  1. A 5' ugly stick combo, I was probably 12 when I got it for christmas from my step-grandfather. He got me into fishing, and then I got my dad into it. Now I would consider myself a mini-expert. The power of a gift.
  2. Well first off let me say, I have never used my Fuego before for any moving style baits, mainly jigs and bigger t-rigs. But I decided to use it for some spinnerbaits because I didn't want to use my other rods for it, but man it felt really underpowered. I'm starting to think it may have something to do with how I cleaned it, I did like I do to every reel I have, strip, clean, and relube. It's smoooth as all heck, but even with a regular spinnerbait (1/4 oz, 1 willow, 1 tiny colorado) it just felt underpowered on the retrieve. I thought it was pulling drag but my drag was set fine, with a good amount of pressure to pull some out. Or maybe its the rod and reel? Im using a 6'8" MH/XF with 17# Sufix Seige, but I dont think that is the culprit, maybe, but I dont know for sure. Any thoughts guys? It makes me want to not use reaction baits on my favorite reel.
  3. Mmmmmm. So good. I think ill have to hit all of the ones in the area, because who wants just one taco?
  4. Glad you've found a rod you enjoy at a price point that is easier on the wallet. I personally will probably never buy anything more than a Powell because I couldn't imagine a need for anything better , well, except for a custom, but I'd only get one of those for sentimental value.
  5. If you're looking for external mag brake reels around the same price, look at the Daiwa Lexa. I know the price is similar and the few people I have talked to who have them like them alot. Its supposedly capable of casting out the light stuff too. Im not sure if they're widely available yet, but check them out at TW.
  6. I know there was some talk on here when the line first came out, but nothing as of late. Anyways, my Dick's had spools on sale for like 2 bucks and change, so I picked up some 6# for small jerkbaits, topwaters, and maybe some light plastics. Just from playing with it I got the impression of very little memory, and it feels like silk! But has anybody used it, and can account for any strength or problems? So far I have high hope considering I haven't ever been a P-line fan after trying CXX numerous times (hated it), and their pure fluorocarbon (average at best).
  7. Depends on what you're using it for, but their is not much a 50E cant even handle. Unless you need the line capacity (You probably dont for bass), the 50E is just better IMO. Edit: Im a Daiwa Man myself, but those 50e's have a place in my heart.
  8. Holy crap I want that workaholics bear outfit. That's one of my shows LOL
  9. I use straight braid for this application, the sheer strength is a plus and the fact that it slices through vegetation is a plus. Pair it with a heavy rod, and a high IPT reel, and you've got yourself a nice flipping/pitching stick. As far as a nice rod for under 2 bones, take a strong look at both the Powell Max and Endurance. They're essentially the same, but the endurance has a size smaller guides for a kinda micro advantage, but they're not micros. Other than that, the only difference is color. Check out my review I posted of Powell rods here, use the search function. IMO, they are the VERY best out there for under $200, and some above.
  10. Yep, it's my dedicated fluke set-up, but I also use it for light t-rigs. Depending on your budget I HIGHLY recommend a Powell 702C. If you do a google search for Powell Max Review you'll find a lengthy on I posted a while back.
  11. What Im using for single weightless flukes is a Powell 682C 6'8" M/XF (Disc, but can be found in 7') Its short enough that the tip doesn't slap the water when working a fluke, but long enough and stout enough to hook up with the fish. I've found that the XF tip is really nice for flukes, because you can work them better, get a good hookset with the single hook, and the accuracy of the casting is pinpoint, plus it loads up better with weightless flukes. However, I dont think the same rod would be an ideal double fluke rod. You're essentially doubling the weight of your presentation and a M would be slightly underpowered for that, however it can still be done. To the other poster asking about senkos, it works okay for smaller ones (weightless), like the little 4 inchers. Again, I think a MH would be better for stickbaits. Also, before you get caught up in a fluke rod, make sure you have a reel capable of casting weightless flukes. Sure it can be done with any reel, bit if you're going for a dedicated fluke setup I would look for higher end reel with a lighter spool for ease of castability
  12. Are you talking just one fluke, or a double fluke rig? Im also assuming we're talking standard super-flukes (~5") What type of cover are you fishing in? Both will shine in different ways, and flukes are my favorite way to fish, so I can probably help you out.
  13. We're actually not allowed to have a tip jar, ive suggested that before. Go figure. Its either they fill in a tip on the receipt, or cash. I actually made a dollar today in tips, I was happy so I could get a soda from the back
  14. I kinda wish more people tipped the insiders at pizza places as well. Especially on Fridays when they can see us working our butts off. We do most of the work, the drivers only deliver them. We do make more than the drivers for base pay, but not much. On the inside we make 7.25, and drivers make like 6.10 on the road. Im not saying we need 5$ tips for carryout, but a dollar here and there for soda's really does brighten my day.
  15. I once had a driver tell me a story about when he delivered, it was a 30 something dollar order, and when he asked if there was a tip the lady yelled I can't afford a tip, I'm on welfare! Well then, you probably shouldn't order pizza.
  16. What makes the Pixies special to me is that it is a true finesse reel, nothing more. Its not a 50E where it can cast light baits respecfully, but isn't great for light stuff. It weighs so little and is so small, you'll definitely feel like its not there, and that will give a smidge more feel, but how it truly shines as a finesse reel is the spool. Its really lightweight, so casting the smallest of lures isn't a hassle, and you will have no need for anymore line than it holds. More line is just going to weigh down the overall spool weight. I'm also partial to Daiwa's Magforce brakes for lighter stuff.
  17. Any quality reel (100 or higher) will last just fine with proper maintenance.
  18. IBTL. This gets argued over on a weekly basis, and always ends up being locked. Use the Search Function
  19. I have too many packs of blue craw, they're by far my favorite color... In anything.
  20. Thanks for all the replies guys, I actually got off of work early-ish today around 7:30, and went out my old man to for an hour of tossing, but we catch anything. Guess the bass arent shallow quite yet. Either way it was nice to get away for a little bit, considering my busy arse schedule, and getting ready for college stuff. Woo! And to only add to my stress, I got my debit card info stolen at a Sunglasses Hut, and got rung for like $200 I dont have, so I get to deal with no card for a week, and then filing claims, etc. Man, I sure could go for some vacation about now.
  21. Regardless of referees, the Cowboys will prevail this year.
  22. All of the Pixy's are great reels, but I think their are small difference between the colors (year models). But anyways, they are nothing near a collectors item, people love those things and sn@tch em' up to use em. You can probably find more information about them over at Tackle Tour's blog,
  23. Man, I hate this time of year, no time for myself, or fishing for that matter. School, Lacrosse, work, and the girlfriend all consume my time. HOLY HALIBUT. I just want to hibernate for like, a week, and working till 11 almost everyday doesn't help. Man i'm drained, I just cant wait for next semester, I get to leave school halfway through the day for CO-OP, aka, i get to go home and sleep until I have to work. And the worst part is I havent been out fishing in a month, and the fall bite has been HOT according to my dad.
  24. Yup. They need to get it together, especially considering my girlfriends birthday present was a promise to go a caps game, And I love watching hockey, C A P S LETS GO CAPS!!!.... and nhl...
  25. Last time I went to a Richmond race, we were told we couldn't bring in coolers, so this must be something new, then again, the last time I went was a few years back. And I dont remember where we went for a huge college lacrosse tournament, but IIRC it was 5 bucks for a 16 oz cup.
