I am headed down to Logan Martin this weekend to fish. Can anyone tell me what the conditions for this lake have been? Thanks

Pickwick Rising
We had a tourney out of Waterloo. 1st place was 18lbs, 2nd was 14 lbs, 3rd was 12.88 and I finished 4th with 12.50. Our tourney pays top 3 places if we have 18 boats or more. Day late and a dollar short is the story of my life. Had an awesome time on the water though. All of my fish came from a main river point from 4ft to 15ft of water. Water temp started about 57 and warmed up to about 61. The bite shut down after 10 oclock for me. That is about when the sun poked out and stayed.

Pickwick Rising
Water temp was 54. I didn't put in until 3:30 and I fished until about 7:00. The current was moving and the water appears to be down to about summer pool level. The water is still pretty stained. I managed only 3 fish on a shallow crankbait. Two largemouth went about 2 lbs each and one 3 lb small mouth. I am still learning Pickwick and it seems I learn something new each trip. I am fishing out of Waterloo again Saturday and I am pretty confident to bite is going to be GOOD. Probably going to fish 2nd creek and bear creek.

Pickwick Rising
I fished out of Waterloo saturday and I caught quite a few 1 to 2lbers. Most of them came from less than 4ft of water. I caught 1 fish from 20' of water. I caught some on square bills, texas rig plastics, and the deep fish came from caroline rig plastic. It was a struggle all day for me but we did manage some fish. I am fishing out of McFarland park this afternoon so we will see how that goes.

Looking to buy some rain gear
I purchased the Frogtoggs Firebelly series and it was $120 for the bibs and jacket. I fished in a downpour for 8 hours and never got wet. They are not anything like the old Frogtoggs.

another Line Question: braid vs fluor. Which one is more sensitive?
Well you must be a lot better fisherman than I am. I am not saying that is why I am missing the fish. I said I feel like that I miss fish because of the stretch. It is not a fact and Confidence is everything. I do not have the confidence in mono on a very long cast because of MY experiences missing fish. I could move in closer to accomodate the long cast problem (which I do).

another Line Question: braid vs fluor. Which one is more sensitive?
I have read numerous threads about what line for certain techniques and it seems everyone uses something different. I have been using mono line for the majority of my fishing. I really like the sensitivity of FC but I absolutley hate everything else about it. I like how mono cast and feels but I feel like I miss a ton of fish because it has so much stretch. I have braid on my spinning rig with a FC leader. I have yet to catch a fish with it (only used about 10 cast). My question: Is braid as sensitive as FC? Does it lose sensitivity if it is not tight?

Lews SS1?(baitcaster)
I have had them about 1 week. Fished about 8 hours using them and I caught some fish with them. I will be fishing 2 times this week with them as well. I use one of them for cranking and one for worms and jigs. They are real smooth, cast well, and fit in my hand perfect. If I have a chance to buy another reel I will purchase another one based off of one day of fishing if that tells you anything. Only time will tell how the long term durability will be.

Lews SS1?(baitcaster)
I purchased the $89 model and I like it so far. The only difference between it and the $129 model is the $129 has dual breaking system.

There was a tourney scheduled for Mcfarland today and if I am not mistaken it was moved to Waterloo due to Mcfarland being shut down.

Preferred plastic for a carolina rig?
Fluke Jr. and a speed craw.

Lews SS1?(baitcaster)
I purchased 2 the other day even though I have read some bad reviews on them. I had a buddy order me 2 at his cost and I could not pass them up. I purchased the 5.4:1 and the 6.4:1. I fished with them all day and they felt amazing. Of course this is the most expensive reel I have purchased. I am very thrifty. We will see how they hold up with the abuse they will take from me. I can tear up a steel ball with a needle.

Pickwick Rising
We fished out of Waterloo this morning and I have never in my life seen that many boats. I counted 25 boats just in second creek. We managed only 7 keeper fish but no big fish. I fished all depths and the biggest fish came from 19' of water. The water temp started at 49 this morning and it was 53 when I left at 2:15.

What will happen to the fishing when they suck the water back down?

Frogg Toggz Firebelly suit
I purchased the Frogg Toggz Firebelly rain suit and bibs after reading the review from bassmasters a few months back. I purchased the entire suit for around $120.00. This weekend I fished a tournament from 6 am until 3 pm. The rain started at 7:30 and it rained the entire day. It was a downpour for the majority of the time. At the end of the day the only thing on me that was wet was my feet (wrong boots as I was leaving at 4:30 am). If you are looking for a good rain suit on budget I would recommend this suit to anyone.

Big Bite Bait Co
I ended up just ordering a few packs of everything in my favorite colors from tackle warehouse. It all should be here next week and maybe all of our snow would be gone.

Good deal @ Dick's
I went to the Dicks Sporting Goods store today and racked up on xcalibur rattle traps, rage tail plastics, rapala crankbaits, and some stanley finese jigs. I also ended up with 7 packs of yum dingers and 2 packs of GYCB senkos. I have a dining room table full of stuff for about $115.

rain suit
I purchased a new suit a few weeks ago. I purchased the FroggToggs Firebelly series. $59.00 for the tops and $59.00 for the bibs. I have been pleased so far. We got 8" of snow in North Alabama this week and I have played with my little girl for hours laying in snow and everything else and have not got wet or cold. I only had 1 normal layer underneath. I can't wait to see how they hold up to downpour.

Scouting or learning the lake better
Thank you for the in depth reply. That is the information I was wanting. I have never thought about approaching a lake that way.
