Alex led me to this:
Bass see Chartruese as a white. We have 3 color receptors. Bass have 2, they see colors differently than us.

Alex led me to this:
So you normally hold a plastic to the shank of the hook and you see how and where the hook will pop out of the bait. Pop the hook out 1/16" of an inch or so in front of where you normally would. A 1/15" will cause wildfires and I don't want to even think about the horrors that will arise if you are only 1/17" short. I digress lol... but when you hook it a little short of "normal" the bait sort of bends down sort of creating a cup. That cup is what catches the water for the glide (in part). Save this in case your New Year's is as hoppin' as mine will be.

I didn't really notice if the longer ones drifted further. The plastic is sort of along for the ride. Just have to have the flat side down and slightly "short thread" it on the head.

I get it now
If you're on shore or fishing shallow off a boat it works great (regardless of electronics). Deeper water makes it a bit more difficult with electronics. It can still be done but it's a bit more guesswork regarding depth (how long do you let it sink).

How moderate do you like your jig rod?
Mod fast for me. Braid or Fluorocarbon when you set the hook you're moving the rod tip what, 10ft in some cases. A faster rod isn't just poking a hole with the hook tip it's blasting one or tearing a big hole. The Hook can fall out easier in a fight. A slower rod is still moving 10ft of line but not doing the same sort of impact. That's what I found at least.

Rule of thumb with them is lighter head, better drift. I love them up here for post spawn fish

daiwa zillion rods 2024
They definitely have a great reputation for those. I have a 68Mxf St Croix Legend Xtreme for those jerkbaits. I love that rod.

daiwa zillion rods 2024
Ehhhh I wouldn't do jerkbaits unless you're talking about Pointer 128 type. Handle would be kinda long too. Now I will suggest the Evergreen Combat Stick 72MHmf as a rod that could do what you're asking about. I know the specs are similar but you have to fish it to believe it. It'll do Vision 110s up to Shower Blows 125s pretty well.

Favorite jig trailers?
Geecrack Bellows Craw

Orvis Pro Bibs
Orvis doesn't make junk is about all i got for you. For the price they're going for and the reviews they get, seems like a good buy.

daiwa zillion rods 2024
I have the 75 MHHf. Pretty cool rod once I figured it out. It's all graphite.

St Croix Black Bass rods
It's basically the old MOJO Bass with lesser trim and slightly lesser guides. Should "fish" just like a MOJO

How much better can reels get?
This reel is 20 years old and was $200... 140yds of 12lb. 100yds of 16lb 7.4 ounces 7 bearings Multi composite disc drag. Ti Nitride line guide Now look at a Curado M from today. I would call that a benchmark reel. The reel above is the same with more line capacity. I'd say we've been on a plateau with reels for a while. Except maybe the higher end DC reels not much has changed for a while.

Orochi XX going away?
I agree something else will fill the $300 hole in the line up

Productive Baits 2024 Edition
Beast Coast OW Sniper jig Zoom Speedcraw Raid Osakana Slide Killed it this year for me

Do winter rules apply everywhere?
I find speed cranking on Champlain in February to be exceptionally fruitless. Lots of broken baits from hitting the ice.

Get the four of the same reel, or mix it up?
I'm going to be Mr Pragmatic Debbie Downer... stick with the SLX and Zillions. I've fished a lot of tournaments and the ratio of boost in performance over what you have/know vs the money spent isn't great. Rods? Totally different beast, go nuts with what suits your needs and desires but reels I'd be perfectly fine running SLX and zillions, Stradics and Kages. Save money for fees, line, terminal and (oddly my favorite) storage that works for you.

Duo Realis jerkbaits
They are sort of a hybrid of a rerange and pointer 100 action-wise. Definitely nice baits.

Tokyo Rig?
Great for flipping in thick stuff with a soft bottom.

Underspins : Retrieval Methods and Trailers
For the 40ft situation mentioned. Heavier head and roll on the bottom

I believe it's a savage gear

Wake bait suggestions
Deos Buzzjet or Black Dog Gill first. I like the Spro Rats too but they are a bit larger than what you asked about.

Megabass P5 The-Xbites Applications
Lighter than 1/2oz footballs? 873 you have is a great compliment to it.

Anyone one else have this line preference?
I like 15-20 YZH Or 65lb braid to a long leader
