  1. I am going to 85 in a couple of weeks & not close to to figuring it out. Been looking at other sites & found a couple that I can use.
  2. I am a Shimano guy & I have looked at the all new one's but I feel it's hard to beat the Metanium 100 series. I really like the 101 & will get 1 or 2 more.
  3. The best thing I do is sleep. I can be sleeping by time my head hits the pillow.☺️
  4. I have several DC reels, They shine on windy days. They do come with a heavy price tag though for something that you might only use when the wind is up. I have a couple of the 21 Scorpion DC reels that gets the job done.Digitaka has a few in stock for $210 shipped.here is some info.
  5. Two of my favorite baits for this are the Heddon Baby Torpedo & the Smithwick Devils Horse
  6. Ol'Crickety that is a very good post & you are so right, It's old school.I still fish like that & at about the same times also. I started bass fishing in 69 no not 1869. I still use many of the same baits, they still catch fish. I wonder how many that read your post will try it. If they don't they will miss out.
  7. War Eagle
  8. I happen to use Dobyns Rods. I was surprised that the 734 snap during casting a spook. I have a couple of The Champ XP DC 735 F/H as well as the Champ Extreme HP DX 745 C F/H. I use Shimano 22 Bantam XG on those rods. The XP 734 is a very good rod so depending on what you it for it might be better & cheaper to replace it. For the up grade I use the XP DC 735 F/H in light to moderate cover fishing moving baits. Frogs up to 1/2 oz, swim jigs, snakes & some bottom baits For heavy cover I switch to a XP DC 736 F/H, good power I can fish a 3: 16 no bull frog with it but mostly with 3/4 & 1 oz. frogs. the Extreme HP DX 745 C F/H, sensitivity is very good. I use it for many baits. I like for Carolina rigs for the long cast & good sensitivity. I suggest you call Brice at Dobyns Rods 903 919 8028 & speak with him about the rods. tell him some Sub Sailor wants to know if you woke him from his nap.
  9. If the 1 you found in Charleston is Skips Propeller service on Cross County Road you will be in good hands
  10. I fish the Dark Sleeper & will do so with the Sleeper Craw also during our Winter time ( I fish year round) but I doubt if the water temp gets as cold. the coldest I have fished with it at 44 degrees & was skunked.. In Jan & Feb it gets into mid 40's. I like to swim the Dark Sleeper & don't get hung to often ( have not lost one yet). The rig I use is a Dobyns Champion XP DC 734 C F/H with a Shimano Bantam CU-B38 spooled with 14 lb Gamma High Performance Copolymer. When using on the bottom my rig is a Dobyns Champion Extreme HP DX 745 C F/H with a Shimano 22 Bantam XG left spooled with 17 lb Gamma High Performance Copolymer. Every time out I fish it both ways until the fish tell me which one to use.
  11. I have just recently purchase a Dobyns Champion Extreme HP DX 746FH, & a Shimano Metanium 101 XG. This is a real sweet set up. When I was growing up I was taught the rod catches the fish & the reel stores the line & reels the fish in. I still go for the rod for the sensitivity. You also need a good reel for it's casting, drag, smoothness, balance etc. The times do change.
  12. Chasing wild women, I can not run as fast as I use to.
  13. I use it for Texas rigs & Carolins rigs, spinnerbaits & buzzbaits, jigs, Frogs & Toads. You have made a very good choice. I use a slower speed reels for crank baits
  14. I know I have lost my reaction time. I'll be fishing rig & looking around, maybe at a gator. Then all of a sudden a sign will pop out the the water that says Hey dummy I have picked up this worm twice & spit it out. I don't like the taste so change it next time. Since you are asleep go home & go to bed.?
  15. 22 Shimano Bantam XG 50 lb Sunline FX-2 Dobyns XP 736c FH. I frog fish in heavy cover on Santee Cooper & this set up gets the job done.

I always have a 4 inch Brush Hog & a 6 inch Lizard rigged & on deck (both are Zooms). these will make you smile when using them in shallow cover.
  17. I prefer a light to medium rain which causes a overcast sky. I do fish a Frog some every time I am on the water
  18. Jar11591 that was a excellent answer!!! Depending on how heavy the cover is you could be surprised how well a spinnerbait will work doing the same thing.
  19. Some excellent Info, glad it was posted.
  20. If you want a rod for flipping & Pitching Get the Dobyns Champion XP DC 736 C FH. That is what that rod is designed for. It works great. I like it for frog fishing also. I have 3 of them & at least keep 2 on deck when fishing
  21. Sunline makes a band that goes around the bottom the handle that has the pound test on it. That works well for me & is simple enough. I would much rather fishing than being on a computer logging a bunch info that is probably not used much. The best way to learn to catch fish is time on the water.
  22. Thank You I though that but was not sure & did not want to short something out. Some days I have to check my ID to see who I am. Thanks Again
  23. I have a Minn Kota Maxxum Pro 101 & have drawn a blank on how to hook the 3 batteries to the trolling motor. Since this heart attack I have problemsr remembering things. Thanks for your help.
