackle.com has Fenwick Aetos 6'4" MXF for $75 and the Elite Tech Smallmouth 6'9" MHF for $74.88. PLUS, they currently have a coupon code for buy one get one half off too. It does NOT have to be two of the same model. Just two rods. Fantastic prices for that level of rod. So you could buy 2 Great rods for your $150 and have some money left over for line or lures.
  19. What rod do you all use to fish this with?
  20. Thanks for all the feedback, everybody! I'm going to check out the MinnKotas. Dave
  21. I just bought a used 2004 Skeeter SX190. I'm looking to upgrade the current 2-bank on-board charger. Can anyone recommend a decent one that won't break the bank? I'm thinking maybe $200? Thanks, Dave
  22. You can get a 6'10" MHM Elite Tech Smallmouth for $75 at ffo tackle. Less of the have a coupon. I got mine for $69.99 shipped after a discount coupon. The rod is worth every penny. Love it.
  23. Nice! I'd double your money if you send me the St Croix! Lol!
  24. I recently sold both of my Steez reels for this very reason. I didn't want to take a chance on ruining them fishing in brackish water. These days, it isn't difficult to find good reels that you don't have to do any more than rinse off after fishing. Why risk it?
