  1. I was thinking the same thing. Where did you find that?!
  2. A new Maryland state record bass over 11 pounds was caught in a small farm pond just last fall, so I would say yes.
  3. You might be better off posting this question in the Southeast subforum.
  4. I used it a couple years ago to spool a new reel I bought on a fishing trip. I won't replace my Sunline with it, but for that price it's a decent line.

This is good advice if you haven't made a decision yet. My wife bought the LCR in .357. It's ok shooting .38, but the recoil shooting .357 seriously wears me out. She fired one .357 round through it and unloaded the rest before reloading .38. But she loves shooting .357 in my GP100.
  6. A professional repair of one guide likely won't cost near a much as the discount. I have one of those and it is one of my favorite rods. Very versatile and well worth it's retail price.
  7. For spinning, I have a custom built 6'10" MLF St Croix SCV with a TD Sol 2000 on it. Casting is a Loomis MBR842C GLX with a PX68L PixZilla.
  8. I tried that once. It turns a Minus 1 into a true wake bate. You really have to crank that handle like crazy to get it even 6" below the surface.
  9. I've got a nephew stationed at McGuire whose favorite rod has had the cork dry rot off. He would like to get it replaced but doesn't have a lot of extra money to pay to ship a rod. So I'm hoping there is someone relatively close to him that could replace the cork for him, which he would be happy to pay for. Thanks, Dave
  10. Yep G Loomis MBR842C with a Daiwa PX68L St Croix Legend Xtreme 7'1" MHXF with a Core 51Mg7
  11. If I had my own fishing show, I would want to use Brad Paisley's "Catch all the fish, drink all the beer"!
  12. I bookended the offseason with a rod at the end of last year, and now this reel at the beginning of this year. I wouldn't think of violating a golden rule!
  13. The bait monkey delivered my JDM Scorpion XT 1001 yesterday. Pretty sweet reel. On the box, it says "with SUPER SHIP". Does anyone know if thIs is the same thing as X-SHIP? Thanks, Dave
  14. I have used their warranty service twice now, and both times it went off without a hitch. And they now have the FedEx shipping service, which cuts shipping costs in half. Good deal, great company! Enjoy the new rod!
  15. I love my Elites and Xtremes enough that I don't see myself ever going back to the Avids. The Avid is a great rod, but in my mind it's nowhere near the same class as the Elite/Xtreme rods.
  16. It depends on rod quality. St Croix makes a 2-pc Legend Elite rod that I love. I honestly can't feel a difference between it and my Elite 1-pc rods. I imagine if you get down into the BPS rods, or St Croix Triumph series, it wouldn't be nearly as seamless going from a 1-pc to a 2-pc.
  17. I do really still like the old 300. On top of that, I haven't found too many new reels with a low retrieve ratio. Most I've seen seem to be well over 5 or 6:1.
  18. Thanks! The knob on the handle I have is held on with a screw. I took it off the handle to clean it all up before I spooled up the reel. That might make things a bit easier since I can use the original screw.
  19. So, for some reason, I can't bring myself to fish spinnerbaits with a baitcast reel. I use a bc for almost anything else, but don't like it for spinnerbaits. So, in an effort to maintain a low retrieve speed, I turned to an old Mitchell 300 spinning reel that has a 3.75:1 ratio (I haven't measured the IPT yet). Anyway, I forgot how uncomfortable the twist handle knob is on those things. Has anyone found or made their own aftermarket knob for their 300? It can be a paddle type or round, I don't care, just looking for ideas before I take a stab at it on my lathe. Thanks, Dave
  20. Some friends and I are looking at taking a weekend fishing trip in early May to Briery Creek Lake. We went there last June for a weekend but didn't have the best of luck. However, as promising as the place looks, we have the urge to try again. Can anyone provide any insight to fishing the place? Thanks in advance, Dave
  21. Will do. Thanks!!
  22. MD guys, I'm in Southern MD, normally fish St Mary's lake, Gilburt Run, and sometimes the Potomac. Looking for someplace different for a weekend trip early May timeframe. Anybody fish Briery Creek Lake in Farmville, VA? If so, what can you tell me about it? Thanks, Dave
  23. I dont' quite agree with this. I own a G Loomis MBR842C GLX, a SC XC70MF, and used to own a Loomis MBR843C GLX. The St Croix is much closer to the 842 than the 843. And my XC71MHXF might be a LITTLE heavier power than the 843 was, but definitely not a full power. Just my thoughts, YMMV. Dave
