I have one 6' power pole so when I am fishing large flats of lily pads or other grass cover I put the pole down. This lets the boat swing while I fan cast. This lets me cover a large area with out disturbing it. I pull the pole up & let the wind blow the boat in & put the pole down & start fan casting. I use this method every time I frog fish & I feel It improves my catch ratio. When they are bedding I put a lizard on & do the same thing & catch fish.

I leave my battery charger on 7/24 since 2000. I bought a Ranger 185 VS in 2002 & it was a 3 battery boat. The boat was 35 feet from the outlet & had a built in 10 amp 3 bank Minn Kota charger. The extension cord is a 50 ft 12 gauge When I come off the lake the 1st thing I do is turn off the circuit breakers & plug the charger in. The batteries are the lead acid type & I would get between 5 & 6 years out of them. When Installing the batteries I put a brass washer on the post 1st. then the cables that are to be put on that post than another brass washer than the nut then some grease. I have found this works better than the pads you can buy to help with corrosion. I check the water once a month & once a week when the Temp. is 80 plus In 2008 I bought a Ranger Z-21 which has bulit in 15 amp 4 bank Minn Kota charger. When I change my car & truck batteries I do the same thing when installing them.

LouadmouthShad I did not mean your answer was not good, Many people fish them like you stated. When I am fishing a spinnerbait(which is often) I find the fish by varying the angle of the rod tip & speed of the bait. Once I have caught a couple of fish I now have a depth to work in.

I would choose a Dobyns Champion HP DX 745C F/H With a Shimano Bantam XG. This would allow me to fish several types of cover with a different styles of baits

That I'll be 84 in a couple of weeks( my Dad starting me fishing when I was 5). I have a 2008 Ranger Z21 that I can still load & unload & remove & put on with out help. Both My Cardiologist did not want on the lake without someone with me. Last Wednesday I told the one That I have had enough of all this c--- & I was going by self when no body could go. I told him the worst thing that could happen was I would fall out of the boat & be lunch for a gator. He laughed & said your not sitting around & waiting but enjoying life while you still can. As a side note in 2018 I had a massive heart attack& they didn't think they would get me to the hospital alive. I was out blood to the right side of my heart for about a hour & 50 min counting the ride in the ambulance ride. My heart pump is now up to 50% so I am done being house bound. So what ever happens I have had a good ride!

I would use no less than a 5 power rod for what you stated the cover was you were fishing. Use a high speed reel so when you set the hook start reeling to try to keep the fish from getting down into the cover where they a better chance to get off. I only fish a 6 power when Frog fishing so I get a better hook set.

I have 2 DX 743, 2 DX 744, # DX745 & without a doubt go with the DX 745. I use mine for exactly what you are looking to use it for. These are excellent rods you will not go wrong with this rod.

Cbump. We are in the same boat The big girls are moving in & have the feed bag on. I have seen 8+ to 12+ brought to the scales I have 2 Cardiologist That do not want me out in the boat . I just got my heart pump working to 45 to 50% . I am very lucky to be having this discussion with all of you. Heck I am single & I accuse them of wanting me to wear a face mask in my house. I am a very high risk. GetFishorDieTryin the back ordered item ( frogs) was cancelled that same time. At this point my bank is taking care of this. they have the necessary paperwork needed to handle it. When the package arrives at the office the girls at the front desk know to write return to sender on the package & give it back to the carrier.

It was my favorite also they carry everything I use & never had much of a problem. My problem is it has been 9 months since that order! When I review the order I told the person not to back order the frogs & just let me know when they are in in case I did not find them else where. I was in a major tackle shop in Myrtle Beach & they had them. So I have had them since the end of 6/22. I have never heard from them about this until the email I received this past week. When I spoke with the 2nd person who was in Ca. told me that They are suppose to contact the person after 6 months to see if it is still wanted. My card is on file so it was charged without permission & sent. I have already talk with my bank about the charge & they have taken the steps necessary to fix it. I am going fishing for a couple of weeks. The girls at the front desk at my office know not accept the package & to write returned to sender on it. I feel sure most of you would have the same thoughts that I have after being surprised after 9 Months. I appreciate all of your feed back. What would you do if it were you after 9 months. I have been a customer for a very long time & never had them charge my card without my permission.

