The Tatula is a great rod. Skip the slx dc (it's DC4 brake isn't great compared to the DC5 on the Metanium and Scorpion). Get a Cuardo K and slap it on. If you're open to used a Shimano Scorpion DC 17 is $160-190 used. I have 4 and love them (from a Daiwa guy).

Having felt the same way and done it... You're better off just cleaning them real well and running them stock. Money saved for more exciting things. Maybe a handle length change if anything.
