Best of the Year So Far (recaught)
KU, Nice fish. I keep hoping that I can catch the one I caught last week again. This time I will have a scale. It's killing me to not know what she weighed.
-
What reel are you using for flipping?
I too use the daiwa viento.

Great time of year to get the kids hooked up!!!
That's awesome!! I will have to try that line on my kids and see what kind of response it brings out. Let's see..."How many game cubes can I buy with that?" Is probably what I'll here.

Great time of year to get the kids hooked up!!!
And lastly here is my 8 year old with his "pig" 4lb 4oz. He is just a little excited. He was on them, caught about 7 in 20 minutes.

Great time of year to get the kids hooked up!!!
Here is my 9 year old with her 3 lb 2 oz. It is good thing I had the scale, so she could hold it for the camera. Having your 9 year old daughter catch a 3+ bass and call your mother in law to tell her about the "pig" she caught!! "Grandma.. I caught a PIG!!!" Priceless!!!

Great time of year to get the kids hooked up!!!
I love this time of year. Bass are biting good and they are fat to boot. Took the kids out both Saturday and Sunday. This is a great time of year to get them used to T-rigging worms and building confidence, all while catching great fish. All three kids had new PB's. I'll apologize in advance for the poor quality of the pics off my camera phone. I dusted off the lenz on the second day. Here is my 6 year old with his 3 lb 7 0z. All fish were caught on zoom z-nails in junebug.

my best iowa river bass
Great job! What Iowa river were you on?

I WAS WRONG!!!
Dodgeguy, That's a huge statistic. Even if there is some imbalance in the records or fishing, the number alone says something. I'm surprised because you have been a big supporter of braid.... thanks for the honesty! What are you trying to do to me dodge? You just got me converted over to sufix braid, now your pushing something else..well I ought to.... I do like the sufix braid much better than the power pro, hands down. The sufix elite... well it has more line memory than I had hoped for but, it is strong.

State Your RAIN GEAR 101
For the summer I love the frog toggs, light weight and waterproof. Also works well for golfing. For colder weather. I use my columbia hunting gear. It will keep you warm and dry. I have had it 8 plus years and it still looks new.

Things are Heating Up in Iowa
Great fish. Things are really starting to go out here in the midwest. The next 2-4 weeks should be really great. I hoping I can pick up a new PB.

4-21...New PB!!!
good work and nice fish. Things are really starting to click out are way. I just wish it would quit raining now.

Ok, here's the situation........
I would go to the coves in the northern end. I think the fish will be holding out at the deeper areas of the flats 5-10 ft of water, staging to come shallow. If that prdeicted weather pattern holds out, I don't think the fish will be in shallow until mid to late afternoon. In the Morning I would go to drops just out from the flats or deeper areas of the flats and work a c-rig, with lizard, creature or a fluke type baits in dark colors or chartruese and cranks as well. I would move shallower in the afternoon as I think the fish will too. I would use t-rigged plastic as described above or jig. Good luck

Todays catch.
I could go for one like that. Nice catch!!!

Finally a good fish....for me
Well up here in SE South Dakota and NE Nebraska we have had a pretty cold spring. We had a nice warm up about 3 weeks ago but, it followed with a 2 week cold snap. This week it warmed up again so I snuck out yesterday afternoon for about a half hour to a little 15 acre city lake. They have been stocking this lake with trout, twice a year for the last 7 years, so I know there have to be some big fish in it. Anyway it was about 68 degrees and windy 20-35mph out of the southeast. I go down to the northwest corner, thinking they should be down to this end due to warmer water and the wind blowing that way. I start throwing a jig mainly because I want something heavy to be able to cast into the wind. After 15 minutes of picking moss and weeds off the jig I decide to t-rig a yamamoto kreature bait with a 1/4 oz bullet weight. After about 10 more minutes of nothing and difficult casting, I tell myself," one more cast". I wait for the wind to slow a little and then put out a good cast. I wait for the bait to settle, only in about 5 foot of water. I feel the line jump and feel the pull, so I reel down and set the hook. I'm using 30lb suffix braid on medium power rod. When I set the hook, it feels like I am on a log or something, no give, so I reel down a little more and rear back once more and I can feel the log moving to the right and I now feel the head shake. It makes a run to the right staying down, I instantly think I have big pike on due to the way it is bulldoggin me. After about 30 seconds it comes halfway out of the water and I see its huge mouth. It shakes its head a few more times then I bring her to shore. No scale or tape. I do the fishing pole measure at approx 21 inches but, this fish is fat and full of eggs. I take a quick phone photo and put her back in the water. I like to think she was almost 6 lbs but, more than likely she was close to 5. Anyway I was stoked, she is definitley the biggest bass I have caught. Maybe I can catch her again and weigh her.

Humminbird sonar DualBeam or QuadraBeam?
I would spend the extra $25 and get the quadrabeam. It will allow you to see more water and to pinpoint your targets quicker. See here for better explanation: http://www.humminbird.com/productLines_wide.asp?id=794 I have the 767 combo. If you are able I would recommend the 787c2 with color for about $100 more. It will give you color, which I thought was overpriced, but now I wish I would have gotten it. Or if you want better yet get the 797c2. see here: http://www.fishfinder-store.com/hu700sefifi.html Or if you want the cats bottom and never look back, get the 997c. I wish I would have. http://www.humminbird.com/products.asp?ID=964 You'll like any of them but, If your like me, you won't be able to go out on the water without thinking, " I sure wish I had that side imaging unit so I could really see what is down there" Good luck. First South Dakota Fish
Which dam were you fishing at?
-
What knots do you use?
I use the palomar to tie on all baits or hooks and the uni knot for line to line.
-
Ha ! I did catch the lake record Smallie !!!
Yes they do look like the same fish, because they both look like they have been "photo-shopped" ;) Just kidding!! Great fish. I can't wait to get out this year. Just think, in a couple of more weeks the ice will be gone.
-
Vertical lures
I have some. I like the way they fish, and catch but, I do have a little problem tying that knot. I am just not that great at tying knots. I use nothing but the palomar for everything else. I like the way you can fish it around the rocks. I find you have to retie less often. Have not lost one yet.