This is unbelievably. In June of 2022 I placed a order with them. When I reviewed the order I saw one of the frogs was back ordered. I told him to cancel that one but notify me when you get them & if I have not found it elsewhere I'll re order it. A few days ago I get a e-mail saying I have a package on the way. I call & get a person In Ga. & he checks it out & tells me I have no orders pending so nothing should be coming.. The next I get another e-mail telling it's a back order & gives me the order #. I call again & get someone in Ca. & talk with that person the order #. That is when I found out it's the Frogs from June of 2022. & it was being sent by mail from & I would have it 7 to 14 days. At that point the conservation went south in a hurry. I will be calling Monday to tell a supervisor what is going to happen.?

Yes. I all my DC reels are JPN they have IDC5 instead of the IDC4. In the last couple of weeks I have purchase a Bantam & a Metanium & saved a good bit. I used Digitaka They have free shipping & I had the reels in my hand in 4 days, you can't beat that.

I agree with Catt had to say. I think you let it fall to the bait hits the bottom let it sit for a minute, reel it in & cast it again. The idea is to have fish hit it on the fall. I don't think this is much good in shallow water. Most likely in 8 to 20 ft. Does anyone know where to get the weights to use?

Lookie here young lady I assume those temps are the highs for the day If that is the case That Temp is somewhere between 1 & 4pm so the water temp will not increase much at all. It might take 3 to 4 days to come up a degree depending what the lows are. So go to the northern side of the pond & cast a 1/4 oz spinner bait up on the bank & bring back to the water. when is in the water give a couple of small pops & then bring it back to you slowly. Make sure you are not to close to the bank as the fish will spook easily. You could try a jig & a jerk bait also but be careful because a splash will spook them. This past Saturday a friend of mine caught a 8 lb bass in less than a foot of water & a 10+ lb in 3 feet. I saw the proof. The water temp was 51. I am going to see my Cardiologist in the morning. I don't what he says I am going the lake Wednesday for at least the rest of the week.Tight Lines

I use A Dobyns Champion XP DC 736C FH for Frogs & Flipping in heavy cover & the Champion XP DC735C FH for toads. I know you ask about a longer rod But these 2 get the job done

I usually get my reels from Digitaka in 3 to 4 days. I just got another 22 Bantam xg in 3 days, in fact I spooled it tonight with 20lb J-Fluoro Samura Hidden Concept. I like this line when bottom fishing.

What down time? the water temperature is 52 degrees & I have a pair of long Johns. If that don't do it get yourself a pair of pantyhose you will be surprised how much they will help. This is a great time of year to be on the lake, the fish have the feed bag on.

I am with Jrob78 on this. I have a couple of there rods & use them for 3/16 & 1/4 oz. Texas rigs, light spinnerbaits, & weightless plastics. As Jrob78 said the 744 is a better choice for a 1/2 oz. bait.

The Metanium, it has a core solid body.

This time of year try the north side it might be a little warmer. I have caught them in 1 to 3 feet of water.

I also think you might want to revisit that glass is more sensitive than graphite. I do not own a Shimano Zodias rod So I can not comment on them. The Rod that waymont referred to is a Dobyns 4 power rod of which I happen to own 12 which consists of SA 684 C, KN 610 4CB, XP 610 4C, XP 734 C, HP 744C, DRX 754C. The sensitivity is good on the above with the exception of the HP 744 C which is excellent & the DRX 754 C which is beyond belief. Bigassbass I have no doubt that your Zodias ros are sensitive but waymont was asking about a Dobyns Champion 704. There is 2 Choices for the 704 Glass or Graphite. I have XP 704 C because it's more versatile & have no problem with Squarebills. I did speak with Gary When I was looking for a couple of crank baits rods for small to medium baits & he recommend KN 610 4 CB & the XP 704 CB. I wanted a shorter rod & went with the Kaden's. waymont I hope this helps you.
