  1. If your having a lot of trouble with the lower weight frogs I would look for a new Rod. You are missing out on many good frogs. With the 4th of July sales going on now I would look into a rod. This is a excellent one https://dobynsrods.com/product/dc-736c-fh/ Now for a heavy frog, The River2SEA Matt Daddy is 3/4 oz & the Spro King Daddy is 1 oz.
  2. I like a graphite Med, Mod Heavy. As of lately I have been using a Dobyns Kaden KD 610 4 CB F/H.I bought it to use it for jerkbaits & it has proved to a excellent rod for that. I also have been using it for square bills & it has worked very well for that so much so that I ordered another one while the 15% 4th. of July sales are going on. This way I can have a Both baits rigged & ready to use right away.
  3. Yep, hanging a tackle shop is hard on the wallet!!
  4. It depends how heavy the cover is while frogging. You said light frogging so I'll go with the Dobyns Champion XP DC 735 C Full Handle $270 with a Shimano 2021 Scorpion DC XG about $215 at Digitaki or Asian Portal I have 2 of these set ups & if the cover is heavy I have 3 of these set ups Dobyns Champion XP DC 736 C Full Handle $270 same reels. The difference in the rods is the 735 is a 5 power & the 736 is a 6 power. I frog fish a lot & use assorted hollow body frogs with the DC 736 C for the better power to get a better hook set with the double hook. With baits like the Zoom Horny I use the 5 power. The reason for all those 5 rods is the different style of baits. This way I am not having to retie a different style on so often. One 6 power has a 3:16 No Bullfrog tied on all the time. If you are into frog fishing & fish in real heavy cover using that frog, you know why.
  5. I'll fish a 12 to 13 inch worm depending the brand on a Carolina Rig often.
  6. Yes! it would not have taken a minute to explain to him what you were doing & thank him.
  7. Wow I think I'll go get a beer. Then select a Dobyns Kaden Crankbait Rod Kd 610 CB or a KD 734 CB. As I have stated before I have had the KD 610 CB for over 3 months now & said how I like it with a jerk bait. I was out 4 early mornings this past weekend (0600 to1100) & played around with a couple of other baits too. A Bagley Balsa Squarebill & a Rebel Deep Wee R. The rod had no problem with either bait.On the rod I had a 16 Scorpion 71 spooled with Sunline Shooter Defier 11 lb. I did not do squat up shallow & stayed there to long. I moved to a ditch that runs up to 15 feet, tied on the Deep Wee R & caught 7 keepers (14 in ) I did not weigh them but they were all about 2 1/2 lbs. I do not have the KD 734 CB but I am thinking it's just a longer version of the 610. I am going to contact Dobyns rods later in the morning to find out. If I am right I will get 734 if not another 610 & another 16 Scorpion 71. I am sold on the 610. If you check around you can find them for 20% off from time to time.
  8. I adjust my hooks just a wee bit by taking 2 pair of needle nose pliers & bending them upward.
  9. Asian Portal has the Shimano Metanium 20 for $265.24. It has a solid core body plus the MGL spool. I just ordered another one. It's a excellent reel.
  10. I use the Kayden 610-4cb for jerk baits & find it to be right for the job. I find that I can work the bait better with that length rod & have not had a problem keeping pinned while landing the fish.. I have had the rod about 3 months but am retired & get to fish 3 to 4 times a week so It's been used often. I have caught several L/M in the 3 & 4 lb range with the biggest being 4lb 5 oz.. Caught a mudfish that was 5lb 2 oz. That fish fought hard & the rod handled it just fine. I am happy with the rod.
  11. Remember this a gator is always looking for lunch & is very fast. When you don't see it could laying on the bank somewhere. BE CAREFUL.
  12. I see where you mention the Champion XP series. I have several of this series & they are a excellent rods. I am using a Dobyns Extreme HP DX 746 C with a Metanium 2020 XG on it. I love this combo, it's well balanced & very sensitive.
  13. I am looking for a bait called the Bird. I had a Red Wing Blackbird & a Sparrow. I can't find them or remember where I bought them. Any help would be appreciated. Thank You! i
  14. I never pass up a ramp especially at night. If it has a light or two around it's mo better & I'll spend a little more time there. I have caught many 5 lb. + fish off them over the years. During the spawn make sure you check the shallow flats around them! Can you say Boogerman Buzzbait!
  15. I ordered today got right thru, 15% discount plus a 10% military discount.
  16. https://siebertoutdoors.com/products/ols/products/swim-jig I picked up the Shot Caller package 3/8 wire tied/shipped $25 85
  17. I have the Dobyns Champion XP DC 734 C F/H that I use for jig fishing. It gets the job done. T/W has a 15% discount going on right now, check it out.
  18. Since my heart attack my memory has slipped some & I think one of the following got it working again. I loosened either the spool tension knob or the drag so there was no tension & it worked.
  19. It also depends on the cover & angle of the sun.
  20. I would pick up one of these 3 reels (I have & use all 3) all 3 are JDM Shimano & all under $250. 2020 Metanium has the MGL spool, 21 Scorpion DC has the ID-5 braking system & the MGL spool, Scorpion 70/71. You stated your thinking of getting a Curado DC if that is the case I would go with the 21 Scorpion DC better braking system & has the MGL spool.
  21. My Frogging Rods Are the Champion XP DC F/H 736 C paired with Shimano Bantam MGL's XG's. ( Gear Ratio: 8.2:1, Aluminum Alloy Hagane Body, Hyper-tensile brass gears, VBS Centrifugal Cast Control System, SVS Infinity Brake System, Extra Efficient X Ship Gear System, Super Free Spool Design, Click set Dartainum Drag, 7 stainless steel ARB bearings, 84 mm Handle, Reel Wt. 6.8 oz.) These make excellent frogging combos. I do plan on checking out the 22 Bantams when they come out though.
  22. For cranking I use a Antras AR (5.8:1). When fishing I like to mix up the speed & depth. I use balsa crankbaits so I can stop the retrieve & the bait will float up which I hope will trigger a strike.
